And don't overtighten the bolts because half the housing is plastic.  The official service manual has the wrong torque settings

Though TBH not sure I'll get torque wrench in there without removing all hoses and pulling lot out. 10Nm sound about hand tight anyway.

Just been looking at a naked 2008 FZ6 S2 up for sale near me. Got a couple of issues, one of which is electrics: right hand indicators don't work - front and back, including light on clocks, and when hazard switch is on. Left hand indicators are fine though. Headlight is apparently intermittently not working too. Sidelights fine, and dipped/main beam were fine when I checked bike out.


I'm figuring that since right indicators aren't working with either hazard lights switch on main turning switch, it's not likely to be the switchgear itself and def not bulbs. Since it affects front/back and on clocks, leads me to suspect something more in depth - loom, clocks, etc. No obvious wear on exposed loom though.



Any thoughts on what is likely to be culprit here? Any common electrical faults known on FZ6's?
What do you think? I'm currently getting cold feet and will probably walk away from it unless I can pin it to a common/simply cause.

Sorry to bring back up this thread, but how have you found the longevity of these lights?

I had some fitted for just over a year now, same as tommyardin and slappy, much lower down mounted on top of the standard Yammy low engine crash bars. In that time, I've had no end of hassle with the bolt that goes through the supplied mounts and threads on the the alu body of the lights giving up leaving me with spinning lights that just fling to side to light up hedge row... Tried lock tight and all sorts, but ultimately the threads on the light bodies are shite. Swapped with longer bolts now with a nut on inside - bit of faff to tighten up, but held much better.

I've also had hassle with water ingress into the lenses, with moisture on the inside taking ages to dry out. Have to pop them open to clean and dry them out.

Mine also came with a handle bar mounted switch, and loom with relay. The switch has recently given up ghost, only turning them on if the rocker is in some half way state, where it never stays whilst riding.

They also have some weird flashing mode that you can activate by flicking them on and off quickly. But this always seems to get activated when you don't want it. Especially when the above switch was playing up and power was being cut intermittently.

I have to agree to think they do help with filtering, especially through winter and dusk/dark conditions. Definitely get the impression of more people noticing me, though these things are always hard to confirm, it could just be my perception. Now I'm in two minds as to bin them, try bypassing switch and hooking relay to side lights instead, or splashing out on new, better ones.

Got one spare with a couple of chunks broken off. Just on horizontal bit, still intact enough to fill space and hold up. Will just gave couple of gaps where it meets tank. You can have it for nowt to get you by if you like.

Why not just fit FZS600 Foxeye / FZS1000 mirrors? Which have a much longer stem to give you decent visibility behind, and they quickly fold in - perfect for tight filtering and squeezing into motorcycle bays chock full of scooters. Or quickly pop back out when used as whiskers on tight gaps... ;-)

Just avoid the pattern one - they invariable don't fold! Albeit £80 each if you buy new!!!

Interesting, when I last put a Roadtec 01 on my Fazer, I was told there was no option of 110/70 for the front. Went for the M7RR on front instead. Not ideal to go for mismatched, but the pair have performed well nonetheless. So, if this is now an option, that's good to know.

For me the DRZ and FZS1000 are out because of ULEZ - need something 2007 or later. FZ1 is tempting, but economy for daily commuter and insurance quotes are £1k+ in London.
VFR could be option but would be later VTEC one.

I had to look at my own picture to see what you were talking about. I think for that to happen the upper mount would need to bend but also bend on the same axis but it is mounted on the opsite axis so wont bend like that --------- or something.
For me its not big spills I am protecting against but just stupid drops by myself really - rolled off the side stand last year as I did not realise how steep the hill was but luckily it tipped over on ME and a grass bank. So just stupid things like that.   

Got them on mine, and have tested them, several times. Had a few spills, had bike on side, smashed fairing lights, bent bars scraped tank. But bars only bent a little and engine always been grand to ride home. Even after binning it on track in France and riding back to London. They work great at protecting the engine and gear/rear brake levers.
 


Each time, just bent them back with rubber mallet and loosened them off to rotate them back. Did replace them once, as they had been indented quite a bit and lost all the paint - so just looked a bit shabby.

Yeah, attempted this myself a couple of months ago. Completely rounded three of the bolts. Gave up in end, garage I took it to, gave a very long intake of breath too.... Got a new wheel for £25 - cheaper than labour mucking around with old seized disc and wheel. Personally - I'd just take it to a garage to begin with...

As for choice of disc, Brembo rear discs are about £80 - got mine from Demon Tweeks.

Gerbing do make a pair of heated liners but not battery powered.Being a liner they're not waterproof and are a touch short if £80. Gerbing seem to be the most reliable and troublefree manufacturer of heated gloves/clothing. Pity it's so expensive,but I suppose "get what you pay for" springs to mind.

I've been using their XR12 gloves for about 5 years. Reliable? -ish. I've been through a few pairs - electrical connection issues, cutting out etc. BUT Gerbing's offer a lifetime warranty on the electric side, no questions, they turned them around in couple of days. Each new pair has been getting better, design improved and lasting longer though. Current pair is first to do two winters and holding up well this winter too, so fingers crossed. Do any of the other manufactures offer a lifetime warranty? I mean seriously at this rate I'll never be buying winter gloves again, as electrics pack up long before the wear out!


I just plug them into bike; cable tied controller to jacket, threaded cabling down sleeves etc. Works fine, only about 30 seconds extra faff to plug stuff in. They do however have a pocket on gauntlet to accommodate a battery pack. About an extra £80-90 last time I checked though.

Did you try rerouting them? Many I have seen are twisted all over the place, making them appear shorter than they are

Nah, just quickly patched it up in 15 mins yesterday morning between getting kids ready for school and zooming off for work! But yeah, next time tank is off I'll take a peek as see how they're routed. Either way, bike is running really well now huge difference, so smooth and more ummph now, makes me believe they had been slowly deteriorating for a while.

Cool, have ordered straight ones. Will see how I get on later this week once they turn up.
