Got a FZS600 Foxeye Fairing in deep purply metalicy bluey colour. Smashed on left side, two largeish chunks come off below mirror. Pretty shagged TBH.

However, if anyone reckons they can make use of it, fancy having a bash at repairing it, or just want something to practice on, you're more than welcome to take it away. Don't want any money for it. Just wanted to see if anyone would find a use for it before I fling it in the bin.

Here's a couple of pics, one whilst it was in situ (I do have the missing piece). And one mid swapping over a new fairing.

The left hand fairing in that last picture (obviously). And just fairing itself going up for grabs.

FZS600 Fazer / Fork service - part required
« on: 25 September 2014, 12:41:57 pm »

I'd like to give the forks on my Fazer a bit of a service. Although they don't feel particularly bad or have leaky seals, they're never been done whilst I've had bike (done 15K in last 2 years) and I've got no record of them ever having been done (bike now has 28K). There's is a spot of suffice corrosion on one under the dust cap - could just be spring clip though. Either figured it's probably high time to freshen them up.

So found the guide below:http://fazerowners.yuku.com/topic/23188/HOWTO-Forks-Seals-Bushes-and-Oil#.VCK-a5RdX2o
But know a local and reputable bike mech just starting out with his own worshop whose quote me £60 labour. Just need to source parts.
He's recommended I stick with OEM oil seals. Are NOK seals just as good / any different?
I'd like to sort out shopping list of the other stuff required for the job. Should I go OEM for the other parts, or are they less critical?

2x Yammy oil seals, 4EB231450100.
2x Yammy washer oil seals, 36Y231461000 - do I need this too?
2x Yammy bushes, 4FM231254000. Recommended, yes? This the right part?
2x sprint clips, 26H231560000. Unbranded good enough here?
2x Yammy dust seals, 4EB231440000. I can only find unbranded ones in a kit with seals.
15W fork oil. any tips on what brand, or just buy cheapest?

Anything else I need?

Been hunting down parts on this AJ Sutton page:-

For Sale & Wanted / FZS600 Foxeye fibreglass fairing /nose cowling
« on: 04 September 2014, 02:21:03 pm »
I bought this fibreglass foxeye fairing last year, but never got round to getting it sprayed and fitted. No longer require it now.

It's not genuine, it's unpainted, just smooth white gelcoat finish. I've fitted it on bike and confirmed it's a good fit. Only big difference from genuine fairing is it's missing lugs to secure infils at sides (not crucial, as other bolts hold th fine). Lights, screen and indicators all fit perfectly.

I paid about £150 delivered from this ebay store However, I'll accept £100 + postage ('ll get a courier quote on demand). I'm based in East London, happy with collection or could drop off nearby for bit of petrol money.

Having a bit of a clear out:-

One original chain guard off a 2003 FZS600. Good nick.
SOLD

One original rear brake caliper off 2003 FZS600. Seized, appears to need new seals. Bit scruffy, lost a little paint. Includes set of almost new pads.
£30

One original rear brake tension bar off 2003 FZS600. Has a little corrosion under paint, but would be fine after quick sand a spray with hammerright.
£5

One rear brake mount off a Gen 1 Fazer 1000. Good nick.
£10

Doubt postage will be much for these, certainly a fiver or less. Or can meetup around London/Essex area.

FZS600 Fazer / Replacing/Flushing Coolant.
« on: 16 June 2014, 10:08:55 am »
Whilst giving bike a service and good once over at weekend I noticed the coolant levels are a bit low, only just covering bottom of overflow tank. The Haynes book reckons that it should be replaced every two years and I have no record or it having ever being replaced (and previous owner was a bit anal in retaining receipts for everything). So figured I just flush it and refresh the lot - it looks a fairly straight forward job according to the Haynes book.

So couple of questions:

Currently there seems to be the orange coolant in there. I have a bottle of pink OAT coolant, am I right in saying that since they're both OAT, it should alright to mix them, to top it up and tie me over for few days?

The book says I should replace the drain plug seals/washers. Where can I get some of these? Or what size of generic copper washers should I get? After a search on here it seems most just reuse the old one, but surely they're only pennies and it would be better to replace.

As for de-ionised water to mix with coolant concentrate, is water from the household dehumidifier OK?

Where's good for cheap Radflush and Coolant? Halfords, supermarche, t'interweb?

FZS600 Fazer / Yearly service & oil change newbie questions.
« on: 10 June 2014, 01:12:06 pm »
Bike is due it's yearly service & MOT, however this year I want to have a go doing the service all myself, because it's high tie I did and I'm skint.

Now, regarding the oil change, as I've never done one before:
Oil filter, much in them? Should I just go for cheapest? Or worth paying a couple quid more for genuine, K&N etc?
So I understand I need a new sump plug washer, anyone bother with magnetic plug or are they just a gimmick?
I've heard getting old filter off can be a ball ache, any tips? What tool do I need (give me a link to buy one)? What about fitting new one, copper grease to aid future removal?

Air filter should be straight forward enough. My brakes have all had new pads recently. Checked carb balance earlier in year and was fine. Will inspect plugs. Will grease levers, pegs and stands. Fork seals aren't leaking, spot of pitting, but high up out the way. Chain/sprocket look cool, no hooked teeth, not slack, perhaps a bit gunked up but should be ok.

What else do I need to do?

So, managed to blag a Fazer Thou blue spot rear brake caliper (along with pads, hose, mounting bracket, master cylinder and reservoir).  I've got a funny brake bleeding tube with ball bearing, but I've not actually done brakes before. Anyone local up for a bit of fettling and helping me fit it? (in exchange for some beers of course).

General / Foc'n'ell! The maddest Fazer I've seen yet.
« on: 02 June 2014, 09:27:30 pm »
Definitely the maddest Fazer I've ever seen, over on Ebay Germany.

59
Just blagged a nice Fazer Thou rear blue spot brake for my 600. I fancy swapping on the matching torsion bar at same time. I know the 600 one will fit, but the Thunderace one looks so much better... :)

Before I go grab one off ebay, does anyone have one going spare they'd like to flog cheap?

FZS600 Fazer / Seized rear brake callipers
« on: 20 May 2014, 03:39:54 pm »
Finally caught the Fazer 600 sticky rear brake lurgy. Popped in to garage for new brake pads on back and they had a right job getting pistons apart to accommodate new pads.

They don't seem massively bad, can't hear them scraping when I push bike about and they do give me some stopping power.  MOT is due in July, how bad do they have to be to fail it?

Garage quoted between £60-75 labour + dust seals etc, to clean them thoroughly and sort them out. Worth doing, or I should be looking out for a FZS1000 or XJS1300 calliper to slap on?

And I should add, although a bit handy on the mech side, I've never touched brakes before, so not really confident working on them yet.

FZS600 Fazer / Whining sounds from front end once over 25mph
« on: 02 May 2014, 11:16:55 am »
This last couple of days, I've noticed a whining, whistling sound from front end, once I get above 25-30mph ish. What do you reckon, wheel bearings? Crud in brakes?

Front pads were new around Jan/Feb ish. New Speedo thingy was fitted then too, as old one broke. Front tyre was new about 2 months ago. If I lift front up, the wheel does seem to have some resistance when turned, as though it's catching/rubbing on something.
When I turn slowly on a tight corner (out of sharp junction for instance) the front end does feel a bit notchy, although it's always felt like this as long as I remember.

What do you reckon?

So, someone likes their Marvel comics... You'll either love or hate this bike.

FZS600 Fazer / Horn dying...
« on: 08 April 2014, 01:57:03 pm »
Think my horn is on the way out, now not very loud and makes a dull parping sound. I've obviously warn it out honking at all the idiots out on the London roads....

Are there any common faults that are easy to remedy?
Anyone got a spare?
Are there any good upgrade recommendations (that don't cost the earth)?

I picked up these in a hurry when I first started riding, however I they're a bit big for me and come to prefer a track style fitting trousers. Been sat in wardrobe unused for ages now, so time for a clear out. Still in perfect condition, no scuffs, scrapes, rips or tears, zips all good, lining in perfect condition too. They have knee armour and slots for optional hip armour.

Size: UK 32. 32" waist, inside like is about 31", so good for the tall. They have Velcro pulls on the sides of the hips to give a bit of adjustment. Would suit between a 32-34" waist fine. They're a fairly straight, over boot cut. Two zip up pockets (no holes in bottoms of these) and two zips at the cuff to go aid pulling over boots.

Due to condition, I'm looking for £75.
Can meet up round London, East / Essex Border. Otherwise I don't mind posting (let me know and I'll get a quote).

FZS600 Fazer / Balancing Carbs - Where are the adjustment screws?!
« on: 17 March 2014, 08:41:58 am »
So, treated myself to a Morgan CarbTune Pro thingamajig. Gave it a whirl on my wife's ZZR which was well out of balance. All hunky dory, quick smooch online and through the Haynes manual, all rather straight forward, once I took the fairing off, took tank off and took air box off. :)

Anyway, onto my Fazer, figured I'd give it a quick balance as it hadn't been done since downpipes went on. Got tank off, located vacuum hose covers and removed, hooked up carb tune and mini aux fuel tank. But where are the bloody adjustment screws!? As it happens the bike was pretty much still in balance anyway, and idle speed was fine, so not too worried, but I was really struggling to locate the adjustment screws.

The Haynes manual just has a basic line drawing. Think I found the centre one between carbs 2 & 3. But couldn't spot the too side ones between 1 & 2 and 3 & 4. Figured you have to move the bar with coils on out of the way? Did unbolt it, but it didn't really want to move anyway as the end coils were in the way of the brackets.

Couldn't help but notice a new fazer rider parking regularly near where I work this last couple of weeks. Little red'n'white FZS600 box eye on Bermondsey St. Curious if you are indeed a Foccer, or not and possibly need assimilating into the fold.

FZS600 Fazer / Slight wobble from front end
« on: 07 January 2014, 02:04:02 pm »
I've noticed a tiny bit of wobble from front end through the bars, every now and again over this last few weeks. Certainly don't notice it all the time and it's not a visible wobble. Usually notice it if I take one hand off the bars (to wipe visor etc), I can feel a slight wobble in hand on bars, even when I grip them very lightly. I've also noticed from the front wheel being a spot twitchy when pulling a sharp turn at low speed e.g. pulling into a tight junction, though I can't be certain if that's new.

Have checked tyre pressures and noticed it when carrying same weight in top box as I usually do, and both with full/empty tank. Front tyre went on over a year ago.

Any thoughts? Wheel bearings or something like that? Tyre out of balance? Bike has been down a couple of times, but that was July and September, fairly sure this has appeared since. Anything straight forward I can check?

Just replaced the downpipes on my Fazer 600. Thought I'd stick the old pipes on here in case someone feels they could repair them and get some more life out of them.

They're fine at the front, but underneath around the 4-into-1 they've corroded a lot and have a number of small holes. If you reckon you can make use of them, make me an offer. Don't mind posting them if needed.

FZS600 Fazer / Fitting new downpipes
« on: 23 October 2013, 01:45:29 pm »
So, just ordered a nice Motad/Venom downpipes/can system for the Fazer. Any tips for fitting?

Had a gander at the article on here, which was handy, but all the photos weren't working. Started dousing the header bolts in WD40 and penetrative spray, which I'll keep doing until weekend when I fit them.  Really don't want bolts snapping, but they still look in pretty good nick visually. Hoping previously ACF50 treatment is going to pay off. Anything else I should know?

FZS600 Fazer / Knock off fairings on ebay - any good?
« on: 18 October 2013, 11:52:29 am »
Does anyone have any experience with the knock off fairing copies on ebay? Specifically looking at a GRP one from Poland here.

Any good? Figured I'd probably be spending almost as much on getting current fairing repaired.

General / Raa! Insurance Payout Sorted.
« on: 18 October 2013, 09:34:10 am »
Nice big insurance payout cheque arrived in post yesterday. Sorted. Bike not written off, full damage payout. Result.

So time to get some repairs down, tart bike up and get it looking decent again.

Although there is the small matter of a second off I had, still being resolved with insurers (no, not the one from the LoFo ride out, another one...), damaging pretty much the same stuff on t'other side of bike...

For Sale & Wanted / Wanted: FZS600 Givi rack (340F) and M3 Monokey Plate.
« on: 25 September 2013, 09:34:55 am »
Mines bent to shit since last off. Doesn't look like it's going to bash back easily and it'll probably be weakened too.

So what you go people? Nice rack, will even take a full on wing rack. In fact only one of my rack arms/brackets is bent, so would even take half a Givi rack.

FZS600 Fazer / Mirrors for Foxeye
« on: 23 September 2013, 09:58:50 am »
Am I correct in saying the mirrors fir square eye and foxeye models are different? Which other models share the same model mirrors as the foxeye? 1000?

Otherwise, anyone replaced the bolt where the mirror hinges? It's not your usual nut and bolt, looks like a specialised rivet. Mines snapped.

75
FZS600 Fazer / Bolts for screen, why can't I find plastic ones?
« on: 20 September 2013, 08:56:14 pm »
Looks for some bits to patch up my bike after recent off. Screen had popped off, sheering all the heads off the plastic bolts in the process. On plus side the screen itself is still in good nick. So I'm looking for a set of 7 bolts to stick it back on. But looking on ebay, they're all aluminium, stainless steel or titanium! Yeah, they'll do the job, but if the same thing happens again, they won't snap, the screen will. So thinking sticking with plastic maybe the best plan.

But where can I get some? Am I correct in saying they're just standard M5 bolts? Could just hunt down some generic bolts.
