Standard header refit
« on: 02 June 2014, 03:19:33 pm »
What do you need to remove to refit a standard set of exhaust headers, I take it the radiator has to be removed?
Also anyone got pics of the exup cable routing as my bike was bought with the exup system removed except for the cable servo/motor.
I have purchased the Wemoto "slinky glide" cables they look quite good for the money, one of them has a black end and I was wondering if there is a difference between the two cables ?

Any help anyone?.

Just want to re-install standard set of headers with the exup valve and was wondering what needs to be removed from the bike before you can gain access to the downpipes.

Hi,radiator has to come off for sure.
I haven't used the wemoto cables myself but I understand the heat off the exhaust causes the nipples to fall off at that end....only gen yam one will do there I think?
They are colour coded, yes one is black. Without going to the garage and looking I cannot remember...if no one else comes up with answer I will look for you.
As for routing maybe photo one on a car park? Not sure is Haynes manual has diagram?

Haynes manual has no diagram. And without going down to the garage, taking tank and panels off IIRC the black cable shuts the valve and the other one opens it. Don't quote me on that (This is helpful ain't it :-)).

As for routing IIRC the cables run from the servo, across the engine to O/S frame rail, then down between carbs, behind sprocket cover to EXUP valve.

Well refitted the standard exup header and what a difference !!  so much smoother idle and a tad quieter on tickover to mid revs.
Seems to pick up better as well.

I used the Weymoto cables so I hope the cable ends hold up

Now for a service, the bikes done just under 19 thou do you think it needs the valves adjusted yet, the service schedule says every 40,000 klms (24,850 miles) seems a lot of miles to me?

No need to do the valves yet.  Most find that they're in spec when checked at 24k miles, so you're good. :)

Just had mine checked at 34k miles and the exhuasts are upper end of tolerance and the inlets are smack in the middle of tolerance, as Mike says no need to worry yet.

Thanks for the replies, I'll just do the usual oil, filters, plugs etc. then.
