Help needed
« on: 23 July 2012, 04:21:02 pm »
Had the bike out today and found that it is jumping out of second gear back into neutral. This is happening when I give it some stick in second it is worse if I am high revving then change up but it did happen when I changed at lower revs then opened the throttle.  :rolleyes

Any help please.

It could be just a worn/tired main selector spring couldn't it?

No synchromesh on these gearboxes, or on the vast majority of motorbike gearboxes.
It could be wear on the slots in second gear or/and the dogs on the sixth gear that engage in the slots and lock second gear to the splines. Or what others have said, apart from synchromesh.

I had the unenviable task of changing a fork selector due to it jumping out of gear, the selector looked like it had been on a grindstone - not good news at all. On the positive side, winter will soon be here and this will make a nice little winter project. :)

I had exactly the same problem on my first engine and gearbox. I changed the 3 dog legs selectors and shafts they were on, was ok for about 400 miles. In the end I found another engine/gearbox and threw that in.
then it started to do the same thing again, I tried to live with it, untill I pulled away from a set of lights in first, went for 2nd gear and she jammed in neutral half way round a round about!! so welcome engine number 3!!
Later I was told I should have changed the dogs/selectors, shafts and selector drum
Ive owned my FZS600 Fazer for 10 or 11 years and will never part

Well had mine back after the forks were changed £550 worth for the job only to find out that it STILL jumped out of second. Sent it back to the shop now it turns out that there is another part that is damaged (drum was not apparently) dont know the name of it but it is the one that connects tot he gear leaver that goes into the box and moves the forks if that is any help bike is still at the shop waiting for parts lets hope this does the job. My main issue is that the guy could not have tested the bike under the circumstances that the fault occured I.E. 8-10 thou in second as when I rode it home the first time I got to that area in second it jumped out again. In addition when I got the bike back there was damage to the tank it looked like slightly larger than pin point chips but they were in pairs now it is back with him he can sort this out as well. Will keep you updated.  :\
