Renthal question
« on: 08 February 2016, 01:01:14 AM »
Having read through quite a few posts regarding changing the stock bars to Renthals, the preferred choice seems to be 758's. Is the code 758 only associated with the ultra low bars. If so, what's the code number of the low bars. It's a toss up between those two that I'll go for.

758 is the code for the ultra lows, which are actually the same width and rise as stock Fazer bars. The main difference - apart from being stronger - is the pullback angle of the Renthals is less than the OE items.

The flat, straight bars are 658 if memory serves me right.  Not quite as comfortable with stock footrests as the 758s unless you have long arms. :)

Wot Mike said. I had 658s on my gen 1 for a while cos I thought it would help get closer to the sport position I was used to. But they're too narrow and you need ape arms! 758s are about an inch wider each side than stock, much more comfortable and a lot stronger (and better looking). Most people fit 758s. If you're talking about the ones with an even higher rise (can't remember the number) have a good look because they might look odd and will be quite high. You may also need longer cables and brake lines if you go for anything taller or longer than 758s.

Excellent guys, that's all the info I needed. How the hell I never came across that handy chart of specs. I don't know. Thanks for that PieEater. The other model I was considering would have been the 754 Road Low, but 758's it is. On the back of that, one last question, can you still fit the cross brace on the 758's, just think they look cool. Thanks again guys.

I've got 658s on mine, love em. So much more control than the originals, slightly narrower than the dirt bars on my gas gas, but got used to it pretty quick, just feels natural now.

I fitted 758's and cut 10mm off the ends, as they are much straighter than standard bars which turn towards the rider. I have also had 758's on another gen 1 i owned and i liked the full length also, so it's probably best to try before you cut. My preference is the cut bars.
If it's broken, it's not fixed.

Thanks for your replies guys, all your input has been much appreciated. It's going to be the 758s, just deciding on the colour, thinking of gold. At the Excel Show tomorrow, hope I don't make an impulse buy that I later regret.

Forgive my ignorance but are the 755's slightly higher than the standard bars? as I could do with mine being a little higher
(read old git)
many thanks Tim

Hi Cellarman,
From the info I've gained from other posters, I've made a note that someone has measured the rise (measurement C) of the stock bars as between 40 to 50 mm, whereas the 755's would be 85mm. Others have pointed out the fact that in choosing higher than stock bars, could present a problem regarding cable lengths etc.The 755 appears to also be referred to as Road Medium.
Hope this helps.

Thanks for that, think I will give them a try after all they aren't that expensive
Cheers Tim

Go for 658s. Makes ya feelany, and still comfortable as hell. A little more weight of the front oozes confidence!

The ones listed are road bars. The 664's are Enduro medium.
