Access To Spark Plugs (FZS Fazer 1000 04)
« on: 03 June 2012, 12:31:33 pm »
I am trying to change my spark plugs today, I can easily
access the ones either side of the engine but the ones in
the middle of the engine block look a little more tricky to
get to. What's the best way to get them out (I have the
toolkit). I'd hope removing the tank would give me easier
access but on doing it it didn't look quite that easy.

Cheers

The supplied spark plug spanner is indeed one of the easiest ways to get them out, I have done this on mine (-04 too) as the tank is fairly easy to remove I took it off and there was little problem removing the plugs.
The hardest part is not cross threading them when putting them back in, it maybe worth trimming a little of the ends of the plug leads too, and make sure the plug caps really are fitted back tightly, one of mine wasn't and it gave me rough running once I washed the bike!!

Cheers
P

Cheers dude I am less worried about removing the tank as I've done it before
but its my first spark plug replacement and the midle two look well tricky.

A rachet with various extenders and universal joints will help. Remember to be very gentle as anything you have to force, you are doing wrong.

No Paul, as Bash said, the Yam ones's best, 'specially when reinstalling.  There's a better 'feel' from the lightweight Yam plug spanner that you don't get with other stuff.  It's not the easiest of jobs, but if my chubby fingers and big hands can do it, anyone can.  I do recall contorting my arm, upside down, sideways, inside out and everywhichwaybutloose to unscrew and reinstall, but it is possible, just make sure you frequently use the words, Fuc*, Bas**** and other expetives, 'cos it helps!  :lol
IF IT AIN'T BROKE, FIX IT 'TILL IT IS.
