all pilot screws to 2 1/2 turns out, as in the Haynes manual

The Yamaha manual in the download section says 2 turns.Personally, I have never had to adjust them.

I got a new (to me) FZS600 on Sunday. Its not been used in over 5 years and looks like its been kept under a pier for those years. In teh 7 years prior to it coming off the road it had only covered about 250 miles. The guy I bought it off had bought it to do up and never had time. So today.....

I have changed the oil so I was sure there was some in there. Checked it had a spark then connected the fuel tank only to find that the tap leaks and then teh carbs dropped their fuel over my shoes.

Are you sure its not working? the FZS1000 has carbs not injection so any "turn the fuel pump" off signal will take a little while before the carbs are dry and even then, gravity can get some fuel through to keep it going.

Right. Get back to basics.
Try pressing the starter button with the side stand down and the bike in neutral. If it doesnt turn over, the side stand switch is the problem.

I dont thinks anyone on here has had a FZS600 with a factory alarm -- have they

They have, but all removed them. The only thing they were good for was draining teh battery.

The loom has a standard alarm connection point under the seat. When you opt for the alarm, they remove a bypass plug and plug in the alarm instead.

Buy them from your local dealer to be more certain of getting the real thing.

FZS600 Fazer / Re: rear brake - how much lever play before it bites?
« on: 26 April 2019, 09:25:52 PM »
Check the stop adjuster first
Bleed the brakes second.
Look at the hose and possibly replace that third.
Replacing the pads/calliper wont make a difference really.

Ultimately, the rear brake doesn't do a lot. Many people only actually press that pedal at MOT time. Personally, I find it quite useful for slowing down.

A well ridden FZS600 will leave the average power ranger on a sports bike behind. The FZS1000 / FZ1000 are even quicker.

My personal experience is that fitting a K&N filter along with an aftermarket tail pipe more or less got rid of the flat spot in the rev range. Adjusting the TPS and balancing the carbs made a big difference to how smooth it was afterwards too. Not sure if it gave any more power. no changes are required to the jets as it runs rich as standard.

As stated above, most people that have tried pod filters have had loads of trouble trying to get the jetting right and probably ended up with more noise, but less power than they started with.

Could be chain alignment.

Hope you all have fun. I cannot make it and wouldn't fancy the ride there either. I don't do that many miles in a year at the moment, let alone in one weekend :pokefun

There is a fuse under the rear panel that may be to blame. No idea of the exact location as I hvae never seen it.

Maybe they should nip across to India or China to see what sort of reception they receive there. After all, their co2 output is increasing every year, not coming down like it is over here.
The average Indian and Chinese citizen uses a fraction of the energy that we do each year.  Our emissions are if anything stagnating, if not still rising, we need to do much much more.

Maybe true for the average consumer, but when you take industry into account, the output per person in the UK is falling whilst countries like China/India continues to rise. Same goes for plastic useage. Over here we barely use any plastic bags now and recycle a huge amount. In india, they throw a lot of it in rivers as a natural waste disposal system.
