Having waited all summer for the sales I think I've missed them :rolleyes So if anyone has an old rucksack that they may as well get rid of then I'm happy to buy it off you :)

Unlucky, I'm sure that's happened to a few of us. I find it easiest to lift it standing with my back to the bike.

As I said in the first post, I know nothing about saws, so why would you think I'd know what each one is worth? Your opinion is that they are worth little - thank you for that, but why you should choose to express that opinion in such a way to offend my Mother's possessions is beyond me.

C is a tenon saw & Q is a dovetail saw, both quite self explanitory ie the tenon saw is for motice & tenon joints. The dovetail saw is for intracate dovetail joints. Both saws would suit a bench joiner & not a great deal of use for the average bloke !!
Im in the building trade & only ever used these saws way back in college.
Great, that's really helpful, looks like we won't be keeping those. Saw Q looks like it could have been used by an 1800's surgeon :eek

Cheers YFF and thanks again Mick. Just because I really do know nothing about this... when you say "the D type" you mean the type that Saw D is, not saws of a type named 'D' (if you see what I mean)?

OK we'll keep the junior saw and Mum can choose between B and D :)

Cheers Mick :thumbup

So a junior hacksaw is not for young people, but for smaller jobs?

Any tip on how to choose between saws B and D? She just wants to keep one of each type.

Or.. help sawly needed :groan

After a rough few years, my Mum has been streamlining her house and has found that she has several saws. She'd like to have some of them handy and give the rest to charity shops, however neither I nor her know much about them.

The help we need is to pick out say one of each type to keep and to understand what each one of for, how it can be used.

I took these pictures; I've no idea if the angles or the ruler are helpful so if other views would be more helpful just say.

Comments on even one or two would be most helpful, thank you.

Cycle.  Do you wear a helmet?

Who gives a shit whether I do or don't.  Really?
Apparently some people shout out of cars "Where's your helmet?" At cyclists. Have you ever  had that?

Nice pictures :thumbup Know what you mean about the winters. Be good to have houses - a summer one here and a winter one there.

Actually look what he said

And what have we all done !

I wrote that because I think there was a "What do people say when you tell them you ride a motorbike" thread not too long ago :)

Non-motorbike thread :)

I make bread and when people find out they always say:
1) Do you have a bread machine?
and then a bit later,
2) Do you make it with seed mixes?

What do people always say when you tell them something you do?

Thank you, and thanks for all your help especially during that long period of testing various incarnations of a new board. It's due to that help that the transition went as smoothly as it could.

You will all start voting Conservative or Labour when the Muslim party put up a Westminter party  :lol
You're not wrong there Slim.....we already have Muslim MP's and with our immigration back door wide open they'll get the vote for sure
They've probably got a better grasp of English than you!

:oops Nowadays it's politically incorrect to call someone a 'bigot' :tape

Maybe in 2016 London will have a Mayor who is Muslim. That's a good way of saying foc-u to the rest of the country :woot (but I think Tess'll win it.)

:) :) :) Independence for London! :) :) :)

"So, if you're interested in helping out by being a moderator"

He's actually just after a mod (or two), and a moderator helps by keeping the threads in the correct forum, deleting the spam, responding to reported posts (quite tricky sometimes) and perhaps by getting involved in the direction of the board itself.

In my experience a well moderated forum is a sign that it is alive and is a good way of putting back into the pot.
