General / tyre life
« on: 12 April 2020, 09:39:18 AM »
having just replaced a tyre valve on my 600 a few days ago the tyre is now flat, i have not used the bike since so am now thinking the tyre may have come to the end of its life, time wise, not usually a problem for me as i usually wear the tread out before i start to worry about tyre age, but not doing the mileage now compared to what i used to do...tyre is just over 7 years long should they last ?...

thats got to change this year as i have a problem thats put me off the road so if i want to enjoy long days in the saddle next spring / summer i got to get out there are get things sorted now....

thought i would start this thread as a bit of kick up the backside for me and also maybe to help others who are doing the same....

so............what you got planned this winter ?

General / shorten after market end can
« on: 10 June 2019, 12:58:54 PM »
Been thinking about this for a while now , as we all know the standard  can is a bit bland , quite and heavy , I have a scorpion can which is a lot lighter but about the same length , with the baffle in its not much louder tham the standard one , with it out its way too loud , more or less straight through , which is great when I want to let off steam  :lol

so was thinking of drilling the rivits out and cutting a lump off  , shortening the baffle at the same time , my understanding is "the shorter the can the louder its going to be" not sure if this is correct or not but sounds good   :rolleyes

anyone done this before ?   How much do i cut off ? Or do i leave both of them on there   ;)

Margate meltdown is with us again , taking place this bank holiday monday , 27 may

anyone up for a run to the seaside  ?

« on: 23 September 2018, 06:11:30 PM »
Fitted my " tomtom start 20" to the mighty thou this morning , fitted a usb port to the top yoke , live when iginition is on so no chance of a flat battery , used a handle bar mount with quick release , takes seconds to mount and dismount , went for a test ride this afternoon and it works well , bit hard to see the screen when the suns on your back but not too bad....

Got me thinking what other foccers are using.....

Whos up for a ride out to see the david silver honda collection , leiston , suffolk , i went this time last year and its well worth visiting , search "david silver" on this forum and you'll find my post and a few piccies .

to make it a bit more interesting he's holding a "honda cb 750 four - 50th anniiversary open day " next saturday 29th  and entrance to the museum will be free , normally £10 ....under 16 are free anyway and over 65's are half price so that covers most of us on here anyway  :lol

not choosen a route yet , thought i would post on here to see whos interested and then sort out a meeting place and route...

General / roadside puncture repair
« on: 01 September 2018, 09:43:47 AM »
Ive been lucky with punctures but this week I managed to pick up an inch woodscrew in the rear tyre , left it in an rode home 25 ish miles , just about got home with 12 psi up early this morning and thought I would have a go at repairing it with one of the two ŕoad side repair kits I have ,  one a crafty pluggef and the other a FOWLERS version of the same thing , used the fowlers one following the inst
ructions and in about 10 minutes the jobs done , didnt use the air canisters , I'll save them if I ever get stuck in the middld of  nowhere , I recently bought a SLIME compressor to use with the repair kits , connects to the bikes battery and easily pumps the tyre up to recòmended pressure , just a shame both items dont fit under the seat....I'll let the pictures do the talking but happy to answer any questions......well it is FOCU     ;)

For Sale & Wanted / boxeye fairing
« on: 21 July 2018, 10:35:04 AM »
Had these in the garage for a few years now , hard to store without getting damaged which would be a shame if another foccer can make ues of them , both have lugs missing but repairable , the gold one has the broken lug taped to the inside of the fairing , scrape mark on the gold one and cracks around the indicators on the red one , one has been repaired....

anyone make use of them ?

For Sale & Wanted / motorcycle build
« on: 01 July 2018, 08:06:09 AM »
Having a garage clear out and found this , a home made motorcycle build table on wheels , sturdy metal frame with heavy duty wheels , a MFC top with four tie down points and a flush fitting metal plate for the centre stand , easily takes my honda cb 400/4 which has been standing on it for a number of years.
used to restore the 400/4 , easily pushed when fully loaded , was able to push into the corner of the garage whan not working on the bike so I could get the car in the garage .
comes apart for easy transportation .

General / motorcycle storage , limited space
« on: 17 June 2018, 11:27:10 AM »
Like a lot of people I have too many toys and not enough room , even the small jobs like adjusting the chain or servicing the exup becomes a pain working in the garage sandwiched between my classic car and the garage wall, banging head and elbows on everything that gets in the way , a single garage with 3 bikes , a car ,2 kayaks , tools and various household items that shouldn't be in there anyway   :rolleyes  Is never going to work......

time to sort things out , I have a brick built shed with concrete floor roughly 7ft square , easily takes 2 bikes but very little else , the two bikes I have in there are projects that I do a bit on every now and then so I camd up with a crazy idea of a stacking system , using scaffold tube , box section steel tube , 2 winches and some decking boards , it took me a while and it is a bit tight length wise but it works    :)       Couple of small jobs to finish off but its in use , just need to tidy the garage now

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / a different kind of EXUP problem
« on: 12 June 2018, 10:22:15 AM »
The mighty thou has had a bit of a lumpy tickover recently , iam planning to ride down to poole bike night this evening so with that in mind I got up early with the intention of balancing the carbs , started the bike up to get it up to temperature and I get the 7000 rpm code , exup , not serviced for I while so I strip it down to find the cable holding /guide bracket has rusted through   :eek

managed to weld It up  although not the best job it has made the bike useable , anyone else had this problem or is it my lazy maintenance     :o

Who fancys a jolly boys outing to the seaside ?...margate meltdown coming up at the end of the month , a well attended event in aid of THE ROYAL BRITISH LEGION  , there is an official ride out from THE ACE CAFE but its a boring route for obvious reasons , A406 M25 A13 A2 M2 A299 , dont want to do that , was thinking of heading to box hill, surrey if anyone wants to meet up and then parhaps pick up others on an early start and a long day but if this weather holds out its going to be a cracker

« on: 20 April 2018, 08:49:30 PM »

General / fazer under attack !!!!!!!
« on: 14 April 2018, 04:17:24 PM »
Went to get my workshop hoover from the garage this morning only to find ,what I think is mice , have taken a liking to the filter , also on thier menu is ,a sponge and large chunks of storage blankets , looks like they have made a nest in my classic car , managed to catch a little one and spotted what I think is the mum but couldnt catch her , both my fazers share the same garage , are they under threat ? to get some poison but not sure what to get or if anyone will sell me any in this crazy world we now live in.......any advice on evicting these unwanted guests greatly received     :thumbup

Events, Meets, Ride outs etc / the david silver honda collection
« on: 18 October 2017, 09:24:15 AM »
Day off yesterday so had a day out on the mighty thou and visited david silver in Leiston , Suffolk .

for all you non honda fans David Silver is the man to go to for classic honda parts from the early 60's  to the 90's

he has built up a collection of 150 classic honda's dating from a 1951 dream 'E' type to a 1990 's oval piston NR750 one of approx 30 in the country , suggested that this is the largest private honda collection outside japan.

well worth a visit but it is a little out of the way , approx 20 miles north of felixstowe on the east coast a couple of miles from sizewell....
