Exactly. Its more about being forced to give up a running bike at knife/hammer point. And I'm pretty sure a scooter would struggle to push a 600 along ?

General / Transponder Immobiliser
« on: 12 April 2018, 01:53:48 pm »
Hi
does anyone have a transponder immobiliser ? What Im looking for is a small passive tag (similar to a smartcard) that could be in a glove, or a pocket, or in the helmet, that would activate the bike. If the tag was separated from the bike or not present, the bike wouldn't start, or would stall. Living in London the security issues are only getting worse ! I'm not sure how the antenna/transponder works, but the usual way is to have the antenna near the ignition, and the transponder on the keyring. I'm looking for a system where the transponder can be worn or be in a pocket somewhere, so that in the event of a bikejacking, the bike will stall.

« on: 05 April 2018, 08:49:06 pm »

I ended up purchasing this fine chain breaker. It's done well so far until now when I have to put the rivet link in.

I bought one of these and it lasted 1 attempt at riveting a DID chain. Something snapped, cant remember which component. I had better luck with a Bergen branded one.  good luck.

Motorcycles Matter!
Join our Awareness Ride in London
Saturday 21st April 2018
All motorcycle, scooter and moped riders are invited to come to London on 21st April to make the point that “Motorcycles Matter”.

Motorcycles play an important role in our congested cities.

The problem is that the people running things don’t get it.
Transport for London (TfL) and the Mayor of London refuse to acknowledge this.
It’s not just London: there are another 28 authorities around the country looking into Clean Air Zones (CAZ) and charging vehicles for entering them.
In London, it will cost £12.50 a day to pass the North and South Circular into central London.

Your Local Authority should be doing more to make it safe to park your bike by supplying more motorcycle parking bays with security.
Manufacturers should be doing more to build in better security.
Insurance companies should not be punishing the owners.
The government should be doing more to support the Police in their fight against theft and increasing the penalties so that owners are not financially punished due to increased premiums.
We are not a ‘cash cow’ to bolster failing finances due to government cutbacks.

So it’s time for motorcyclists to hit the road for a “Motorcycles Matter” awareness ride!

Keep an eye on social media for updates on this event.

Get passionate! Get involved!
Because Motorcycles Matter!

Yes Betty the 3rd runway would increase all traffic by 50% but corporations can profit from that ! And kerosene is still untaxed ! And unfortunately what passes for s consultation is more like a warning - they completely ignore all feedback and public opinion, all about the ££

Just got this email from TFL.
In a nutshell, any bike registered before July 2007 will be liable to pay the ULEZ charge of £12.50 in the current Congestion zone next February (2019) and within the boundaries of the North & South Circular (proposed, by 2021)
Have a read to see what the mayor has up his sleeve
https://consultations.tfl.gov.uk/environment/air-quality-consultation-phase-3b/?cid=airquality-consultation
And if you can, complete the online survey and tell him where to poke it !
some background here

Quote
We are consulting on the next stage of the Mayor, Sadiq Khan’s plan to help tackle London’s toxic air pollution, which contributes to thousands of early deaths in our city each year.

To have your say visit tfl.gov.uk/airquality-consultation

From 8 April 2019, the Mayor is introducing the Ultra Low Emission Zone in central London, replacing the T-Charge with an even tighter emission standards for diesel vehicles.

To help further reduce toxic emissions in London, the Mayor is also now proposing to:
    •   Extend these tighter emissions standards to the whole of London for lorries, buses and other heavy goods vehicles only in 2020
    •   Expand the ULEZ for all vehicles including cars, vans, motorbikes and minibuses up to the North and South circular roads in 2021

This consultation ends on 28 February 2018.

Thanks chaps ! Both great bikes I wouldn't have otherwise considered ! The FZ6 doesn't seem to well liked by the reviewers tho  :lol  and is quite fugly (I know, pot calling the kettle black) the CBF though... cheap ! Same HP as the FZS and worse mpg, but a definite contender !

« on: 05 February 2018, 09:38:36 pm »

I've had my Fazer for a year - first big bike.. and absolutely love it. Comfortable, reliable, low maintenance, powerful, easy on petrol. But the London Mayor has proposed that, being a pre 2007 (not a Euro-3 bike) it will be subject to Congestion charge and ULEZ charge from next year. So I have been looking around to replace it, but I can't find anything post 2007 that is nearly as good ! MPG drops from 50's to 40's, and power drops even in an 800 like the Fazer 8. Also looking at the Honda CBF600S, the Fazer 8, Suzuki GSF1250SA, and the FZ1. Anyone made the jump and fancy sharing their thoughts ?

FZS600 Fazer / Re: Cold starting
« on: 02 December 2017, 12:05:20 pm »
This morning I waited for the carbs to fill.. ran for 3 secs then stalled. Ignition off. Ignition on again, the pump ran for another 5-6 secs as if the carbs were empty.  Not sure if that's normal. I feel the battery is on it's way out but there's something else going on going to lift the tank up and see what's going on, but at the mo leaving and arriving home in the pitch black !

Hi my 2001 5DM Fazer is being a PITA on cold mornings.. starts for a second, then dies and won't start again until the battery is virtually flat. I can hear the pump clicking away. Maybe not giving it enough time to prime itself or something ? Once it goes it's fine.. normally starts on the button without choke - any pointers ?

I got an Abus Granit 37/60 disk lock, doesn't fit in the holder but I just chuck it under the seat. *just* fits around the disk, making it hard to attack

FZS600 Fazer / Engine rattle/rumble on 2000
« on: 03 August 2017, 01:18:47 pm »
Hi I met up with a friend who has the exact same bike as me and I was amazed at how much smoother and quieter his engine was, I don't know what to do to mine to make it sound so good. Mine "chugs" a bit on tickover and there is a rattle coming from below the camshaft. The thing is, mines only done 10,000 miles and his has done over 40k. I know my carb rubbers were replaced last year. Regular oil changes etc. Standard exhaust (he has aftermarket sports)
Sorry if this seems a dumb question, hoping someone has had the same problem.

Hi
just wanted to share my experience  - these bulbs lasted about 6 weeks (about 40 hours) each rather than the 450 hours they claimed ! Maybe a voltage or overheating problem ?

Hi Terje
Well Ive seen a few streetfighter type mods that frankly look terrible, trying to figure out why this one looks so damn good ? Could you post up a couple more pics of the front end ? And give us some details of the instruments & headlight please ?

thanks

FZS600 Fazer / Re: Header refurb questions
« on: 25 April 2017, 11:33:33 pm »

Why? What happens if you spray over the old paint?
If you spray that primer on old paint, it dissolves and puckers up off the metal. Try it yourself on a small area. I would be inclined to just do your deoxidising and spray the PJ1 - its designed to be used without primer.
I hope I wont need the engine out any time soon... happy to live with it at the moment.

A word of warning, if you are going to use that acid etch primer, it requires that every last scrap of black paint is removed, which is really an engine out job. Mine looks a bit like a dogs dinner now.  :'( all the other bits are done, water pipes, headers, snapped the bottom radiator bolt off trying to remove the rad, so back to the shop for drilling ! And waiting on the correct exhaust stud to arrive, they sent an M10 !

thanks
