Sorry ajmes1, Kebab was back tonight to buy the rack.

Just the white panniers left. £170 anyone?

2
Seat now sold to Kebab. Thanks!

Any offers for Givi wingrack and white panniers?

Sorry for the delay. Sorry big fella, black boxes are now sold. Postage to mainland UK was £10 next day so that price extends to everything.
Kebab, I bought the seat on eBay for £70 I believe. It sits slightly higher than standard and is definitely more comfortable, plus it looks good! I think the description said it had gel fitted, but I haven't opened it up so couldn't be sure!!
Collecting new bike tomorrow so open to offers.
Maybe best getting me on 07967815523
Thanks! Ross

Sorry, that would have been useful! I'm in County Down Northern Ireland.

I sold my FZS 600. Sad times. Have a few bits to clear out:

Givi wingrack in good condition. With FZS 600 fitting kit. Lost indicators as I never used them. All nuts and bolts replaced last year with stainless ones. I modified the top box plate brackets so that they can be swapped round to make the top box sit over the pillion seat rather than over the rear, can be used either way. £70 ono

FZS 600 touring seat. More comfortable than standard one. With silver piping. Good condition. £50 ono

I am also selling two sets of full luggage:

First is Givi E36 panniers and top box in great condition. Professionally sprayed. Look very smart. £200 ono

Second set is Givi E36 panniers and Homcom top box in fair condition. All with luggage straps. £120 ono

I will arrange postage for any of the above at cost. I'll try to upload some photos.

Thanks for looking!

I'm always on the lookout for a bargain. I bought the rack (wingrack 2) and 3 panniers (2x E36 and Kappa top box) about 2 years ago for around £80. Panniers were all scuffed but was still a great price. I sanded and sprayed them white when I did the bike. You can pick up soft luggage easy enough on gumtree, that Oxford tank bag I used was a £10 gumtree purchase. Along with the givi sat nav holder (£10) on the handlebars. Any other wingrack users on here may be interested in the mod I made. I flipped the fins that support the top box plate around so that the top box sits over the pillion seat. The idea being that it keeps the weight further forward and improves the air turbulence / down force it causes at speed. It also looks a bit tidier. Took about 2 mins with angle grinder. Dickturpin, I took 279 photos and my comrade took lots too. I assumed they wouldn't be as interesting to you as they are to me!

I'm back! 3500 miles in 12 days and more alpine passes than I could ever list. Epic. Highly recommended.

Got a big trip coming up, probably 2000 miles. I'm putting a new rear on but I'm unsure about the front. It is a Bridgestone Battlax BT020, I don't know what the current mileage on it is.
It has about 1mm to go on wear indicators. Tread depth is 2mm in centre, 3mm one third from centre and 3.5mm two thirds from centre.
I believe tread depth is 4mm all round new, total life expectancy is about 10k miles so by my logic I should be able to get another 2k out of it ok?

I have a carbon effect one that I'd be willing to sell. Or I have a red one that is broken but fixable. A small triangle of plastic broke off on the chain guard section where it bolts onto the swing arm, I was unable to recover the wee bit that broke off but you could easily fabricate a new piece and glue/weld/bolt it in place by overlapping it or laminating it in place with a couple of pieces of plastic..
I know, not very clear.. I could send you pics of either / both after the weekend if you want.

Cheers fazernigel, I'm with MCE so I've got UK RAC but nothing in EU. I know not to cut corners with health insurance after my soon to be wife came off her mountain bike in French alps last summer. She ended up with a broken jaw and concussion. I was very impressed with the level of care she got. Within an hour of arriving at the hospital she had a full brain scan and been to X-ray twice, in Belfast you'd still be waiting at reception! Luckily I had read the fine print and bought a policy that covered category 2 sports up to 3000m above sea level. We are getting married in July and much to my non biking mates disgust I'm calling this trip my stag party!
This will my my 5th year in a row visiting the alps, although my first taking the yam rather than my van. Will be more than happy to share a few pics, assuming I can get back home without any major 'incidents'..

Leaving 14th June by ferry Rosslare to Cherbourg then big ride to Alps, probably aim for Geneva. Ferry home is on 25th June. Going to bag as many alpine passes as possible! I've got John Hermanns 'Motorcycle Journeys through the Alps' all marked on my 1:500,000 map. Going to let weather decide which part of the Alps to hit but ideally will follow the 'route des grande alps' south to Monaco then meander back north criss-crossing the Franco-Italien border. Switzerland, Austria and Italy all offer awesome alternatives though!
Just looking at holiday insurance and EU breakdown cover this evening.. Buying separately is coming up cheapest, around £65 for both.

FZS600 Fazer / Cold starting
« on: 23 May 2012, 09:14:07 pm »
Is it normal to have to give a tiny bit of throttle when starting from cold? She starts no problem when warm but needs just a blip of throttle to get it working by itself when cold.

FZS600 Fazer / Front Discs
« on: 19 May 2012, 04:04:25 pm »
My front brakes have never been as good as I think they should be. When it was last at the mechanic he put a full litre of fluid through them. He inspected the discs and while they aren't too worn or warped at all he noticed they are worn slightly tapered from in insides out. They are also ridged quite badly.
Looks like new discs and pads. At £275 for parts alone does anyone have any cheaper suggestions?
Do any other discs fit the 2001 fzs 600, like fzs 1000 or R1?
Cheers.

Noticed a jingling sound exactly like house key on top yolk last week.. Twas the dreaded nut! 9mm and was completely stripped. Shaft was grand, 17.5mm and threads ok. Just replaced it with 12mm one.

This was on 2001 with 28k

« on: 20 March 2012, 02:05:29 pm »
Im with you Baz. Under normal riding I get no wobble. If I have luggage rack or pillion on board I get it bad. I always figured it was due to weight distribution being shifting towards the rear.

I've got later model mirrors. Went for cheap eBay ones at first, plenty of vision while stationary but too much vibration at 50+mph. I have since fitted genuine yam FZ1 mirrors from scrapyard, which are much better but still vibrate more than standards.

I am happy with the choice that I have made. It got to the stage where every other ride I took there was an incident of some kind resulting from not being seen. It was putting me off. I have seen a marked improvement since fitting the HID kit. I acknowledge the risk of dazzling other motorists on the 2-3 times per year I find myself riding in the dark however, I feel that the chance of that causing an accident is greatly outweighed by the chance of my HIDs preventing an accident.

Do others with HID conversion have same issues with blurred beam pattern?

20
I fitted a cheap(ish) HID kit that I got off eBay. Difference is unbelievable! Previous owner must have done headlight mod as currently both lights come on for dipped beam. Main beam is not HID and when riding it cannot be seen above the dipped beam! The bike has passed its last 2 MOTs with the kit. I'm in N.Ireland so had to go to MOT test centre, both years the inspector brought me over to the headlight analysis machine to point out that there is no clear beam pattern. I just explained that having nearly been killed too many times, lights that shine through solid objects have made a huge difference, which they have. I would hope police would understand that logic too.
Your just noticing the side light because now it sticks out like a yellow sore thumb! I rectified this with a super bright LED one.
I'm not sure if it's just the cheap kit I bought but I get a lot of stray light coming from my headlights. For example when riding in the evening behind a queue of 6 cars I can see my lights illuminating the reflective signposts ahead of the first car in the queue!
I don't ride much in the dark, anytime I have there have been a few oncoming cars flash me.. But at least now they see me!

hi spoonman where did you get the bellypan from?
Hey Bootz. I can't find the hugger online and can't remember where I got it. Sorry. It's not great quality, very thin plastic (found that out when I tried to get it welded) but it looks ace after being painted and new decals put on!

FZS600 Fazer / Alpine Road Trip
« on: 09 March 2012, 08:42:41 am »
Hello!
I've owned my 2001 FZS 600 for 5 years, I bought it with 20k miles and I've put a further 8k on it with annual servicing. I've had no problems with the bike. (I go fairly easy on her)

I am planning a trip to the Alps in June, which will involve a long motorway ride from Cherbourg to Northern French Alps and back and 7 days of Alpine Pass riding! :) All with full pannier set.

Should I be concerned about breakdowns/problems given the age / mileage of my bike?

Any precautions I should take when getting it serviced before I go? (eg clutch?)

Any input would be much apprechiated. Thanks.
