Usually the problem is corrosion of the large copper contacts within the unit. It is with caution possible to open and clean the contacts

That definitely looks bad enough to cause the issue you described.

At least it is a cheap fix  :)

Std dry weight for r1 is 390lbs
Fazer is 458lbs
Expecting to be able to swap forks over without any mods is incredibly optimistic.
Spring rate, then damping.
I forget which model of gsxr 750 it is (iirc it's the k1-3, but don't quote me), but with a 10mm spacer the std spring is ideal for the r1 forks and plenty out there cheap.
Take my advice or leave it, but remember I used to spanner for Jim Moodie and earned a living from translating rider talk to engineering solutions.

:agree on both of his posts
Plus the standard fork springs are progressive and go from 8.1 to 11.8 and they are considered too soft by most owners. With standard R1 7.1 linear springs you would never get the most basic of items  "laden sag" anywhere near what would suit you. At 135m the fork stroke on the R1 forks is 5mm less than the OEM Fazer your start point for sag would probably be between 33 and 45mm
Both bikes as far as I know take 5w oil as standard which is considered to light and 10w is a better option. However changing the oil without changing the springs will make matters worse.
One of the biggest issues I  found with the 1000 was its tendency to run wide on acceleration out of bends (Understeer). Trying to dial that out was extremly difficult, but once I got it sorted the bike is a joy to ride fast.
I maintained the standard forks and used 10w oil and Wilber progressive springs.
The reason I fitted Wilber progressive springs in the end  was simply because I do a lot of 2 up riding and travel on very undulating roads (as Skippernick discovered  :lol ).

5LV  You would never hear much of Jim nowadays where is he now? Great rider, one of the few who made on road and track. I will never forget how lucky he was when he got caught up in the aftermath of the accident that took David Jefferies out  :(

Absolutely gutted, a really nice genuine fellow. When the news filtered through to the paddock today, the place was in total shock and disbelief. It was heartbreaking to see a few of the team in tears trying to pack up as we passed heading back to the bikes.

Latest from the club after meeting with his family is for the racing to go ahead tomorrow and riders have agreed that no championship points will be awarded and all prize money will go to the family.

My condolences to his family and very close friends.
Rest in peace William in  the great road race track in the sky.

Hi all, who on here has gone from a gen 1 thou to the FZ6? happy with the switch? reasons for & against. No plans to swap my thou any time soon as i'm still fettling & buying shite for it but every now & then i do like to swap for a 600.

Don't want to cause any friction but is there a specific model FZ6 that is considered the best one to get. Cheers, D.
yes it is the S2

They are the same thin usually the IC2 would be an updated version of the 5LV. Be aware some of those items are no longer available, used is the only way to go

It will only line up when you switch the ignition on or turn off the engine with the kill switch. Adjustment is made on the cables under the tank on the right hand  side

About 12 miles from Downey and myself, are you staying around for long?

Off to Ireland on Thursday for a wedding.
Looking warm, talk of a heat wave,
Do I wear my goretex textile kit, which is new so never worn in the summer it has vents etc, or leathers?
With the goretex I don't need to worry about  rain showers obviously. Leathers I need to pack waterproofs
whats your advise.

Cheers Nick
Goretex probably more versatile, but I just prefer leather.
Although from my experience they can be just as hot as leather.
Where in Ireland are you heading too Nick?

« on: 11 June 2018, 10:36:26 PM »
Yeah, more common on the R1, but d a few have been reported on the Fazer1000. same base engine. Luckily the cap falls into the basket and can be retrieved. Tap it back in (smooth side first) about 3mm and it will be fine  :thumbup Have seen fellows tearing their hair out trying to resolve the issue :eek I remember putting a post on here about it a good while ago.

Check the pivot hole in the old lever you removed and see if it has elongated.

All the comments made by BBrown are very relevant
However if the bike is still on the standard rear shock turn the preload up full, if set to the lowest setting the rear sags to much and can cause the issue you describe.

The answer about weight was heading towards that :pokefun
You were just hinting it and some lads just don't take hints  :lol

22
Screw the cable adjuster at the lever back all the way allowing plenty of slack and adjust it at the engine end  :rolleyes

FZS600 Fazer / Re: Sensitive throttle
« on: 01 June 2018, 04:41:13 PM »

I have a 2001 FZS600 Fazer which has a sensitive throttle. Twice now I have done impromptu wheelies. I have checked the throttle adjustment and that's fine, just a midges play before it starts to rev. I wonder if the throttle springs are stretched ?  It's putting me off riding it out of junctions etc. Any tips or help ?

What size sprockets are on the bike?
How long have you been riding?
What have you ridden before the FZS600?
How much to you weigh?

All of the above will have a bearing on what answers I would give.

Does it slip into neutral easily when stopped or keep missing it and going to second or first which ever way you are trying?
