General / After 16 happy years I am no longer a Fazer owner
« on: 28 May 2016, 04:46:16 pm »
I sold my FZ1-S today so for the first time in 16 years, I do not have a Fazer in my garage.

I have owned three from new.

2000 FZS-600S 'facelift' boxeye model - one with the red black silver and white 'sport' paintwork. Carried me for 22,500 miles.

2002 FZS-600 foxeye model - silver blue 52,500 miles.

2008 FZ1-S lava red 66,623 miles.

Cracking bikes all of them. The places I've been, the things I've seen, the people I've met...

It's got to go, I've bought its replacement already and I need more space in my garage.

Price guide £2,495 but I will now accept less to shift it quickly. Advertised elsewhere.

Deep Red Metallic (DRMK) 'Lava Red' paintwork with Old Gold colour five spoke wheels. I have owned this magnificent machine since new (31/05/2008) and have enjoyed getting on for 66,000 miles of reliability, power, comfort and fun. Note - sixty six thousand miles.

This bike has been my commuting work horse - hence the relatively high mileage - and I have used it in all weathers and in all seasons of the year. Silver engine paint and the downpipes are a bit scruffy as a result; but overall the bike is in good condition. Regular servicing and cleaning has kept it in fine fettle. It still starts on the button and runs like the day it was delivered.

The bike is offered for sale without any modifications or add-ons. This is as close as you will get to the original factory specification.

MOTs, tyres, annual checks and service histories (see photos), with many bills and invoices available to back these up. Services carried out every 6,250 miles in accordance with Yamaha's periodic maintenance schedule. Each service has included an oil and filter change.

Recent work carried out includes:

65,606 miles - Rear suspension links dismantled, cleaned, greased and re-assembled with new oil seal (04/10/2015)

64,042 miles - Service including oil and filter change, new DID Gold X-ring chain and sprockets (23/05/2015)

59,911 miles - Brakes serviced, new front pads, new brake fluid, radiator leak repaired (10/01/2015)

58,759 miles - Tappet clearances checked and rectified to tolerance, new spark plugs, coolant drained and replaced (23/10/2014)

57,071 miles - Front and rear tyres replaced 26/07/2014

55,155 miles - Service including oil and filter change (14/06/2014)

Tyres - front Bridgestone BT-023 3.5mm tread and rear Avon Storm Ultra 2 5mm tread.

Original full toolkit is present. I have the V5 document, the bike is registered in my name at my home address, it is HPI and insurance register clear (check for yourself, please) and MOT'd until 31/05/2016. I have all three original keys, including the all important red master key, which is still in its protective sheath. In addition, I have the original Yamaha marketing brochure from 2008, owner's manual, service book (only the first two services stamped while bike was in warranty) and the original Yamaha dealership sales paperwork.

The panels have no crash damage, dents, cracks or repairs made to them. There are two tiny paint chips on the tank and to one of the rear side panels, and a small scratch to the headlight lens. Considering its age and mileage, it's in pretty good nick. Sold as seen, with no warranty or guarantee. I am happy to welcome any inspection by prior appointment. Can be seen in Huntingdon evenings and weekends or Peterborough during working hours weekdays. No test rides.

Send me a PM for more info. All questions will be answered as soon as I can.

Well, the thou clicked over 40k this week. It's due a new chain and sprockets, they're in the garage ready to fit. But an eventful last 7 days so I thought I would share.

Monday - the rear Avon Storm 2 Ultra punctured on my way home from work, 3 miles from home. I managed to wobble the old girl back to base, booked a tyre change (on my drive at 08.30 - thank you as ever to Nick Challinor at NC Motorcycle Tyres). The Avon was down to the bars after 15,868 miles (yes that's right - nearly 16k from a rear tyre on a FZ1). I swapped to the VFR for my daily commute.

I commute into Northampton via the A14 and A43. The last 3 miles or so is solid queuing traffic and it's the reason why I use the bike. I reckon it saves me half an hour a day. But why, when I'm filtering past the outside of the queue at about 20mph, do some drivers coming in the OPPOSITE direction, believe it's absolutely necessary to track towards the centre line, as if they're trying to give me a nudge? Especially the truck driver on Thursday morning, who was so foccin' angry he was flashing his headlights and waving at me so violently, there is no way he could have been in control of his vehicle?

And that evening. First, to the driver of the Type R who tried to turn me into a mobile Armco barrier on Tavalera Way - foc off. Second, to the driver of the 911 who followed me down the slip road onto the A14 - could I please have back the rubber you nicked off my new rear tyre? You'll find it smeared across your front bumper and  headlights.

Still alive.

Just.

For Sale & Wanted / WANTED: FZ1 Front Mudguard/Fender
« on: 03 June 2012, 09:52:17 am »
Probably due to some scrote having a kick at my bike, I am left with a cracked and damaged front mudguard.

So I'm looking to source a replacement in Lava Red.

I understand that the R1 mudguard 2003-2006 is similar.

I would be grateful if anyone could help me out with tracking one down, please. Cash waiting.

Thanks.
