General / Fazer models
« on: 23 March 2014, 02:22:48 pm »
Could someone do up a list of the Fazer models through the years for the 600 and 1000 and stick a pic with each model? Ah go on :lol

FZS600 Fazer / Fazer 600 has a detuned R6 engine

Is it true or is it an old wives tale? Where's the proof? Then there's the it's based on a thundercat theory

FZS600 Fazer / One owner Fazers
« on: 24 December 2013, 12:28:19 pm »
Are there any foccers out there who bought a Fazer back in 98 and have had the bike since new? Would be interesting to follow a bike from zero miles and see where its been and what work has been done on it over the years.

Fazer 400 and other models / Wiring loom
« on: 17 November 2013, 12:55:48 pm »
I bought a wiring loom a few months ago off fleebay advertised as a 400 loom. Only got a chance to look at it today and it looks like it's a 600 loom :rolleyes . It has a two pin connector going to the ignition and the 400 has a four pin. It also has two extra connectors near the cdi connector probably for an alarm which the 400 doesn't have. My question is how hard would it be to modify the fleebay loom to work on the 400?

FZS600 Fazer / camcap bolts
« on: 27 September 2013, 08:19:38 pm »
I'm removing my camshafts and I know you can damage them if you take them out wrong so I thought I'd ask here before I do it. The manual says to remove the upper chain guide and to loosen the cam cap bolts from the outside in and in a crisscross pattern. I attached a picture of what I think that means I'm just wondering if it's right? Hopefully it uploads :lol Also do you have to take the exhaust side chain guide out or can you leave that in?

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Fzs1000 weak points?
« on: 01 September 2013, 09:51:01 pm »
The Fzs 600 has a few weak points in the front sprocket nut, the exhaust, second gear and the rear caliper. Does the Fzs 1000 have any common problems areas?

FZS600 Fazer / steering bearing adjustment
« on: 03 August 2013, 08:28:57 pm »
I'm a bit confused by the instructions for adjusting the steering bearing so I thought I'd check before I do anything with it. The manual seems to say slacken off the lower ring nut totally, then tighten it to 52NM, then slacken it off totally again and then tighten it to 18NM. Is that right? Page 3-36 of the 98 service manual. I guess the first 52NM tightening is just to pull everything together and make sure everything is lined up properly?

General / FOC-U Football League 2013
« on: 21 July 2013, 10:34:32 am »
The football season is starting up again in a few weeks so I'll get the ball rolling and start this year's league :lol The idea is to pick 15 players within a maximum budget of 100 million. The players get awarded points each week depending on how well they do and the person with the most points at the end of the season is the winner and gets a BRAND NEW FAZER! (if they buy it themselves) :lol

Everyone is welcome to join and it doesn't cost anything. If you're not a big football fan you can still join in with an auto-pick team to get you going. If you were in last year's league you just log into your account from last year and rejoin the league.

If you're joining for the first time then the website is http://fantasy.premierleague.com
and the League code for this year is 278076-73735

FZS600 Fazer / Headstock bearing wrench
« on: 09 July 2013, 09:07:37 pm »
Does anyone know of a cheaper alternative to Yamaha's headstock bearing wrench? 9089001403
Seems a bit dear for what it is.

FZS600 Fazer / chain rivet
« on: 29 June 2013, 09:02:27 pm »
I stuck a new did chain and sprocket set on the bike and I'm just wondering if there's a spec on the dimensions that the riveted link should be after it has been riveted? I had a look on the did site and I couldn't see anything but maybe I missed it. It's the outer diameter of the head of the riveted pins and the inside diameter of the indents in the pins that I'd be interested in. Anyone know if there's a spec?

FZS600 Fazer / oil leak
« on: 11 May 2013, 09:59:25 pm »
I seem to have an oil leak behind the magneto. doooh. Is it engine rebuild time to replace that oil seal? If it is what specialist tools would I need to get the engine apart. I'm guessing a puller for the magneto, clutch and starter clutch? Then a valve tool. Might aswell do them if I have to take it apart. Ring compressor, low end torque wrench. Anything else? Parts wise what would I need? Rings, gaskets...anything else? I've done 2 stroke engines but not 4 stroke so I'd be a newb to engine rebuilds. Anyone got any good news for me?

General / A Fazer Will Never be a Classic!
« on: 22 March 2013, 01:12:06 pm »
I'm talking about the first generation ones. There's no doubt they are a great bike and I think all bikers respect them for how good they are but I don't think they'll make it to the status of classic bike mainly because they're too good! They're so good that people use them as their everyday work horse for battling through all sorts of weather while their fancy sportsbikes or whatever are parked up nice and warm in the shed under a blanket the Fazer's are out there in the shite getting you where you need to go and not complaining an ounce! But because of that I wonder will there be any left in 20 or 30 years or will they all be ridden into the ground? What do you think will they be a classic bike?

Fazer 400 and other models / Front Brake Pads
« on: 12 March 2013, 11:26:01 pm »
The 400 has the brembo front calipers so I'm presuming the pads are different to the blue spot calipers. Anyone know what size pads go in the 400?

FZS600 Fazer / Rad Hoses
« on: 06 February 2013, 07:35:34 pm »
Anyone replaced your rad hoses? Can you just get a length of rad hose and cut it to the different lengths or do they have to be made to measure? And if you can just get a length of hose and cut it what diameter or type is on the Fazer?

FZS600 Fazer / Rear Brake Disc
« on: 30 January 2013, 09:34:02 pm »
I have to get a new rear brake disk. I usually go for Yamaha parts but the OEM disk is £152 plus postage. Bit of a rip off so I'm looking at either an ebc pro-lite for £68.24 plus postage
http://www.demon-tweeks.co.uk/motorcycle/brake-discs/bike/yamaha/1998/fzs600-fazer/ebc-brakes-brake-disc-stainless-rear-rotor

or a brembo one for £78 plus postage
http://www.demon-tweeks.co.uk/motorcycle/brake-discs/bike/yamaha/1998/fzs600-fazer/brembo-replacement-upgrade-disc-rear

Has anyone used either of those discs? Any opinions on them?

General / Who has the highest mileage on their Fazer?
« on: 10 December 2012, 09:14:59 pm »
We all know the Fazers are fairly bulletproof so I was wondering whos bike has the highest mileage? Can be any model Fazer and you don't have to have done all of the miles yourself but it has to be the original engine. Anyone got more than 100,000 on the original engine?

FZS600 Fazer / anyone fitted a quickshifter?
« on: 26 October 2012, 01:29:22 pm »
I have a quickshifter and it has rose joints on the end of it like in the picture below

I'm just wondering if this type of joint can be used with the ball on the end of the standard fazer shift mechanism or will I have to modify it?

FZS600 Fazer / wheel bearings
« on: 10 October 2012, 04:51:04 pm »
I discovered water has gotten into one of my front wheel bearings and it needs to be changed. I know you take the seal out first then knock the first bearing out with a drift and then knock the second one out but when you're knocking the first bearing out there doesn't seem to be much of the bearing free to hit against because of the inner spacer. All you've got is a small bit of the inner race to hit against. I want to try and get the bearing out intact so I was wondering if anyone has changed the front bearings what did you find was the best way to get that first bearing out?

General / FOC-U football league
« on: 12 August 2012, 01:37:02 am »
The football season is starting next week so if you want to pick your own team and join in feel free. The idea is that you pick a team of 15 player within a budget of £100m and the players are awarded a score each week based on how well they performed in that week's match. You can transfer players in and out during the season and the team with the highest total score at the end of the season wins. For anyone that hasn't played it before there's an auto pick option that picks a team for you to get you started.

Anyone that was in last season's league should still be in this season's one if you log into your old account.

The FOC-U league code is 879923-216701

FZS600 Fazer / split link cam chains
« on: 03 July 2012, 06:55:33 am »
I've had a bit of topend noise for a while so I took out the cam chain tensioner and it only has two notches left on it so I think its time for a new cam chain. I was wondering what people experiences were with split link cam chains? Have you use them or would you trust them?
