There are a few things theft p**s me off like phone use map reading but currently there's a slew of people driving around with low tyre pressures or missing lights.
More than that, if you point it out to them they get all pi**y with you.

+1 for ABS unit.
Where are you based? Maybe someone could offer a second opinion.
I'd be happy to have a look if you are within 100 miles of Newport.

Can't help with the screen info but I can tell you that "I has a hotdog" no cheese burgers here.

Fazer8 / FZ8 / Re: Hateful 8
« on: 14 October 2017, 04:53:01 pm »
When I bought mine it was on a whim. I had gone to buy a Tracer and had all but forgotten about the existence of the fazer 8.
I had always liked it aesthetically speaking as it stood out from the other fazers (600 and 1000) and from the then current crop of bikes that were on the market.
As for it being quiet in the 800 section I prefer to see that as a positive. To me it means that people aren't on here every five minutes looking for solutions to problems.
On the topic of problems, I tend to see most problems with any bike I have due to the mileage I cover (20000 pa) and the only maintenance cost has been a new starter relay £6, new front wheel bearings £8 and the 24000 mile top end service £250.
Granted I've spent £1500 on other things but they were just for personal preference and detailing.
Do I have anything bad to say about the bike, well realistically no. I commute 100 miles/day, motorway, A and B roads and ride for pleasure on weekends and have no problem covering 400 miles/day without complaint.
It's torquey enough, fast enough, can filter through city traffic with ease and can tear up the mountain roads in Wales. I can see why these bikes didn't sell when they were out especially at the asking price at the time but I'm willing to bet that with a bit of tweaking they would sell like hotcakes now.

As Celticbiker says- avoid brakes, seat, grips. I also regret accidently coating the exhaust headers and finding that the first time out I stopped at some traffic lights and it was smoking like a chip pan fire.

Smells nice though dunnit  :b

what's is this washing of bikes? are they not self cleaning, like the dishes & clothes in my house?

Theres loads of dating apps for your phone these days, got a feeling you're going to need them if your Mrs reads that.  :lol

Depends on how you wash your bike I guess.
It leaves a slightly waxy coating on everything, if this doesn't bother you then coat everything apart from the seat and grips and brake discs.
The idea is that you don't wash the bike too often through out the winter so that the protective layer stays in place.

Introduction / Re: Might be coming back
« on: 09 October 2017, 01:17:10 pm »
The Fazer 8 is indeed an excellent bike. The only thing I found dislikeable was the standard exhaust, far too quiet.
For me, I went with suspension upgrades front (Andriani) and rear (Nitron) (personal preference) K&N filter, scorpion serkit silencer (works better with db killer) +10mm higher bars and a gel seat insert.
150 miles to a tank, plenty of torque and goes ballistic at 7k and comfortable enough for a 400 mile day, what more do you need.

Finally got around to replacing the front wheel bearings and stripping and cleaning the rear caliper. New rear pads, bearings and tyre next weekend.

General / Another help request
« on: 23 September 2017, 01:35:10 pm »

Never thought about it before but noticed that someone else asked for help with a Vlog so thought I'd ask too.
Not trying to do a Vlog so not stepping on toes but a while back I thought that seeing as I commute 500 miles/ week I'd capture all the stupid things we encounter as bikers.
The problem I have is that for some reason I don't really see that much stupidity and after the best part of a year I have about 10 minutes worth of video  :'( .so my request is that if you guys use a camera and capture anything interesting would you mind sending it to me so I can edit it into my compilation. Full credit will be given for any clips submitted.
As I'm new to this I'm not sure if you can submit through you tube or if you have to mail them to me directly (PM me for an address) or just provide a Dropbox (or similar) link for me to download from.
For now this is the first good ride I had on the Fazer after getting the suspension sorted out.

I went the other way on my 800. I ditched the R&G and put the original back on as I think it looks better.

I had been riding tdm900's for 15 yrs and when thinking of a replacement I test rode the MT. The engine is a dream but like all yams the suspension is seriously lacking,  first job would have been to replace the rear shock cos it's way too soft and under damped and resprung and re valves the front.
When I walked into the dealers to buy one the fazer 8 was sat there and I couldn't resist it and as it was 2000 gbp cheaper than the MT that covered the cost of upgrading the suspension on it.

Fazer8 / FZ8 / Re: Improved front brake pads
« on: 16 September 2017, 11:11:30 am »
No.
I take one pad out of one caliper, pump the pistons out a bit (be careful not to go too far or you'll end up with air in the calipers)and clean them with brake cleaner spray and a toothbrush and strips of cloth (not the wife's she won't appreciate it). Push them back in and repeat with all the others. It can take a while if you haven't done it before but with practice can be done in 15 minutes.

Fazer8 / FZ8 / Re: Improved front brake pads
« on: 12 September 2017, 01:14:27 pm »
Oem pads are never going to be as good as after market ones.
There might be something else at work here though, on my 800 I find the inner pistons tend to get sticky and causes the outer pads too wear quicker, when the lever gets spongy I whip the pads out and give the pistons a clean and the brakes are greatly improved for another six weeks.

Fazer8 / FZ8 / Re: I was bored Friday in work so I made this
« on: 03 September 2017, 09:30:46 pm »
It does look nice but there are some very big gaps in it, particularly in the tuning fork logo, for stones to get through and damage the radiator.
True, but I only made it for the aesthetics.
As standard there is nothing at all protecting the radiator so I had nothing to lose.

And that's the thing about regulations. Check the things on the list, if they fall within specification the bike passes regardless of whether it's safe or not

What a load of old rubbish.
Makes you realise how lucky we still are here in the UK.
So long as the lights work and it stops you can pretty much do what ever mods you want without type approval requirements.

No problem.
If you continue to struggle with low speed maneuvering the offer is always open.
Edit
Just a thought, if you rode your bike to the wedding you could pop over or I could meet you somewhere in Sunday on your way home as you'll be passing by my place.

Don't want to sound like a creep but where in north Devon?
I was thinking that if the weather is going to be OK on the weekend I could pop down and have a look see if you wanted.

Poorly tensioned chain could also cause low speed control issues.
Where are you based?

General / Re: Who wants some free tyres?
« on: 31 August 2017, 01:18:12 pm »
I'm in category B.
Having used all the major manufacturers tyres when they bring out a new one I find myself going back to Michelin because the side wall construction suits the way I like my suspension to work.
I'm currently using pilot power 3 because I can source them for 155 gbp/pair delivered.
I recently rejected a set of Conti sport attacks for 100 gbp because the side wall is too soft for my liking.
