Rode to work today 50 miles, no existent, just pick a line and go   :D, several people have commented that the back of.the bike looks higher, I suspect that this is due to my old shock being fuc'd, also noticed that you get the front end to rise realy easily so lots of fun  :)

Right, All sorted, found that the connection from the control module on the Grips and the feed from the front break light switch was not sound, bit of solder later and all OK. What I have noticed is that if you sit at a set of light for more that 5 mins the blue light comes on. I think that this could be the Oxford controller monitoring the voltage and switching off. This is not an issue as I usually gently cruise up to lights, and try ad time it so I don't stop. Thanks everyone for your advice, this forum is great.  :)

« on: 07 March 2012, 03:39:29 pm »
Thanks for the feedback, I was going to pray it in the garage (warm and dry and no wind). How difficult is it to refit the clutch cover as I have been told the clutch actuator arm is difficult to refit. There is no pitting in the casing to I am hoping I will not need the P38. I have bought aerosols, so possibly a mistake, oh well! so do I need a primer?

thanks once again

Anyone got any pics on how to take a "+" feed off the rear brake light switch? As I am not too sure how to do it. Bit of a Novice.

« on: 06 March 2012, 05:03:24 pm »
The winter has taken its toll on my 2002 FZS 1000, the clutch housing has allot of blistered paint and some has come off. I have ordered some paint, primer and Lacquer from RS and I was wondering is it possible to spray it while on the bike or should I take it off? Also does anyone know a good sprayer in the West Midlands that could spray it over if I provide the paint?

Just to correct my original post I have the grips wired into the Breaklight switch on the right hand side handlebar. I have spoken to Oxford and they were going to get someone to ring me back but that has not happened to date. I am going to check all my connections again tonight as I noticed that under hard acceleration from a standstill the blue light comes on, and the grips stop producing heat.

The issue I have is that when I am at set of lights the grips turn off as there is not enough voltage avalaible to run the lights  and the heated grips, is there another switched live I could tap into that would resolve this issue?

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Re: Chatter noise when i pull the clutch in..
« on: 29 February 2012, 08:55:29 pm »
I had a rattle simlar to yours that I could not pinpoint and thought it was a clutch issue, turned out to be an exup valve that had worn on the pully end, and it was rattling against the bush. Even though I had serviced every 4K since 15K its now done 60K  >: . So get your ear down by the valve on both sides. New (OK used) but good condition exup valve and new bushes, humms like a baby and no rattle.

Right, Have been running a new set of Oxford Sports grips off the battery for a few weeks to get used to them. I have now wired them into the lighting connectors on the handle bars where I had my hot hands. Noticed tonight that if the bike is on tickover and you turn on the grips it will only light the blue light, i need to rev it, or be Physically running to be able to up the heat setting. Is this OK ?

Still waiting for the weather to pick up before I fit my shock, the suspence is killing me! One slight issue is that the instructions that Devilsyam included may have made it into the recycling  :oops .  Anyone got an electronic copy that they can send to me? Please?

« on: 27 February 2012, 01:09:26 pm »
Hi everybody, I'm doing a few days touring in Scotland within the next week or two, and as it's likely to be a bit chilly I'm thinking of investing in some heated clothing, probably just a bodywarmer/vest and maybe some gloves, but I have a few questions:-

Anybody use this type of thing and have any recommendations as to what's good?

Will it drain the battery (Gen 1)?

Thanks

Hi I commute 100 miles a day and through the colder months I use a EXO2 heated waist coat and oxford heated grips. What I find is that if your core is warm and hands are warm then the rest of you stays warm. I do also use Gortex Cordora suit and waterproof boots. Toasty! As far as the battery, it goes on the optimate every night and have not had an issue so far and I have running this configuration for 6 months. Hope this is of some help.

I have just spoken to Rev's Racing and they have quoted me £290 - £310 for a Fork upgrade to the same level as Phil had done. Looks as though the price has gone up. Phil have you got your bike back together and been for spin yet?

Got a second hand valve off ebay, good condition bit a little dirty, could I clean it with alloy wheel cleaner? Or is that too corrosive ?

Update on progress, got everything mounted and wired up, but had complete nightmare with getting the bulb attachment to mount properly, tried different ways but the back of the bulb mount was so long that it fouled the infills. Rang the supplier and they finally admitted that is was for a car not a bike and agreed to give me my money back. What a waist of time  :wall

Back on Halegen, Less Hassle. Thank you for all your advice, its been a great help.

Does anyone know what the weight is of the standard yamaha fork oil?

Although dual-rate like the original Yamaha ones, the Hyperpros are firmer in the first part of the stroke and softer in the latter.

Thicker oil exacerbates the poor high speed damping issues with the stock fork valves.  I'd go with what Hyperpro supply (if memory serve me right, they come with oil) or maybe a grade lighter.

Thanks Falcon, this is a great help. I have also seen a good deal on Ohlin's as well so now need to make a decision Progressive or Linnear?  Had progressive on my 600 and they worked well, but the Thou is quite different.

Cheers Guys, now need to watch ebay for a good valve as mine has worn on the pully end. Current valve has been extracted from the bike at every service and re-greased to ensure that it does not jam.
