Fazer8 / FZ8 / Re: What tyres to fit
« on: 11 November 2015, 10:27:03 am »
I've just fitted a pair of Road Pilot 3s but only managed 40 miles on them before the roads became too greasy - don't class myself as hero enough to take them out in this weather.    :eek

Fazer8 / FZ8 / Re: Fazer 8 Wing Mirrors
« on: 05 October 2015, 05:25:12 pm »
Had to do it a couple of times when stopping at a friends a while back and couldn't remember having any problems with them, so I've just nipped into the garage to check them and whilst they need a 'firm' move, they certainly weren't hard or difficult to move (and my bikes a couple of years old now)

Just to clarify though, that was moving the whole stem as one unit, not twisting the actual mirror, don't think they're designed to move much?

There's a couple of pictures of Grandma doing track days with her mirrors in the upright position.

I think I got almost 160 out of a tank with a 50/50 (ish) mixture of steady A roads and twisties ladened up for Stormin the castle, but by then my pucker was twitching to find a garage asap. Normally gets to about 140/150 before it tells me to 'fill up' and that's after filling the tank reasonably full.

Not heard any one get any where near to 180 yet, but would also be interested to hear if they have.

General / Tyre wear
« on: 02 September 2015, 08:18:56 am »
ok, so I've never had a bike before that has managed 800 miles never mind 8000, and so I've never had a set of tyres from new that have racked up that amount of miles.

My Fazer 8 has the original BT21s fitted, and whilst the rear tyre seems to be wearing pretty much evenly and as I'd expect, the front tyre is kind off 'egg' shaped with the right side massively worn compared to the left side. If I lived in Birmingham (I don't) I'd say it was down to using roundabouts all day (I don't) Infact strangely enough I prefer left hand bends to right (is this the issue?)

That aside - what's the best option for replacements? Has the rear still got enough life left to replace just the front and if soshould I stick to the originals, or mix, or replace the entire set. The rear (tyre) still feels reasonable on corners, and whilst I do occasionally use the motorway, the majority of my rides are on As and Bs.

Cheers guys

I have not tried yet but I wonder how to remove the silver caps on top of the screws and not damage the paint on the handle bar mount.  Any idea?

they're just plastic allen key bolt covers, should pick off with finger nails?

I have the same questions.  4th comment on this page has some info: http://www.779cc.org/forum/fz8-mods/663-bar-risers.html
Looks like he was able to go 1.5inches.

but was that 1.5inches with the higher bars as well?    :wall

I have a set of OEM Gen2 FZ1 risers if they're any good?

If not, I have some lower risers (around 45mm total) that I'll be selling as soon as my new bars arrive

The OEM are standard silver, the lower are sprayed black but in need of a touch-up/re-spray

thanks. Just waiting feedback about what kind of adjustments etc are needed for what height. No idea where to start or what heights they come in at.

For some reason my wrists seem to hurting more this year when riding my 2013 Fazer 8, so was thinking that maybe some bar risers may help.

Has any one tried these and got some feed back?

There also seems to be varying sizes/heights, how high can you go without interfering with existing cabling etc?

All feedback appreciated.

cheers

Is there a list and/or map on here that shows all the local and national meeting places/bike cafes?

The only two I'm aware of in my area are Squires and Fridaythorpe but would love to know what's further afield to plan a ride out to, use as pit stops. Must be some hidden gems out there?

Perhaps a map could be put up like with the members one?

in the winter - 40 miles each way and between 45 - 60 mins each way when in the cage.
in the summer - 65 miles each way and about 90 mins when on the bike  :lol

I like the look of both but don't think the missus would be impressed with the high level one burning through her leg?
If you're keeping the high level one, will you be selling the Mivv on?

hi all, apologies for the delay, wasn't trying to avoid you - honest!

Still not entirely sure what's gone on.

Although not ridden as much as I'd've like over the past few months, over the past month alone I must've covered about 400 miles, and good miles too, 45-50 miles a trip on the back roads so plenty of revs going on.

On Tuesday it was a typical 45 mile back road ride to work plus a 10 mile town ride.

When I got to the bike, about 9 hrs later, and turned the key there was absolutely nothing, just deadness, no lights, no ignition, no noise, nothing.
Tried wriggling, pulling  and moving everything I could (on the bike that is!) but still nothing.

Tried a little jump start and got the instrumentation flashing up so managed to get a jump start and started first time.
Was getting a bit late by now and had started raining so took the motorway home (about 45 mins) and put it on the trickle charge which was showing high amber before green (charged)?

Now I can't remember  the bike being in parking light mode and I'm certain that I'd've noticed when I left the bike as you give it the normal, 'one last look before I leave it for the day' kinda thing, that the lights were on?

I've always got the bike on trickle charge over the winter months and whilst has been disconnected for some months now so pretty sure battery is in good condition, and was showing a good amount of charge. when I got home so obviously it's charging ok but if the battery was dead would 45 mins be enough to fully charge it.

I'm really hoping it's all my own fault for possibly leaving parking lights on ?
