Title: Winter bike gear.
Post by: Stormbringer on 04 December 2019, 08:31:08 am
What do you use  in this cold weather ?
I have been using a keis premium heated sleeveless jacket run off the bike battery.
Halvarsons Merino wool base layer under the Keis.
If its really cold I use my Rukka down jacket on top of these .
Rukka Nivala Jacket ,and pants(with down liner) .
RTS Gortex boots with  long Merino socks,Dainese Gortex travel Gloves .
Shoei GT Air 2 Helmet .
This outfit has kept me warm and dry over the Alps and 3 British winters.
It did cost a lot but with a 6 year w'tee on the Rukka and Lifetime on Gortex  from leaking I guess its a good investment.
And they say a warm ridder is a safe rider!

Blimey, your riding gear costs more than my bike. All good choices but out of my league.

tried out me new gerbing pro underjacket today, just had a t shirt on underneath and bike jacket on top and was warm and toasty. Did 90 miles (50 on the motorway at 90mph steady) with it set halfway at setting three(goes up to five). also have heatd grips and handguards, but only needed them on slightly as with me core temperature being high  heat wasn't getting pulled from me extremities, so hands and feet were warm too. expensive, but worth every penny imho. pack down nice and small too. cant wait for me and daves spring excursion into France; on the last one I got berluddy cold on the early morning run up through to the ferry. best thing was being warm and cosy I was firing on all cylinders and had a right good ride on the thou. bugger that is a brilliant bike. :)

The GT air 2 seems a popular choice.
Got some  Rokker revoloutions , Halvarssons clives and Sidi Vertigos for Christmas.
Also bought a Dainese leather jacket for when it gets a bit warmer .

As Spring approaches the thought of buying a winter waterproof suit are no doubt far away. But, anyone in the market for one or next Autumn, should have a look at the Bering Balistik, a 3 layer laminate suit with a 3 year warranty for £570. The laminate might not be Goretex, but then neither is my Halvarssons which keeps me bone dry and is only 2 layer. In times when a Rukka Nivala suit is around the £2k mark, the Bering must be a good headsup for anyone needing a new suit.
