FZ6 / Fazer / Re: Installing Power Commander III on an FZ6
« on: 03 January 2013, 09:33:35 pm »
Excellent review of installing it and that has decided me...... I will stick with stock or get the mewchanic to do it!!  :'(

My brother in law fitted one to his blade and then had it Dyno'd and got the fuelling just right and noticed a hell of a difference

My only gripe with the FZ6 is that if I go into a corner on a closed throttle i get a jerk as I open the throttle half way through the bend- other than that (I have the 2009 improved fuelling apperently) I am happy with the fuelling in town and ....... making progress  ;)

How did the power commander installation go? Did you have it dyno'd afterwards or did it work out of the box?

Is there a setting that stops the annoying jump off a closed throttle?  :eek

That sounds like a good days ride!

We did Scotland from Wales up there in one day- drove a round a bit for a couple of days and then back down to Wales A Friday to Monday jaint and I think I did about 200 miles- I was fine.... the Mille and the R1 drivers were suffering a bit though!

My mate and I were both enrolled on a first bike on the scene course next month but he came off last Sunday and broke his neck  :eek

He broke the peg of vertibrae 2 but was lucky- the specialist told his wife 90% of the time he is talking to the widow.

He is at home now after a week and in a neck brace for three months but he got off lightly- oh he also bruised his thumb! :rolleyes

More than ever going to do the course next month now!- you never know!

Bob Heath visor spray on the inside sure works- I was out this morning in freezi9ng fog and icey roads and not a hint of steamed up visor.

Unfortunately, my Nitro visor leaks water down behind when it rains and that instantly washes the Bob Heath stuff off in stripes

Now I have fixed the fog maybe I will tape up the visor when it rains

FZ6 / Fazer / Re: 2003 vs 2004 model

I had a '51 square headlight FZS600 and thought that was brilliant but looked a bit dated. I preferred the look of the 2003 bike which got the R6 cowling but the bike was otherwise the same. It was as fast as I wanted to go and comfortable- I toured Scotland twice on it

Two years ago I changed up for a 2009 FZ6S2 the black engine one with the improved fuelling (so say) I love the bike and it is brilliant to ride but I have had a few problems with it- The ECU died etc but I am bonding with it again now.

Only criticism I have is that going into a corner on a closed throttle the takeup is jerky always.... but then you are supposed to go into a corner on a positive throttle so that is really my bad riding habits

People criticise the FZ6 for being a revvy engine hungry for high revs- and so it is compared to the old Thundercat and carbs but that is fine and you soon get used to where the power band is and ride accordingly- no-one criticises an R6 for being a high revving engine do they so think of it as a comfortable R6 and you have the bike

Mostly I am above 6k revs and up to about 10- sledom need to go above that and that is really as fast as I would want to go  ;) in the lower gears About 6k is 70 in top so no buzzy vibration problems

Talking of rainy season... I was lucky enough to be in Portugal last week and went to Portomao for the WSB round and we had flooding on the track and thinder and lightning before the racing could start I was OK up in the grandstand in the dry

No matter how many times you watch a race on the TV there is nothing like being there and hearing the noise echo off the pit lane and grandstand walls

« on: 26 September 2012, 09:53:56 am »
Just a quick update

My ECU failed on my FZ6S2 due to corrosion on the pins with a £600 price tag for an OEM virgin Yamaha replacement

Those nice guys at motomatric.co.uk sold be a second hand ECU that they had fettled to be a virgin ECU and just heard from the bike shop that it is working and my bike is back on the road for £170!  :)

Who's a happy bunny then!

I have signed it

Around here (mid Wales) you can take a pass+ lesson so that your instructor will take you to a dual carriageway and show you the ropes as there are none around here. I think that should be compulsory and the 'P' plate indicating that you passed recently so we can all see who you are.

I see the arguments above about insurance being a limiting factor but as I feel that further training for bikers (bikesafe, IAM, ROSPA) should be compulsory for bikers- for their own safety, I think the same should apply to new drivers- I say new as not all drivers who just passed their test are 17- my wife didnt pass her test till she was about 40

I think some of the problem might be (for youngsters) that their artillery barrel exhaust on a Corsa and sound system up full and arm out the window means they are not concentrating on the road and cant here other road users.... now a limit on overall noise (sound and exhaust) like bikers are limited- would be a good cause
