For Sale & Wanted / selling my FZS600
« on: 29 September 2020, 04:47:27 pm »
I'm selling my Fazer due to wanting a bigger bike.

I've put it up on Ebay for £1150. I'll knock another £50 off for a focer :)

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/203121787006

I found out subsequently that the bike is Cat D, although that doesnt really bother me. The previous owner says he was unaware, and based on how much he has spent on the bike, im tending to believe him, however I couldnt sell the bike without disclosing it. Unfortunately it means I'll be taking a heavy loss, but think £1150 is fair, what do you think?

Dean

PS Mods apologies if this isn't allowed.

FZS600 Fazer / FZS600 Speedometer Sender??
« on: 01 August 2020, 09:52:15 am »
I went for the first ride on my Fazer since I fixed the damaged LCD odometer display. The odometer display works correctly, but the odometer mileage is not increasing. Are there separate inputs/senders for the speedometer/odometer or is it a combined unit? The speedo is working fine. If anyone can point me in the direction of the pinouts that would be great.

Quick update, turned the fuel tap off, started it up but it keeps idling. Left it for about 4 minutes and was still going. Tried exercising it a few times but it looks like the valve isnt working,

Where is the best place to order a replacement one?

Thanks. Its my first bike so wasnt sure. If i turn the fuel tap off im guessing it will still vent? Wife doesnt like the smell!

FZS600 Fazer / Fuel smell
« on: 12 July 2020, 10:29:34 pm »
I've got my bike stored temporarily in my conservatory as I had to take the fairing off and work on the instrument cluster to fix the faulty LCD odometer display (all sorted now).

There is a definite smell of fuel. There are no fuel leaks or anything showing on the bike, its completely dry.

After I fixed the odometer I started it to check the tacho function and it backfired. I had turned the ignition on and off quite a few times whilst I was fault finding on the instruments. Assuming the ticking noise when you turn it on is the fuel pump, so maybe just overfuelling?

The fuel smell was there before I did the work on it though.

So anything to worry about?

Thanks. Yeah was thinking of buying a whole replacement unit but just swap out the good LCD for the bad, unless I can just pop the entire unit in and it still remembers the mileage?

Just the LCD, speedometer is fine.

This is the odometer LCD module that is damaged on my bike. I am assuming the mileage is stored within the odometer assembly.

I'm handy with a soldering iron/electronics so was thinking of buying a replacement speedometer assembly, desoldering the lcd unit and then swapping it out with my bad one. Anyone done this? Is the speedo unit easy to strip down?

If you have a unit going cheap, let me know.

Not sure of the wheel colour, but it has had a ground up restoration and is immaculate. Better than the Gold one I was looking at :)

Only issue is the odometer is buggered, LCD is damaged.

« on: 03 July 2020, 02:48:12 pm »
Its not that I need a keeper, and I'll probably progress fairly quickly to a newer/faster bike, however I don't want to ride around on a piece of tat. I take pride in the things I own, and like them to be "right".

Went to view it today and had a quick ride on it (private road). I can see why people like them :) The front brakes are awesome.

Spoke to the guy who did the engine work and it has had a full service of the carburettors including ultrasonic cleaning, new seals, air filter, balancing of jets, cleaning fuel lines etc plus the MOT (no advisories). It runs perfectly.

By my reckoning it needs at least the following:-

Tyres front and back (manufactured 2008). They look in good condition, thoughts?
Oil Change
Oil Filter
Spark Plugs
Swingarm regreased
Steering head bearings regreased
Brake fluid change plus master cylinder seals
Age of some of the brake lines etc. are probably questionable

Chain is on exactly 150mm, brakes are fine.

It does have the centre stand on it :)

He still wants £1400 for it. Also said he will provide a warranty if anything breaks.

I'm torn as it does run very well, but it is a bit tatty. More cosmetic, the underlying mechanics plus the low mileage are positives. The black paint is coming of in parts on the front wheel, plus scratches on rear of bike (see photo). Front forks could also do with being tidied up (see photo).

Maybe I should just spend more on my first bike? Anyone got a mint FZS600 they want to sell me?

That's a good point about prices. I've been keeping an eye on FZS600 prices the past couple of months and most of the ones at the lower price havent been great. Good ones seem to have been advertised nearer to £2k.

Maybe it's the time of year plus people wanting cheaper transport maybe???

Hmm, good point. Hadn't noticed the centre stand was missing. I'm guessing if it's not there, he doesn't have it.

FZS600 Fazer / FZS600 Update
« on: 02 July 2020, 12:23:59 pm »
So I posted a few months ago about getting an FZS600. Coronavirus has got in the way of everything including my bike test, but I do have an update on the bike.

Due to lockdown I haven't seen the bike yet. Off to view it tomorrow. It was finally MOTd yesterday with no advisories. It has had a service including ultrasonic carb clean/new rubbers. Friend paid £350 for this, so he is now asking £1400 for the bike (was £1150 originally).

I'll get some better photos taken tomorrow, but here is an old one of it.

I rechecked the MOT history and he got it MOTd last year, but it only shows 70 miles difference from 2011 until last years MOT which expires on 5th Feb. I'm guessing this doesnt make much difference and comments ref price still stand?

To be honest I was only buying it as its my friends bike, and he was happy to keep it for me until I passed my test. Seems like theres a lot of love for the FZS600 on here and another friend had one as his first bike and thought it was ace. Im happy to spend money on the bike, although I know I wont necessarily get it back.

BTW I maybe a new rider, but ive just gone the wrong side of 50, so have a sensible(ish) attitude to learning and welcome any suggestions.

Money isnt really an issue, but thought having something like this for my first year riding would be a good idea.

Budget wise id be happy to spend 5-6K on a new bike if it was going to be a keeper, however im guessing whats suitable now may not be suitable once Ive got more experience.

Thanks Arfa very comprehensive, just what I needed and no, it didnt scare me off. Id already budgeted for new tyres and a rear shock as a minimum plus probably a chain. Ive had a look at the MOT history and its sat unused for the last 7 years since he bought it from a friend. Hes a bit of a hoarder and he has a lot of classic cars and motorbikes.

He is asking £1100 for it, does that seem reasonable?

Also, can you fit heated grips easily enough?

Thanks for the info, much appreciated. The downpipes are black, but these could be aftermarket/upgraded. I'll have a proper look when I go to collect it and check the chassis code.

Looking forward to riding it, I've only been on a CG125 so far :)
