I have now managed to get a 2nd hand pc5 from an R1 but I am unsure about one thing. In the instructions for the R1 there is a single grey wire that is to be attached to the number 5 wire in the ecu. What I want to know is this the same on the FZ1?
Has anybody fitted a pc5 from an R1 or has anybody fitted a pc5 meant for an FZ1 and it has the same grey wire to the ecu?
I am wary about connecting it just in case I make a balls up!

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / power comander 3
« on: 18 June 2014, 01:10:11 pm »
I am looking at buying a second hand pc3 but there is no software disc or usb cable with it. I assume I could just get an usb cable from maplins that would do the job so not too bothered about that. Is the software disc  necessary? Also do I need to disable the O2 sensor?
I am not bothered about fitting instructions as I found a youtube vid that showed how to do it but would I need the instructions to show me how to download a map for it and set it up correctly.
Or am I just better off splurging 3 times the cost of the second hand one and buying a new one?
Any help or advice would be appreciated.

General / Crash bungs or engine bars?
« on: 06 June 2014, 03:01:02 pm »
Which do you think work best? The bungs look better but would the bars give more protection, and I suppose the type of `off` could affect each one differently. The reason I don`t know which to get is I can get engine bars for only about £20 more than bungs but as I have never `tested` either I do not know which to get.
Has anyone got any real world feedback about how effective either of them is?

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / FZ1 cat in downpipes
« on: 05 June 2014, 08:08:46 pm »
I have now put an aftermarket can on but have left the cat in the downpipes for now. Is there any advantage in removing it that is worthhile? Also do you get an increase in noise level if you remove the cat?

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / My FZ1
« on: 30 May 2014, 03:28:31 pm »
A picture of my 2007 FZ1, less than 10,000 miles, totally standard. Just done 120 miles on it and very happy with it. Even my wifes pet rabbits seem to like it! ( Thats assuming the pictures have uploaded ok. )
So now I need an exhaust for it, but I am unsure about how one would fit as the only joint in the original is in front of the exup. So this might be a bit of a noob question but how do the aftermarket ones fit?

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / ignition switch
« on: 18 May 2014, 01:04:55 pm »
Is it possible to easily repair the ignition switch on a 2001 gen 1? Mine is knackered, works when it feels like and if you just touch the key the engine cuts out.

Fazer8 / FZ8 / Fazer 1000 to Fazer8?
« on: 05 May 2014, 08:51:54 pm »
I am seriously thinking about trading in my gen 1 fazer 1000, which i have had for six years, for a fazer8.
Has anyone else done this? Any real regrets? Will i miss the power of the 1000?

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Engine cutting out under hard acceleration.
« on: 20 April 2014, 01:23:06 pm »
I had previously posted about a misfire under hard acceleration on my gen1. I did all the suggestions offered to cure it such as draining float bowls, cutting 1/2" off ht cables and checking air filter was clear. The problem disappeared for a few weeks but now the engine is cutting out under hard acceleration. The engine will restart immediately afterwards on the button and runs perfectly the rest of the time. Anybody have any idea what could be the cause?

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Exup valve needs adjusting?
« on: 10 March 2014, 11:01:03 am »
If I accelerate hard once I hit about 9000 revs the engine misfires really badly and I have to back off, its ls very pronounced misfire.
I have changed the fuel filter but it made no difference. If I accelerate normally there is no misfire.
Am I right in thinking that my exup valve needs adjusting?

General / act20 camera placement.
« on: 19 July 2013, 04:20:11 pm »
I have just bought one of these to replace my old action camera that decided to work only when it felt like it,( takes after its owner).
The old camera was fitted to the handlebars centrally above the top yoke but when i fit the act20 in the same place it is too low and all you can see is the clocks.
I have thought about fitting it underneath the front fairing but i am doubtful about using velcro to keep it in place, or strapping it to my helmet but i would prefer it fixed to bike.
Where have you guys that use fitted yours?

General / Heated grips now in the bin!
« on: 27 May 2013, 05:49:36 pm »
Which is exactly where they belong.
I bought Oxford ones 2 years ago because I didn`t want to wear thick winter gloves any more but the first controller lasted just a year and I replaced it.
This weekend the controller went again and would not switch off, I had to remove the fuse to cut the power.I am not going to pay another £30 again for crappy switches that don`t last.
Anyway has anyone tried heated gloves? My hands get cold even when the weather is not that cold.

I was cleaning my gen1 today and found this,(see photos), anyone else had this happen?
I have a small Givi box mounted on it and I think the heaviest thing thats ever been in it is my packup for work!( Do I need to go on a diet?)

I am going to see if I can get it welded at work on Wednesday.

General / Failed MOT!
« on: 09 April 2013, 07:36:54 pm »
My Gen1 1000 failed its MOT today because on full lock the handguards, ( the ones that are meant for a V Strom), touched the screen by a minute amount. To get it to pass I removed them while the MOT guy waited. So if you have any handguards fitted just check they do not foul.
The MOT guy said most bikes he fails are for aftermarket parts such as exhausts and lights.

General / led brake light in top box.
« on: 24 March 2013, 08:00:36 pm »
Has anyone fitted led lights in their top box as extra brake lights?
I want to fit some but don`t know what is the correct way to wire them in, such as do I need a resistor or not?

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / How tight is hand tight?
« on: 20 March 2013, 11:43:50 am »
I changed my oil and filter yesterday and was just wondering how do you know the oil filter is on tight enough when you just do it up hand tight. How tight is it meant to be? What I consider hand tight is going to be different from other people. I am always slightly paranoid afterwards that it is too loose and will lose oil or that it is too tight and has deformed and will leak. I use work gloves that give a good grip, any one else have any other method that they use?

General / camera placement
« on: 14 March 2013, 08:19:50 pm »
I have been given an onboard camera with various brackets and straps to fasten it to the bike.I know there are some on this forum using them regularly and was wondering where is the best place to put it on the front of a gen1 1000 to get the best angle or footage.

General / Please read this warning
« on: 03 March 2013, 06:51:38 pm »
Yesterday my yahoo email account was hacked from someone in Morroco, they have been sending random emails to people in my contacts list so if you receive any emails from me  that look in any way suspicious please delete them immediately. One member has already received one so be careful.
I have taken the recommended steps from Yahoo to re-secure my account but I would advise anyone to make sure their password is very secure and to change it on a regular basis. I know it is a ballache but my own complacency has resulted in my email being hacked so it could happen to you as well.

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / ais
« on: 09 November 2012, 07:40:20 pm »
I am going to remove my ais system at long last. I have a new set of M8 taps and 4 stainless bolts to cap off the exhaust ports but I don`t know what size plastic caps I need for blocking off the other outlets.
Does anyone know what size I need or is there another way of blocking them off neatly?

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / alarm removal
« on: 05 September 2012, 07:23:12 pm »
Has anyone removed a meta alarm from a gen 1?
Mine has failed completely and for the first time in over 4 years of ownership i had to get the AA to bring me home.
I am tempted to just cut every wire but i know this will make things worse.
Every wire is plain black and when i try to trace them they just seem to go deeper into the wiring loom.
Looking at some of them I cannot even see how they got access to the wires.

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / carb balancing!
« on: 05 August 2012, 07:36:38 pm »
I was given a carb balancer a few months back for free, one of the older type with dials,so i decided today to balance the carbs.Everything was easy to do but locating the adjuster screw for the carbs on the left hand side was a nightmare,I literally spent ten minutes looking for it using a decent torch!I had looked at the pictures on Pats motorcycle page but still found it difficult to locate.
Now I `ve managed I`m happy with the results, the tickover is smoother and the engine seems to be smoother at low revs now.
Has anyone found an easy way to locate the screws? I was going to put a dab of white paint on them but I didn`t have a brush small enough or long enough to reach,I had enough trouble finding a screwdriver that would reach.

General / mce insurance
« on: 05 June 2012, 03:25:55 pm »
I`ve been getting insurance quotes for my gen1 1000 as its due in a couple of weeks and so far the cheapest is MCE. They have quoted £127 fully comp including breakdown cover. Does anyone know who MCE use as their breakdown and is it any good?

General / never again!
« on: 17 December 2011, 01:12:46 pm »
Never again will I use a dealer again!
Went to Jordans bikes for some new spark plugs , (ngk cr9e), for my gen1 1000 and they charged me £33.96 for 4.I am going to fit them tomorrow so I bought them even though I could get them off ebay for £10 less. I know dealers have overheads that ebay sellers don`t have but unless they start to compete more on price there won`t be any dealers in business in a few years.
