hadta fit my old oxford heated grips and repair a bodge so thought id widen the bars a tad whilst i was at it to seeme through until i decide whether to fit 758s or not. bodge was a previous owner had snapped off the locating lug in the throttle, and used emery tape clamped in to stop it twisting, though this was moving. so first job was to drill out switch body, turn down a delrin plug, drill switch body, glue in plug, then drill out centre and insert other end of drill and cut off inside to make belt and braces repair.

fatbars removed from new ktm. 672 bend, pre filled at factory with anti vibe silicone. as new and straight....bar mounts..polished alu with stainless bespoke cap heads, designed to fit straight into existing bar mounts utilising oe bolts. bar ends are stainless expanding type (high quality, heavy, expensive) taken down on lathe to fit fatbar internal diameters. look absolutely pukka fitted, but i prefer the less sporty position of the standard bars so stuck with them, albeit widened. everything as good as new and ready to fit, ktm bars undrilled and uncut £90 posted all in

anybody tried 652 bend fatbars? ive acquired a set from a new ktm, found some old converter risers (ive had kicking about for over ten years!), and some stainless bar ends i can take down on me lathe to fit. really want 758s, but i love the look of the fatties just think they may be a bit more sporty than comfy (my lairy days are long gone lol), but will prolly try em one evening this week. had fatbar ultra lows on my cb1300 for 5 years and 17000miles, loved them, but not sure if these are the same.

thats struck me several times in recent years mate. rd250bs, rd400s, gt380s etc seemed like big bikes back in the day. my rd250C " coffin" tank seemed 'normous! you look at them now they all seem tiny. and as for rear tyres on seventies bikes, bloody hell....

is that luvverly motah still strong with plenty of miles onnit? mines done 46k (just run in? ) and still feels sweet as nut, i know blade motors from the same era wear incredibly well, wondering if the detuned r1 lumps we have fare as well over time and miles? atb paul

aint it the truth mate,.at the end of the group test we sat in a cafe talking about the bikes..every single one of us rated the "old" fazer above the others(including the "mcn bike of the year "multistrada). and whilst im just a brickie who gets to ride with them every now and then the other three were "proper"..respectively the road test editor (si hargreaves) racer and trackday tutor (pete boast) and complete nutter/stunter (kev smith)..all topriders with a wealth of experience. and all of us to a man loved that old fazer.. it reminds me (bizarrely) of my first decent bike back in '78 after passing me test..an rd400. no idea why, apart from they are both blue and both yams. think it must be the fun i had on the stroker, and the fun to be had on the thou, and whilst the fazer is obviously a lot quicker the rd would have felt just as quick to me back then. its just a great bike innit, and destined to become a future classic.

ive been lucky enough to road test many, many bikes over a good few years. a year or so ago did a group test on "old" all rounders against a new multistrada. there was a gen 1 fazer included, and i couldnt believe how good it was. hence i have one now. trust me on this mate, there honestly are very, very few bikes to beat it, in real motorcycling terms. the zzr14s a good un though, like the man said. on another test i got to ride an early one from calais to morrocco in 24 hours..that was some adventure, and some bike. fazer still beats it for vfm though, imho
