FZS600 Fazer / pulling away issue on mk1 fazer
« on: 01 September 2016, 12:54:28 pm »
Frustrated!
Fazer 600 with an issue pulling away.
As you pull off the revs rise smoothly to approx 2500 - 3000 then drop like a stone to 500 then slip clutch to stop stall and she pulls fine. Bike rides like a dream. Tps set per manual. Carbs ballanced. Full service with plugs gapped. Clean air filter (KnN), oil and filter changed.

Bike was stood for a while so I'm now thinking gunked up pilot yet? Seems to be about where it swaps from pilot to main I think.

The carb balance did make it better, it's less agressive when it happens but it's still there.
Grrr

For Sale & Wanted / Nitron rear shock for fzs 1000 sold stc
« on: 14 May 2016, 09:48:42 pm »
Now up on eBay.
Nitron race shock. High and low speed compression damping, rebound damping, preload and hight adjustment.
All works as it should and serviced every 2 years.
Stunning but of kit, set for 21 stone rider for track and fast road use. If your under 14 stone in kit will likely need a softer spring.

£320 ono on eBay

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Nitron rear shock
« on: 08 May 2016, 10:41:08 am »
Now that sadly the Fazer is sold I have the nitron shock but not sure on 2nd hand prices for shocks. Its the full race spec nitron with full high and low speed adjustment on damping and rebound. Aprox £700 New
Was serviced last spring by nitron.
Set up for a 20 Stone rider fast road use but can slacker the preload off to probably 15 stone. Might be a bit stiff for any lower than that without a respring.
Great condition. Will take pics later
I just have no idea on what they go for 2nd hand.
Am I far off the mark at £300 on eBay?

Also have 3 screens I will take pics later.
1 short street fighter look
Think 1 original and 1 flip

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / years of wheelies finally caught up with me
« on: 08 April 2016, 10:01:22 pm »
We all know the Fazer likes to lift it's front a little from time to time ;-)
Well I noticed a slight knocking feeling from the front when dabbing the front brake on and off a few times quickly.couldn't get it to do it on centre stand and smooth movement left and right.
So to be safe I dropped it to a friend with a mot rolling road thing.

Yup you could feel the bottom of the stock move a little each time the brake was applied.

Booked in for next week as I hate the idea of doing them lol

Now bearings seem to be about £25 a set including seal. Tappered all balls or koyo
Local spanner said £65 for the job. Supply and fit

So is this an hours job?  I figured it was bigger than that. Not complaining but that seemed very reasonable?

For Sale & Wanted / 2004 Fazer 1000. now sold
« on: 22 February 2016, 03:46:36 pm »
Well i have had my fazer for almost 9 years now, much of that time i have spent on and off this site (mostly off for last few years) but it is time to sell. will be very sad to see it go, still belive its the best all rounder ever made but cant afford to run 2 bikes and my truck so something has to go. as i want to focus on track days for a bit the ZX9r will be staying and the fazer needs a new home.

most on here will know the fazer so i will skip to the important bits lol.

Fazer 1000 2004 in silver with black engine (best colour combo :P )
will post pics later when i get a chance but no doubt there are old ones knocking around here till then if your interested or just search Gumtree for it as its listed there in TA81QJ area
bike is mechanicly perfect, Exup serviced at least once a year and often 2-3 times for luck lol. new chain and sprockets last year and recent tyres to. battery is the Gel type (holds charge trough winter better).

Only real marks are on nose cone a scuff (cosmetic write off with scuff and broken mudguard) and a slight tear in seat where the join is at the front.
everything else is just age related , but it is in pretty good nic  :D

mods.... the list is long and i am sure i will forget some. most have been recommended here anyway lol

Full monty fitted by Mike with Air box mod
Blue Flame exhaust (twin port oval)
4 deg ignition advancer (plus original if wanted)
front forks had a full Ktec workover on internals
rear shock is currently full spec Nitron track but will be coming with the OE shock fitted not the Nitron as i will be selling that speratlely. the OE shock is very low miles as i put the Nitron on at the start of my ownership and has been serviced by nitron 3 times since then (i normally fully service it every 3 years)
new exup cables last year
fuzzy mirror mod
AIS removed
rear hugger fitted
yamaha belly pan and crash bungs
double bubble screen (can come with a street fighter cut down screen if wanted)
KnN filter with refresh kit
renthal bars
upgraded clutch springs
R1 gear leaver mod
speedo healer fitted
forks dropped 10mm
rear jacked 20mm
shorty leavers in black
stainless rad cover
givi top box and rack but may decide to put back on the grab rails and sell sepratley not sure yet.
i'm sure i have some spare knocking around to like oil filter and a few parts

now i'm sure i have forgotten some stuff but that covers the bulk of it i think

the bike is based in Burnham on sea somerset
has MOT till 9th july 2016
i'm asking £2050 ono. but this will not include the Nitron shock

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Exup cables
« on: 08 June 2014, 01:19:39 am »
The time seems to have finally arrived :( while servicing the Exup a few days back I noticed the pull cable was frayed. I would say about a 1/3 worn away.
Anyone found a good place to get them yet that isn't going to take triple didgets?

For Sale & Wanted / wanted standard mk1 600 dog bones
« on: 15 May 2014, 09:13:29 pm »

Anyone got a cheap set knocking about in a shed?

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / speedo down
« on: 24 January 2014, 12:16:46 am »
Speedo seems to have died :(
Not had a chance to have a good poke around yet but did check the connection blocks behind the screen. All look fine, but cleaned them best I could anyway.
Fault is no speedo and the clock resets each time ignition is off.
Fully charged battery and It's in good condition. That's as far as I have got so far.

I have a speedo healer fitted, due to gearing change.
Also a acumen gear indicator. (Make no change when unplugged. Lights up but as it runs partly from speedo not working)
So what blocks to check next?
Think there was one under the right side panel, any more?

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / spark plugs blowing
« on: 30 September 2013, 11:15:32 pm »
In the last year or so I have had the outside 2 plugs come lose a few times.
They seem to go about 1000-1500 miles ish then I start hearing a little puff piff sort of sound.
Often able to see the cap rattling as well.

When checking they have worked out about half way. Left more often than the right but both do it.
Tried torque settings, tried the normal finger tight + 1/4 and tried very tight lol
Thread from what I can see looks good condition. Plugs have been swapped out twice with new ones and also tried swapping middle ones to outside ones. Nothing makes a diff, about 1000 miles later It's lose again.

So, I don't want to use a thread lock as it probably isn't a good idea on plugs. But anyone have ideas on how to stop it?
Not the end of the world, takes 5 mins to sort each time. But can't be good when its lose

General / MOT question
« on: 29 June 2013, 10:28:30 pm »
Playing with a beat up Zx6r and gunna try a mot on it.
Done pretty much all the mot work now apart from its front mudguard is smashed.
Now with the 1998 Zx6r the front fairing hangs a long way over the wheel.
Is a front mudguard a must for mot (got one on way but will be a week or so) or can I get away with out it.

General / new toy...
« on: 22 June 2013, 09:28:17 pm »
Had the gen1 for many years now and by far the best alrounder I have ever owned. By miles.

But I have an itch..... I used to swap bikes every few months, almost never made it a full year untll the fazer.

So I brought a clapt out gsx600f played with it a bit, got it through a mot and had fun doing it. But it never floated my boat. So that is being sold and ......

Say hello to my new project salvage LOL
A 1998 ZX6r very poor state of repair so plan is mot or if that looks to costly then track bike. (the original plan for the Gsx600f but it wasn't up to it)

Will post pics once I get out to look at it in daylight.

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / exup.....
« on: 15 June 2013, 08:19:06 pm »
No, not a knackered one for a change :)
Serviced mine yesterday and everything came out with ease thx to the copper slip and spring washers.
But I did notice to things that may cause issues later.
Top cable has very slight fraying as it enters the outer cover
But what caught my eye was the end plate and just how worn its starting to get.
Works 100% no rattle, squeak or anything but really starting to grove the end plate as per pic.

Anyone else noticed thier plate doing it to?

General / max voltage
« on: 14 May 2013, 07:58:02 pm »
Lost a load of electric bit on the Gsx600f yesterday. Lost indicators, horn, brake light, all the dash lights and rev counter. Plus the fuel gauge was reading 1/4 now reads almost full.
Not had much chance to have a good look yet, even to check the fuses I have to strip off half the panels.
But I did run a volt meter on the battery with engine running, at 5k manual say it needs a min of xxx volts but don't give me a max. It's putting out 14.7 v which seems a little high?

I checked the manual and for all the above to be effected would meen 3 fuses blown at same time so I'm thinking more reg/rect

Will look deeper once I get a day off but just wanted to know if there should be a max volt from the charging system.

General / springs
« on: 01 May 2013, 10:02:20 pm »
Non fazer but allways worth a shot with the knowledge pool we have here.

I have a H Reg GSX 600 f katana.
Was in a garden un covered for 3 years, I brought it and played with it a bit over winter. Passed an mot today but still has a few issues. Main 1 is poor running missfire and poor tickover.

But once I sort that I want to take a look at very cheaply getting the suspension working. Front springs are shot and rear ain't far off.
If I go hyper pro I'm looking at 200 for front and rear kits.
Gota be cheaper springs around. Anyone recomend a place for them? Linier I would prefer and stronger than std.
Not had much luck on owner clubs for it as all I have been to so far are inactive.
Shame as I'm sure there is a shock that's a straight swap if you know what to look for. Like maybe the Gsx 750 f rear or some such.

Shoe string budget as its a real ratty bike.

General / Dot 5.1
« on: 11 April 2013, 12:00:23 am »
As allways there is a lot of conflicting advice on the net.
I have decided to change my front fluid to 5.1 as last track day I did I had a couple of brake fade "moments" LOL
Some say to drain and flush the system and others say just feed in the 5.1 untill it comes out the bleed nipple.

If I try to drain it will be a pain to bleed again (front on the gen 1 allways is)  and I doubt it will fully drain anyway. If I flush it what do I flush it with?  And if I just feed in 5.1 untill that comes out will the slight mix of 4.0 that will happen make any odds?
Feeding in seems the simplest way by far as long as I make sure it pushes plenty through.

Anyone know a bit more about it?
Only reason I'm changing is the track day next week. The fluid in there is 4 and less than 18 months old but did fade 2-3 times last track day. Never had fade on road at all.

General / brain fart
« on: 17 February 2013, 11:12:09 pm »
Had a bit of a brain fart while trying to refit the fuel tank to my Gsx600f
Had to replace it as the old one was rusty as hell.
Took pictures of most of the wires etc but have 2 pipes that for the life of me I can't work out where the go.

The 2 pipes I didn't disconnect from the bike so I know they are right on one end. But they seem to have marks  like they fit TO something .

Tank has 3 on the fuel tap and they are conected right. Has 2 overflow/breathers and they are conected and a thicker pipe so its not that. And no conections left on tank
Could just be carb breathers or overflow and that would be my thought if it wasn't for the indents from where a clip has been at some point.

General / locks
« on: 03 February 2013, 12:19:07 am »
In the market for a new lock for the bike. At home its in a garage now with a ground anchor. And the garage is locked but only with the normal garage lock and a floor bolt and padlock.

But while out and about I used to have the data tool uno immobilizer and a cheapish bike it disc lock.
Now the data tool is no more and the bike it disc lock is worn and was crap to start with :P

So in the market for a new lock. Needs to be easy to carry and easy to accses. So I am thinking disc lock again. But maybe something a bit better than the last one that can be broken in 2 by droping it from a hight not much greater than the top box LOL.

Oxford boss seems to get ok reviews and is a sensible price, they do normal and an alarm version.
About 50 or 70 give or take a tenner from what I have seen.
There is also the oxford screamer that's cheap and alarmed.
But I prefer the boss as it doubles up as a chain lock to if needed.

What do you guys use? Recomend? Are the alarm ones any use?  Do you get bigger discounts on them than the non alarm ones with insurance etc
Lots of cheap tat around that I want to avoid but don't want to spend a huge amount either.

General / immobiliser trouble
« on: 25 January 2013, 09:02:07 pm »
Was on way home tonight from work and stopped in to get some fuel. went to start the bike and nothing.
Now bike has had a datatool system immobiliser fitted. i am not 100% sure which one but i THINK its the datatool duo one. it has the tab type key and a small disc/pad to touch it against

not had any real problems with it before (though did think it was draining battery last year but turned out it wasnt the main drain.)
on occasion it has needed to be touched 2 or 3 times to work but normaly just when dirty and a quick clean solves it.
a few months ago the beeper / buzzer part stopped working but it didnt stop it from working but tonight no matter what i tried it just wouldnt start.
tried for a good 30 mins with cleaning, spraying with wd40, twisting, rubbing and swearing all to no avail lol

so pushed it the 1/2 mile home (glad i filled up near home not at work 20 odd miles away) stuck it in the garage and thought i would try just once more. and you gussed it, it started lol but turned it off and on again and now wont again.

Anyone know how hard it is to bypass them? the black box for it is under the seat but as expected everything is black wired and loomed.
with my pickup fooked and now the bike playing up getting to work tomorrow at 7am might be an issue :(

General / New toy project!
« on: 30 December 2012, 10:21:39 pm »
Brought myself a toy now that i have a garage to play with :)

Been stuck in a shed for 2 years then a garden for a year or so.
I thought it was bad but now i have started taking bits off its a lot worse than i thought heheh
never had a project before really other than a trike. so the idea is basicly to get it running and either use it for fun at the local airfield or maybe if i want a lot of punishment then get it mot'd

pictures make it look MUCH better than it is :P most of the electrics are rotted or held together with block conectors and the paint is screwed, fairing cracked and tank leaks like a tea bag :) (didnt know that till i filled it up)
