FZ1 gen 2 - ignition coil meter readings
« on: 28 July 2016, 06:01:29 pm »
Guys
can you help:
Need the metre ohm readings for the Gen 2 coils - I think I have an intermittent misfire and suspect one of the coils is on the way out.

So for the LV side - one range of readings for acceptable.

Ditto for the HV side.

Many thanks

Harvey

Primary is 1.19 to 1.61 and secondary is 8.5 to 11.5.
A few months ago l was suddenly running on 3 cylinders and found one of my coils was low, changed it and no problems since.
Was going to change all 4 until l saw the price.
Bought mine from Scooters-and-bikes on their Ebay site 261583; hell of a lot cheaper than Yamaha.
Phoned them first to check it was the right one and they could not have been more helpful, when it arrived could not tell the difference from the original, except of course it was the correct ohms.

Hi Harvey

Many thanks for the info and readings.
Primary reading is between the two LT connections (obvious..)
But secondary is the plug connection and one of the LT terminals - have I got that right?

Also will check out the ebay guys you mentioned - saw something like £37-50 each which is quite  saving.

Thanks again

Hi Orlando

Yes that is correct.
When l checked my dud one the primary reading was good but the secondary was about 6 which was low enough to stop that cylinder from firing.
As it was great fun getting at them, or do l mean boring :z , l changed the plugs as well.
Cheers
