General / had an accident on my way to work this morning
« on: 19 September 2014, 10:40:12 am »
I was filtering past very slow moving traffic when a cage decides to do a u turn, anyway he hit my left foot and ankle, luckily I did manage to keep the bike upright, he did say he saw me coming but didn't have the sense to think I wouldn't be that long, luckily I have not broke any bones just a crush injury, my foot and knee is very swollen.
The police or ambulance service have managed to lose my keys doesn't help.
The damage to my bike is a left foot rest hanger, foot rest and gearlevee, there maybe some small damage to where the footrest hanger bikts to the frame.

General / One thing to watch out for after October 1st
« on: 08 September 2014, 03:42:47 pm »
I have just received my tax disc from dvla and on there it mentions about not needing to display a tax disc, the other thing it says is when you sell a vehicle the tax stops then, when you send off the log book you will get a refund, that means the new owner will need to tax the vehicle before using it, so now it is a waste of time and money taxing a vehicle as a sweetener if you are going to sell it.

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Vibration noise around the clocks area.
« on: 01 August 2014, 02:05:03 pm »
I have a vibration around the clocks at around 3k revs, this has been there ever since I have owned the bike, if I push onto the clocks the noise goes but tube clocks are tight with no exesive movement, and the bike is so smooth with virtually no noticeable vibration through the legs, seat, handlebars or tank. Is there anything that is common to cause this vibration noise?

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / My bike passed its mot, then
« on: 23 July 2014, 09:03:30 pm »
My key for my givi top box decides to break, and of course give don't do keys to order, luckily it happened with the lid open, I had a key cut from the 2 broken pieces, thankfully I managed to pluck the broken piece out, after taking the lock to pieces there was a raised ridge where the barrel turned causing the barrel to lock solid and the key was weak so breaking, and my spare key is missing, if anyone needs a key cut a silca BT2 blank is a good fit, I paid £3.60 and it takes up less space than the original which is a bonus.

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Fitting new brake hoses.
« on: 20 July 2014, 05:12:24 pm »
I have fitted new hoses all round on my bike, in the past it has taken hours even next day to bleed the brakes, a while a go I bought a vacuum bleeding kit (ideal for other things as well on the car) anyway it took minutes to get the fluid through, available on eBay http://m.ebay.co.uk/itm/201025017182?nav=SEARCH

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Oe brake disc question
« on: 16 July 2014, 06:53:16 pm »
Can anyone tell me why material the oe discs are made of, the reason is I have some new pads but they only work on stainless steel discs, as the Japanese stainless steel is low grade it is magnetic so that is not an easy way to tell.

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / My bike is poorly
« on: 14 July 2014, 08:12:23 pm »
Went to start my bike up last night and it has a misfire, to make it worse it was chucking petrol out of the carb over flows, so till I can have a look I dong have a bike on the road, what is annoying it was running perfectly on Friday, I didn't use the bike over the weekend.

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / linking carbs using the balance pipes
« on: 16 March 2014, 05:35:37 pm »
there is an article on pats site about linking the carbs using the balance pipes on the intakes, I have done this mod, at first I fitted the pipes linking 1-4 and 2-3, now I have done the link all 4 together, at first I used the 5mm t pieces from Halfords but as they are small I ordered some proper 5mm fuel pipe ones off eBay, they are off a vw. with the Halfords ones I had the vibration at 3k where using the vw ones the vibration virtually disappeared. I know one thing at 6k revs the front wheel comes way up under power where it never did before, I don't know if fazer thous do power wheely much, mine has never just a small one, so the question is after ivanising do the fazer pick up its front wheel more or are they not prone to big power wheelies?

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / More problems
« on: 15 March 2014, 09:46:11 am »
Managed to sort the alarm out yesterday and last night saw a puddle of water under the bike, it Looks like I have a leak of water coming from above the engine, dripping down to the rear then down between the generator and sprocket cover, so more work to do.

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / alarm question
« on: 08 March 2014, 10:57:55 am »
I have fitted the hawk alarm to my bike, but with it is a tilt sensor, in the instructions it says connect the black wire to a non permanent earth, only earth when the alarm is armed, with the blue going to the alarm and the red to power, there is no provision on the alarm for a switched earth, to make things even more confusing the wiring is actually red, black and white, the alarm instructions say connect the black to earth, red to power and blue to the alarm.
as someone had nicely cut the plugs and removed the wiring I had to find the wires and choose an alternative immobilisation place

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Still got a misfire
« on: 11 January 2014, 05:40:40 pm »
I have stripped the carbs 3 times and checked the coil leads and I still have a slight misfire, which I have narrowed down to cyl 1, my next task I think is have the rocker cover off and check the valve clearences, I would do a compression test but I don't have a 10mm adaptor.

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Carb needle spacers
« on: 17 November 2013, 10:54:43 pm »
As some of you the 03 bikes on have the same spacers under all of the needles, but yamaha do not sell the spacers on their own, you have to buy them with the needle, so has anyone on the 02 and earlier done this mod and has it made any difference? My bike has a running issue just over Tickover and it is I believe running weak which would cause my problem.

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Ignition lock question
« on: 16 October 2013, 12:02:42 pm »
As my barrel is getting very worn after 72k miles, the key can be pulled out with the ignition on, I know the 2003 on have a different switch, so I need to know can the switch part be swapped over? The reason I need to know is there are no 2001-2002 lock sets for sale but a few 2003 on lock seta.

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / fairing question
« on: 26 September 2013, 06:54:28 pm »
as you know the fazer thou fairing is not the best for protection, so has anyone managed to fit a better fairing off another bike or an aftermarket fairing? I don't want to get rid of the fazer for a better touring bike so would like a better fairing.

I have noticed since fitting a manual cam chain tensioner my bike vibes less, is that the case with most or is it just me.
now I have just got to fix the carburation problem, I have issues with carburation just over tick over, I have stripped the carbs twice and cleaned them including blowing them through with a compressor. the carbs are clean and the bike has not been stood up for a great length of time. the fact my bike has over 72k miles on it could the carbs be worn causing this? I don't want to spend money on an ivans kit if the faults is with the carbs
