General / Etiquette at Dartford Crossing
« on: 02 November 2022, 11:27:12 pm »
Hiya fellas,

Need some advice as I simply can't work this out.

Starting a new job soon and would probably need to use the Dartford crossing regularly. I know it's free for bikes to cross and know it's an easy filter tnrough the tailbacks.

Question is.......how the hell can you be expected to be let in to the manned booth for the crossings. It's not like going up the outside of traffic in London etc.

Do you just bully your way in and cause a row ??

Anyone use the crossing regularly and can advise of the best approach ?

Any advice as always is much appreciated

Cheers

General / Drink Driving Ban
« on: 01 September 2021, 06:32:26 pm »
Right, so today I've been banned for 12 months reduced to 9 (attend a course). I blew 41mg after going to fetch my son who was having a panic attack. I know there's no excuse for drink driving but when your lad is in trouble then that's all most people think about - just jumped in the car and went. Was caught due to a wanker Audi driver at a width restriction.....blew the N/S rear tyre then at the next roundabout there they were - no place to change tyre prior. Still no excuse I know.

The thing is, I have no other way to get to work so am seriously considering "chancing it" on the bike.

The question is......Does anyone know what the consequences are for driving whilst disqualified.

Please - no "Holier than thou" comments......I know drink driving is serious but sometimes a need to provide is strong. FYI - 38yrs with a clean licence.

As always, any advice is much appreciated.

Cheers

General / Puncture Kit - This Any Good ?
« on: 08 November 2018, 12:37:42 pm »
Hi fellas,

Finally decided to buy a new kit to replace my old mushroom type kit.

Seen this one below but have heard a lot on here talk about the Crafty Plugger kit which it seems i can only find the "strings" not the kit with tools.

So is the one below any good or if you can post up a link for the "Crafty Plugger KIT" it would be appreciated.

General / Any commuters who run Maxi Scooters
« on: 24 September 2017, 01:28:34 am »
Hiya fellasm

As per title as usual.

Had a few close calls in London recently following some cnut breaking my foot by squeezing me into the curb so looking at maybe picking up a 400 or 650 Burger with ABS - reason being my feet will be semi protected by the running boards of a scoot.

Handling not really an issue as it will get good rubber but just wondering how people find

a) Filtering ability/restrictions compared to say a Gen1 thou

b) Is a 90 mph m/way cruising speed viable

c) Servicing and reliability costs

D) Typical mpg

E) Better options than a Burger

Cheers in advance for any advice  :thumbup

General / Holiday Suggestion To Suit 10 & 12yr olds
« on: 11 June 2017, 09:39:53 pm »
Hiya fellas,

Bit of a weird request this one but need a few suggestions.

I fully appreciate I've left it a bit late so fully my fault.

Was looking to go to the Eurocamp at Peschiera del Garda on Lake Garda following rave reviews by friends but all sold out during school holidays.

Its the first time for the kids to holiday abroad so would like to get it as right as I can.

Ideally we would like

1. Europe
2. Beach
3. Lots of restaurants
4. Theme/water parks good
5. Ideally a brick lodge but could stretch to small complex villa.
6. Relaxing with enough activities

Don't want

1. Hotel
2. Tub thumping nightclub area
3. Over commercialised

Any suggestions as always much appreciated.

Cheers in advance fellas  :thumbup

Hiya fellas,

Anyone up for a cheap Fazer ?

Bike has MOT until August 14th, need to find paper ticket but shows on the government website.

Braided hoses fitted front and back.

EBC pads front and back.

Topbox and Givi rack.

Has 2 keys for bike and one for topbox.

General / Towbar Mounted Motorbike Rack Advice Required
« on: 21 March 2017, 05:00:26 pm »
Hiya fellas,

As per title really. Got my eyes on a couple of nice modded VW T5/6 campervans and looking to drag a bike around with me on a towbar. Has anyone used/got one from Dave Cooper? They seem good value. Any others I've missed which are better. I know most take trailie bikes and can't locate one that would take the Fazer so advice as always appreciated  :thumbup

Just a bit of fun. Chuck in your bike's flywheel power i.e. 96Bhp FZS600 then chuck in your weight and it gives BHP/Ton with or without your arse on it.

Reckon the "Racing Snake" as Tomski put it will win this one  :lol

I got 327 Bhp/Ton with my arse on the bike

General / Squeaky Sidi Adventure Boots
« on: 17 February 2017, 10:12:16 pm »
Hope you fellas can help 'cos this is driving me mad.

After 3 yrs and knocking 80,000 miles, my TCX Infinity boots started to leak. Cleaned them up, applied Nikwax but the Goretex appeared to have blown - sole was pretty shot anyhow as a 365 rider.

The TCX were a cracking boot but I always buy the best gear I can affordd and was sold on the Sidi Adventure Goretex boot (4 months old, broken in etc). Great protection, good grip and comfy as hell. https://www.infinitymotorcycles.com/product/sidi-adventure-gore-tex-boots/1761

As much as I love these boots they are feckin noisy and squeak like I've got a dozen geese with me. They're fine on the bike and walking down the street but fecking annoying when trying to walk through an office. I'm close to selling them on unless I can cure this squeaking.

From what I can make out, it's either the plastic exoskeleton rubbing on plastic or on the Goretex leather itself. So the question is - what is considered safe to apply:- chain lube; dry chain lube, silicon oil (thinking WD40 is a bad idea for the leather).

Any advice as always appreciated fellas  :thumbup

General / Rear fog light
« on: 15 December 2016, 09:59:29 pm »
Hiya fellas, now I know you don't see bikes with rear fog lights and have seen numerous cars with rear fogs in their rear clusters. Is there any legislation as to why? Distance from running light? (about 6 inches max on cars). Distance from number plate? Anyone have any answers?

Reason being that I won't one - not for fog mind cos I can't remember the last time the fog was thick enough to warrant it (thick enough drivers all too quick to slap them on when it rains mind grrrrrr).

No, I won't one cos i'm sick to shit of being tailgated by arse wipes down the motorway - you can slow down, brake lightly or gesture as much as you want but some cnuts still sit there. I figure that one of my front spot lights with a bit of red film aimed backwards would help so any answers would be much appreciated.

Cheers

General / Are Rukka Gore Tex Gloves Worth The Extra ??
« on: 24 September 2016, 04:12:20 pm »
Hiya fealls, looking for advice on the Rukka Gloves. I ride 365 in all weathers and tend to currently go through both a winter and summer set of gloves yearly - same issue being the velcro gives up.

Currently with Rich Cold Protect which have been warm, waterproof until recently and comfy. Just wondering if anyone has or has had RFukka gloves which give you a 2 yr warranty. Are they as warm as other gloves etc

Looking at the Apollo gloves (top right in link)

Gloves must have scaphoid sliders

Hiya fellas, as per title says. Looking to replace my 4 yr old TCX infinity boots which have blown and let in water when heavy rain. Needs to be adventure style due to my riding style of dragging my right foot on r/hand pull aways so require metal toe caps.

Anyone had experience of Sidi Gore Tex boots they'd like to share, good or bad.

General / Fancy a track day bike for under a grand
« on: 21 March 2016, 09:58:30 pm »

Right then fellas, got a massive itch about track days that needs scratching this year. So at 6'4" is there anything out there that fits, won't fall to bits or blow on 1st outing or do I go the same as SGPWWG in linky below who seems to have a right cracking time on his Boxeye. It's been probably 25yrs since I last hit a track so any advice appreciated  :thumbup .

FZS600 Fazer / CBF 1000 Charging/Battery Advice Req (CBF Forum crap)
« on: 19 February 2016, 08:38:55 pm »
Hiya fellas,

Looking for some charging advice on my CBF and thought I'd post on this forum 'cos the CBF forum just runs round the same old crap. Reckon I'll get an impartial opinion here on a basic bike charging circuit.

The CBF1000 up until 2010 models has a well documented stator/rectifier issue which was a recall from Honda, unfortunately my bike being an '07 is outside of Honda's 7yr free fix.

The issue I have is that both the Oxford v8 heated grips and the LED spots are suffering from what appears to be a low supply voltage. The Oxfords switch off and the LEDs will only glow. The Oxfords used to work for a given period (45 mins) which gradually reduced to not operating. The spots went from running for a given period (45 mins) before they started flashing and needing turning off. The period would be shorter on the way home until the bike went onto the Optimate over night. Issue started about a week ago and went downhill pretty fast - all other electrics working fine. Both grips and spots are wired through relays of good quality which I've checked ok but replaced anyway.

The battery at standstill post Optimate measures 12.7Vdc going to 13.7Vdc at idle and running to 14.1Vdc at 5k rpm. After riding home and pre Optimate charge the voltages are the same. No problem it would appear, and these voltages are also at the Oxford terminals and the LED spot light terminals.

However, the Oxfords will only switch on for 2 seconds before flashing a "low voltage" yellow lamp and switching off. The LED spots will only glow gently and not fully power up. All the time the supply voltages are good.

Now this is basics I know but doesn't make sense - sufficient voltage = bloody work then!! However, before I splash out £300 on a new stator, rectifier/regulator and battery I'm just wondering if a poor battery can show sufficient voltage but have insufficient amps available??

Has anyone had anything similar?

I know a digital multimeter can show 240Vac with bugger all current behind it due to the low impedence (resistence) of a Digi Multi Meter.

Anyone else suspect it could just be the battery having voltage but no balls so to speak (no idea how old it is - Model YUASA YTZ10S)

As always, any advice much appreciated  :thumbup
