FZS600 Fazer / Squeaky rear brake
« on: 15 July 2013, 01:50:26 pm »
When i spin the rear wheel there is a squeak coming form the rear brake, the wheel spins one turn with a bit of effort.
I assume that there is a sticky piston.
I'm going to take the caliper off, remove the pads, put a bit of wood inbetween the pistons and pump them out to give them a clean and regrease.
Does taking the resevior cap off help in returning the pistons to the in position?
Don't want to strip them down as i need the bike and am planning putting braided lines on in about 3 weeks so want to do it then if needs be.

FZS600 Fazer / Sorry brake pads!!
« on: 12 May 2013, 11:36:45 am »
Ok about to pull mine out and check them, might not have been inspected for 3 years gulp.

I've checked through the other topics and am now throughly confused.
My disc's are original so what are the best pads to get?? Whats the difference between sintered/organic? Are EBC/ Gulfer/ SBS a make? Race or road?
I don't ride hard or on track but would like to know that i have good anchors.
Please help in very simple language with perhaps a link to the pads you use.

General / Car Stereo
« on: 03 May 2013, 04:48:26 pm »
I have an 12 year old astra and am thinking of putting a new stereo in it with cd player so that my 3 year old can listen to music etc, the old one is a tape deck.
Its the original stereo of the type that has a seperate screen further up in the dash, with time, temp and radio station.
My question is if i change the stereo to one with its own screen on the face what happens to the cars in built display, will it work at all, or just time date show etc?
Any ideas would be great.
Thanks
Nick

PS before you tell me get a new car, we can't afford one. :)

FZS600 Fazer / Coolant Flush and Replace
« on: 05 April 2013, 06:52:43 pm »
Simple i know, just want to check a few things.
It looks like the lowest place the coolant runs is on the left side of the engine at the bottom, and the highest is a filler cap under the tank.
Is that correct?
Do i just flush it with water?
cheers

FZS600 Fazer / Clutchless Gear Changes - Again
« on: 03 March 2013, 08:42:40 pm »
I went on a IAM check ride today, and all went well. A couple of things he mentioned to help improve my smoothness was clutchless gear changes.
I know this was mentioned before but can't remember where.
He was saying use the clutch on 1,2,3 up changes, on 4th put a little pressure on the gear lever and then you can use less clutch when you go to change, thats fine as i would still be using the clutch. But on 5 and 6th up changes he said he doesn't use the clutch at all.
Is this ok with our gear boxes, because they are quite clunky at the best of times. Its and 02 600.
On all down changes he said use the clutch at all times.
I just want to know if this is ok on the gear box, NOT whether it is an appropriate thing to do in every day riding.
Cheers

FZS600 Fazer / Am I being paranoid?
« on: 28 January 2013, 09:57:25 pm »
New rear tyre fitted last week and put the wheel back in all by myself, as far as I can tell its all gone in fine, no bits left chain slack is within tolerance etc.
Took it for a ride yesterday (90 mile) and there is a constant whirling/whine noise. Its not engine because it the same with clutch in etc. It correlates and changes with bike speed.
Can't remember if it was there before. Am i being paranoid or have i done something stupid?

Anyone got there mild steel ones kicking around in reasonable condition?
Mine have started blowing holes in the collector box area.
I will do mine up, but a swap with a reconditioned set would make it easier.

FZS600 Fazer / Straight Through Exhaust
« on: 15 December 2012, 08:26:40 pm »
Took my mircon end can off yesterday, MOT soon and my IAM observer liked it but could hear all my small adjustments and was criticising them.
Anyway shown a torch down it and it shines straight through. I run a standard air filter and i have not rejetted the carbs and its standard yamaha downpipes.
My question is, is this damaging the engine in any way, back pressure an issue? Or am i just worrying? I know the law might not like it but i'll run that risk.
Many thanks
Nick

High speed race in the rain, a couple dead.
Darwinian theory at work. Some less dumb asses on the road.
At least no innocence were harmed.
