Hey! Replaced caps, also replaced carbs orings and overflow valves and works as new. Thanks everyone!

FZS600 / Where that oring goes??
« on: 17 July 2016, 06:19:53 pm »
Hello,

Trying to fix my carbs with following set (attached). Question is - where does smallest oring go? I have no idea and it seems impossible to find inside manual (too low resolution). Can you help?

Thanks

Hello! I will order caps in few days but it seems there is trouble with fuel system or carbs because i checked and I have a spark on every cable

I am way too unskilled to check that, so I will probably ask someone to do my carbs.
About caps - do you think they need replacing? Also strange thing is that SD05F 5kOhm not 10kOhm

Hello,

Did my measurements and:

coil 1-4, primary 2,5Ohm, secondary 15,76Ohm
coil 2-3, primary 2,6Ohm, secondary 15,69Ohm

Now to the caps:

1 - 9,6kOhm
2 - 9,6kOhm
3 - 10,75kOhm
4 - 89kOhm

So coil seems fine, but caps are weird (specs says 10kOhm). It still wont start, but if I give it some throttle it will but it will work unevenly (like 3 cylinder) and after some time there will be gasoline driping from near carburetors (is it normal?)

What are you recommendations - replace caps? If yes - what are NGK model numbers?

Hello,

First of all thank you for all replies. I will reply to all of you in one post to keep it clean:

@Fazer99 - clocks are fine, and there is no popping or backfiring from exhaust.
@BBROWN1664 - flaps are in right place but usually sides of bike are getting wet from the roadso are cables and plugs
@andybesy - I can handle multimeter and will do measurements in few days but question is how to do it properly? I have a servicing manual that says that there should be JO313 Denso Coils with 1,87 0 2,53 Ohm on primary and 12 - 18kOhm on secondary winding. Should I do measurements with cables (especially secondary where cables are unremovable). Also it says that there should be 10kOhm resistance on spark plug cap. Where should it be measured?

Thanks!

FZS600 Fazer / FZS600 2000 ignition cables

Hello,

For about two years I had issues with ignition of my FZS 600 ('2000). Usually after rain it had trouble with working unevenly (defnitely not all plugs were giving proper sparks). So I replaced all spark plugs and it helped for a little while. Now it started again and it happens only after rain or washing. Last time after rain it would even start (starter was working fine but firing) I had to give it some acceleration before it would start.

So I think that time has come to replace cables or seal them with ignition sealer. What do you think? If I had to replace them do I need to do that with coils? They are glued together with cables.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

FZS600 Fazer / Re: Voltage and dying battery
« on: 11 September 2015, 08:06:55 am »
Hello,

I followed your advice and bought new battery (Varta AGM). It is not maybe best possible choice, but still not the cheapest one.
Now my Fazer starts with touch of a finger, everytime. When starting voltage drops to about 11.2 - 11.5V. So much difference.

And funny thing - it had some issues when cold it would work on all cylinders, now problem is gone. Is it a coincidence or maybe
it was also caused by faulty battery?

Thank you for your help!

For my 2000 FZS 600 there is a YT12B-BS battery. Whenever I look it always 10Ah. Do you think I can get higher amps?

It was deeply discharged few times (faulty alarm installation, now removed). So it seems probable. Thanks man!

Hello, long time no see :)

I am having trouble with battery lately. After I charge it with charger and drive motorcycle for a while it has some trouble starting (I can see it almost does not start up, and if I try to start it few times in a row it can't do it after second or third time.

So my guesses were - faulty battery, faulty electric installation (shorted) or something with charging. So it did test:

- battery after charging with external charger and leaving for a while - 12.6V
- while starting motorcycle from fully charged battery - voltage drops for a while to about 9V (and when I do it second and third time it drops to about 7V)
- when idling and everything turned off - 14.4V
- with lights on and idling - 13 V
- with high beam and idling - 12 V and dropping

So what are your guesses - are voltages are OK on idle? I thought it always would be 14.4 even with lights (because voltage regulator should turn it up?)

Thanks!

I am using mirrors from 1000 model and some time ago I broke one (bike faling from sidestand) and bought the one from Louis. It looks like same as originals.

I want to ask if I understand it correctly - you mean to replace pulse sensor in front wheel with old-school-wire one? :)

I would rather try to tap into signal fron digital front wheel, because if it is square wave and nothing more complicated (it doesn't seem to, it is only a wheel with ferromagnetic) I can use interrupt input on arduino to count cycles.

Thanks!

What are you trying to make for it? Sounds like a gear position indicator to me, I did the pickup und for mine by adding extra contacts to a spare neutral light switch, cost £5 off ebay, not yet done the display but the switch shows good on a multimeter and more accurate than a rpm/speed comparison.

To be honest - just fooling around. Planning to do meters of rpms, speed, voltage, temperature (coolant and environment), gear indicator and so on.

for rpm just wrap some wire around the spark plug ht lead, 4 coils should do then set your equipment to measure the rpms trial and error comparing to the rpm displayed on speedo may be easiest HOWEVER ONCE YOU HAVE GOT IT WORKING DONT CHANGE THE AMOUNT OF COILS AROUND THE HT LEAD AS THIS WILL CHANGE THE EQUATION SINCE THE ELECTROMAGNETIC FIELD IS CUTTING THROUGH MORE WIRES INDUCING A LARGER CURRENT...

As for speedo it depends on your circuit are you using a microcomputer or just adapting a pushbike speedo
if using a microcomputer (coded in hex) calculate the distance for 1 meter, convert to miles and then take the number of turns taken and.. i hope you get the idea
as for neutral light just tap off the existing one

Hello,

I am using microcontroller (Arduino Uno). I was thinking about wrapping a coil around also, it is easier way, but where to get speed? I think it gives pulses from front wheel, but where to tap to count them?

Hello,

Do you maybe know pinouts of Fzs 600 '00 odometer pinouts? I am planning to connect some DIY electronics to it - I need to read RPMs, speed and neutral. I need to count cycles from front wheel and from ingintion, but don't know which cables do what :).

Thanks!
