Hi Guy's,

Sorry about that last message/f-up.

No been on for ages, and for good reason. But I already went in to that kind of.

On to the Fazer. So I was out for a run and as I was in the process of an overtake when the power cut out on me. Baws I thought as I watched the car pass on my inside and the driver giving me a friendly gesture. Silent and awkward sums it up best. So I thumbed the starter and it burst in to life with a backfire. I drove on some 25-30 miles at a steady pace and about 6000 rpm. All seemed ok so I stepped it up gradually to 10000 rpm. The the power died and the engine cut out. Again, once I came to a hault, I thumbed the starter and it banged in to life with a backfire.

This is now the theme of the bike. The electrics are good. The engine sounds fine on idle. It is serviced, I fitted a new battery and the bike has been getting used regularly. It seemed to start happening for no reason.

Any ideas foccers? Hope you are all doing well and living life.

For Sale & Wanted / APRILIA TUONO 1000 V-TWIN ***NEW PICTURES***
« on: 17 April 2016, 07:02:50 pm »
Hi Guy's,

I'm having a clear out and gauging what the interest in my TUONO would be...

The bike has 14,000 on the clock, FSH, has a HUGE spec list and is ridiculously MINT condition. By that I mean it looks new. DYNOJET stage 3, Aprilia racing wheels, Pirelli tyres, Brembo breaks, braided hoses, full Arrow system, carbon fibre stuff and the list goes on forever.

The Sprag Clutch needs done on it, which I would do prior to selling. It would received an oil and filter change at this time too.

It would break my heart to sell this bike, but if the right offer is there I will.

I will take pictures if there is any interest.

Cheers guys.

For Sale & Wanted / YAMAHA YZF1000 THUNDERACE
« on: 17 April 2016, 06:47:19 pm »
Hi Guy's,
I had this bike for sale a while back, but decided to keep hold of it for a bit longer. The time has come to sell it as my "circumstances" have changed. I had/have it on MCN for £1695 (the AD expired and I need to keep emailing them to renew it :rolleyes ).

At that price it was by far the cheapest one available, and it was one of the nicest ones too. I'm happy to sell it to a fellow foccer for £1500. It's a cracking bike for that money. Here's the info from the AD...

Yamaha YZF 1000 Thunderace 1996 P reg 21,000 miles Just fully serviced V5 present 2 keys Remus full exhaust system with carbon can Braided hoses K & N air filter Loads of work done recently including engine flush, Rad flush, full fluid change (brake, clutch, oil, radiator) full service, wheel bearings changed, carburettors balanced, suspension checked and reset, new shocker, caliper rebuild, new stainless steel fasteners, everything torqued up to Yamaha spec and more. Tyres are good and it's currently on SORN.

I'm in Glasgow. Any Foccer having to travel to view it is welcome to tea/dinner or even a bed for the night if required. Any questions, please get in touch.

Guy's, I'm clearing out and have loads of motorcycle related stuff for sale, including three bikes, clothes and a bunch of other stuff.

I've seen these on eBay for £150-£289, but obviously a foccers discount is offered.

Right Foccers, due to, erm, unforeseen circumstances I find myself with an expensive ring and an empty hoose! Well, I've still got my cat and my bike, so it's not all bad. Haha!!!  :lol

Really though, genuine sale here. I've had it on Gumtree and all I'm getting is nutters wanting to swap it for a pot noodle and a go on their trampoline. I don't use eBay anymore cause its terrible, and the jeweller I bought it from is offering me just over 1/3 what I paid for it. So I thought I'd see if anyone on here is interested.

I'd be willing to meet within 100 miles of Glasgow if your a distance away. Nice days only cause I would bring the bike. I would accept bank transfer, but I would prefer you arranged shipping due to the value of the ring. I would arrange shipping for you if that's a problem, but full insurance would be required. Viewing welcome.

Beautiful Diamond Ring set in Platinum

Very high quality, beautifully made and expensive

Round cut, G, SI2, 0.72CT

All paperwork including independent valuation for £4750

Your welcome to have it valued for yourself, provided you can leave a deposit.

This really is a beautiful ring and would make any woman happy

Genuine reason for sale

General / IOM TT 2015
« on: 29 April 2015, 11:26:27 pm »
Advice, Info and open invite.

I am thinking of taking a day trip on the 10th of June as a foot passenger. I've never been before and was wondering (from experienced TT goers) if it is worth £30-40 for a fanzone ticket, or if I should just go free spirit style and wing it when I get there.

Are there plenty toilet facilities? Is it easy to get about? The usual stuff to be considered for any event/festival.

Oh, and if any of you foccers fancy it... The ferry is about £60. Everything else is up to you.

Car pull's and so on could be arranged and meet in Heysham.

Have at it lads  :)

General / First run of Spring :)
« on: 18 March 2015, 06:08:11 pm »
It was a beautiful day in the West coast of Scotland and I had my first proper run this year. I took the Stewarton road to Kilmaurs, then on to Portencross via the A78. From there I jollied up to Largs for a coffee at Nardini's. Lots of bikes there  :thumbup . I then headed to Lochwinnoch via the A760, then on to the A737 for the last half hour. Great wee day out.

So...

Let's see some pictures of your first run of Spring  :)

General / New Bike :)
« on: 21 January 2015, 02:32:14 pm »
So, after much deliberation, I got myself a new steed.

I was after an Italian super-twin and had pondered over an Aprilia Tuono.

So that is what I got...

And she's a beauty!

General / Anyone heard of Held helmets?
« on: 17 January 2015, 06:27:27 pm »
Its new helmet time. I like HJC and KBC helmets, and so I was considering the HC RPHA ST. Then I had a look at the Caberg Tourmax, but heard Caberg helmets are noisy. Then I google'd touring helmets, and the Held ST6 Carbon popped up. I cant seem to find any info on them. Does anyone have any experience of them?

Probably looking at buying in the next week or two. Any other recommendations around the £2-300 mark would be good too.

Cheers

General / I feel like I'm cheating on you guys!!!
« on: 14 January 2015, 11:00:42 pm »
This is the first forum I ever joined, and although I have only met a few of you, I feel like I know you all.

Anyway, as I am going to view an Aprilia Tuono at the weekend, so I joined a Tuono forum to ask the guys n gals there is they have any advice for me or if there was anything I should look out for. After a few reply's to my post, I started to have this overwhelming need to come on here and confess.

I AM SORRY.

I am not selling my Fazer and won't be going anywhere. However, IF I buy the Tuono I will be taking the Fazer off the road to do some Major works to it, so I will still be looking for advice and talking shite with the best of them.

General / The perfect workspace
« on: 10 January 2015, 05:59:04 pm »
I'm sure some of you Foccers have a workshop/workspace/garage where you like to spend the cold winter nights hiding from the wife and kids... Or repairing things (as they believe  ;) ). So I want the benefit of your vast wealth of collective experience...

I am in the process of re-doing my garage. It was there when I bought the house in 08', and had been up for about 15 years then. At that time it housed a boat and little else. Now it has my bikes, tools, golf clubs, occasionally my car, and various other bits and bobs.

It started to subside a while back, so I have used this as an excuse to fix it and fit it out properly. I have fitted 3 x 4ft fluorescent lamps. There are 3 double plug points. I plan to paint the walls white, and in the spring I will use epoxy paint on the floor. I am going to build a 4ft wooden workbench and buy a 4ft metal workbench. These will sit at the back with my triple tool stack in between them. I have various shelving units and stacking systems to hold bits and bobs. I have a bench grinder, vice and might buy a table top drill. I also plan on buying something to house all my bike gear, like a clothing rack or similar. I have a comfy seat, a woklamp, several movable worklamps and a heater. I don't plan to have any running water, as drainage will be an issue. Also, I have loads of posters, pictures and a clock to go up once its done.

It'll mostly be used for avoiding housework and taking stuff apart.

So Foccers, what am I missing to have the perfect workspace?

(The pictures below are the garage in its current state)

General / I fancy a change of bike... Or do I?
« on: 07 January 2015, 06:42:35 pm »
I am thinking of taking my boxeye off the road when the insurance/tax runs out at the end of Spring. I need to do the steering head bearing and I was thinking of powdercoating the frame and changing the rest of the chassis bearings. Maybe service the carbs whilst the engine is out too. It is coming on 40k and I want to rest it and take care of all the wee bits before they become an issue.

So, my dilemma is as follows... Do I put my YZS 1000 Thunderace on the road for a year, or do I sell it buy something else? I have booked up for Germany for 8 days in May (one my own  :D ), where I will be hitting the Nurburgring again, and exploring the black forrest and surrounding area. I expect to cover around 4000 miles over the year, and it will all be pleasure use and mostly 300 mile days.

I was considering buying a brand new Moto Guzzi 1200 Sport, but have gone off the idea caus' I can't be arsed with the dealer "servicing" (read conning) the bike (me). I do fancy a big twin as I have never had one before. I was thinking of an Aprilia tuono? Honda Firestorm? Suzuki whatsit (not gixxer, the other one, TL is it?). I can spend a few grand in a cash sale, max. No more than that. I have 4 bikes already and the missus will kick me square in the balls if I spend more than that on a fifth bike. If I sell the Ace, she won't bother as it will fund the replacement... Nearly :lol

So, more out of interest, have any of you lived with a big twin that you would recommend? Top speed is of no real interest to me. I'm more about the torque and that glorious sound... Bang, bang, bang, bang!!! I love it. I don't wan't a sporty riding position, so a Duke is out. Upright'sh, wide arms is fine, something that looks cool and has a bit of street cred.

Go on foccers, get stuck in!

FZS600 Fazer / Front Master Clinder
« on: 06 November 2014, 12:34:49 am »
I don't love the feel from the front brake. It comes on progressively and feels a bit soft to me. The bike stops fine, but I like a firm and assured bite with a more solid feel from the pads first contact through to full stop.

My Honda has this. The front brake can stoppie on a dime. I am used to that feeling and prefer it. Its solid and assured.

I have braided hoses on all my bikes, and all the hoses are Hel, so there is definitely no issue there.

I want to know if there is another master cylinder that fits on to the Fazer (even if I have to fit a new lever or whatever) that will give me the feel I want.

Have any of you guys done this before?

Events, Meets, Ride outs etc / Foccers Spring tour of Skye 2015...?
« on: 03 November 2014, 01:20:06 am »
Right-O boys. I have been meaning to do this for a while, so I've decided to throw it out there now.

I usually go on a little solo tour of the Highlands in the Spring time. This year I went to the lakes, which was beautiful and a nice change... But I prefer it up here because its quiet, wild and spectacular.

So, for all you Foccers who have never visited the Skye, The Highlands or even Scotland, now (next Spring) might be a perfect opportunity.

I have been to Skye several times and there is lots to see and do. If you want to ride your bike relentlessly, that is an option. The bunny ears are tremendous fun and can be completed a few times in a day. But there is also Whisky tasting, Mountaineering, Hiking, Beaches, Bars and more.

I stay in Portree because it is a great central location. There is a brilliant pub there that serves cold beer and ale, the food is great and portions are generous, and the barmaids are hired based on the weight of their tata's. Well, at least that was the case when I was there last.

I am booked up for March 9th-12th. I plan to do a bit of Mountaineering (not booked yet), riding, eating and drinking. I will leave Glasgow at roughly 9am on the 9th, and should arrive before dark. The road there is fast and amazing, and for those of you who have never made it past the border, it will be a really special treat (as long as we get the weather).

I invite all you Foccers to check your diary, see what holidays you are due and decide if you fancy an adventure.

Remember, it could be 13 degrees and sunny, but it could be 0 degrees and snowing. The disclaimer states that I do not decide the weather. We get what we get (but I have always been lucky  :D ). The pictures are from February 2013.

General / Up them mountains!!!
« on: 04 October 2014, 05:27:55 pm »
I am getting back in to my hill climbing and mountain climbing. I used to be a keen walker and climber in my "yoof", having climbed mountains in Scotland, Germany, Austria, Italy, Spain and Australia, but fell away from it due to work, health and life...

But recently I have rekindled my love of the wilderness and have managed to climb about 10 mountains in the last couple of months. About half of these have been Munro's, the rest being Corbetts.

I got out on Thursday with a workmate, who is aiming for 100 Munro's. We climbed 3, and passed over 2 Corbett's on the way.

Are any of you other foccers climbers or walkers?

If so, lets see your pictures.

FZS600 Fazer / Original fork springs
« on: 28 September 2014, 05:38:56 pm »
Does anyone have a picture of the original fork springs for the box eye 600 (2000 model)? I want to know if they are the same along the length or if the coils are more condensed to one end...

I have stripped mine twice now and changed the oil twice, so I know what I have. I just want to know if they are the original units or if they have been changed out at some point.

Thanks

General / Centenary Memorial Poppy Tour 2014
« on: 04 August 2014, 07:01:03 pm »
2014 marks the centenary of the Great War. On the 22nd of August, at midnight, I will carry a single poppy from George Square, Glasgow, to the Thiepval War Memorial in Northern France. The poppy will be carried by motorcycle through Scotland, England, Holland, Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Lichtenstein, Italy, Belgium and France, covering over 3000 road miles before being placed in honor of those who sacrificed so much. All proceeds will be donated to Erskine hospital, who look after injured servicemen and women of Great Britain.

Give what you can, and thank them for the sacrifice they have made for us.

All gave some. Some gave all.

General / Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games
« on: 03 August 2014, 11:46:50 pm »
Since the announcement that Glasgow will be the host of the 2014 Commonwealth Games, we have been getting ready to host everyone whom descends upon us. Now that it is all over I reflect on the past couple of weeks fondly and will remember it as an outstanding experience, both in my professional and private life and . There is to much to mention, but here are the highlights...

I watched the opening ceremony on top of the highest building in the city and saw fighter jets fly over Celtic park with Red, White and Blue smoke pouring out whilst everyone stood for God Save the Queen. I will never forget.

I was part of a team of three, who caught two arsonists red handed.

I directed countless tourists to their destination.

I had access all areas to the Perch festival.

I stopped a junkie trying it on with two Brazilian tourists.

I got screwed over by Nigerian internet trolls.

I went to rugby sevens at Ibrox with my beautiful Fiancee (J).

I went to the boxing at the SECC with J.

I had a street argument with a guy that hit my car and drove off. Then another guy joined in... To help him!!!

I went to the athletics at Hampden Park with J.

I got a ticket for riding through a "bus" lane on my way to work.

I worked an event and met the Prime Minister of New Zeland, The Prime Minister of Fiji, The Governor General of Australia and the First Minister of Scotland.

I met several athletes from various nations of the Commonwealth.

I immersed myself in the party we threw for everyone and their maw that came to visit our wee city on the West coast of Scotland.

It has been quite a fortnight and I feel I have done my part as a Glaswegian and a servant to the public. They said people make Glasgow. I feel we have done just that :D

I truly hope everyone had a great time in our city, thank you for coming and safe home.

General / "Notchy" front end...
« on: 27 July 2014, 02:22:52 pm »
Hi guys,

I had my MoT last week and was advised that the steering was notchy. To explain further, when the front brake is applied and the bike is rocked back and forth, there is a notchy sensation through the bars. I guess its from the bearings at the point where the yolks/suspension is connected to the chassis? Does that sound about right? Could it be that everything just needs torqued up? Or will the whole bearing unit need replacing...

I go on tour in a few weeks, so I would like to get it sorted beforehand. However, I don't want to have to start a major job (as I did last year just before I set off... Never again), so if there is a temporary fix, I will go with that for now.

As usual, any help appreciated  :)
