FZS600 Fazer / Re: Petrol pouring out of carb overflow ?
« on: 09 July 2021, 12:34:20 pm »
I had the same problem, it was the rubbers in the carb on that had gone hard, I bought a £20 rebuild kit and replaced rubbers, the float valve and bit it slots in to and this sorted it. Double check you oil as I had the fuel fill up the engine as the rubbers on the carb we so  perished.

Had a great day on Saturday at Bedford Autodrome giving it everything. Clicked over to 89k while blatting around the track. Did 130 miles mostly at the redline and blew through 28 litres of super unleaded on the track.

FZS600 Fazer / Re: Easyist way to get carbs off???
« on: 11 May 2018, 02:52:56 pm »
When refitting I have always found it easier to fit the carbs to the airbox side rubbers first as the rubbers tend to fold into the bell-mouth of the carbs. I have found this the easiest way to guarantee no air leaks as the rubbers have to fit over the carbs that side and are a simple push-in on the engine-side.

Taking the Fazer on track is a great idea and an ideal way to understand how get the most out of the bike.
For raising the footpegs I had some simple risers made that raised the footpegs by 50mm, this a more than enough and I am now hitting the left engine case when really trying. The only issue I had was I had to move the rear brake reservoir up and trim the main pipe shorter.
A 180 tyre is not worth the hassle go for a set of 120/160 Pirelli Supercorsas and you'll be amazed by the grip they offer.
I have also converted mine to race shift with a "Rearsets Reverse Shift Kit for Ninja 250R" from Ebay and a couple of Rose Joints.
Getting the engine running spot on will help but the Fazer is so good in the braking area you can make up a lot of what you loose in speed on the straights.
My old 98 Fazer has 88k miles on will still hit an indicated 138 at Bedford with a fairing and a rack.
Let us know which track days you are going to do, as I have only been on track with one other Fazer in the last 4 years.

just finished a 820 mile round trip to the Nurburgring, did 5 laps of the the 'Green Hell' which was an awesome but scary experience. The old Fazer never missed a beat even after maxing it out on the autobahn with an indicated 145 chasing my brother on Aprilia Mille.

Carbs can be real pain to fit back on. After so many times of doing this myself with many carb related issues, I have found that fitting the carbs to the air box first and ensuring that they fitted properly guarantees no air leaks as it is easy to fold the inner airbox carb rubbers inside the card bell mouth, then push the whole lot on the carb rubbers on the head. Also check that the carb slides go up and down smoothly and you can feel the resistance from the diaphragms, these carbs are at least 14 years old and the diaphragms can get tired or even split.

The Fazer 600 is great on track, I am off to Bedford on Monday the 15th, noise has never been an issue, I have a DB killer and never get higher then 90db. I have done 8 track days and have always had a fantastic time, it may not be the fastest on the straights but the brakes and cornering ability make up for it. I have plenty of my videos on YouTube (FZS 600 Bedford Autodrome track day 25th July 2016 Session 5)
I have changed the tyres to Pirelli Supercorsa's, dropped the front forks through the yokes by 40mm, made some foot peg risers, changed the front sprocket to 13 tooth and added a reverse race shift. My Fazer has 87,200 miles and still hits and indicated 135 on the Bedford back straight.
My advice is go for it, you will have some much fun, just remember to go at your own pace and it is not a race.

I had similar issue and it was the centre stand being to high when riding. It was down to the rubber bung that is on the right side falling off and allowing the centre stand finishing 10mm higher so restricting the gear change. Fitted a new rubber problem sorted. Could be worth checking.

Had another great track day at Bedford Autodrome. Changed the front sprocket to 13 tooth for greater punch out of the corners. Videos being uploaded to YouTube tonight if anyones interested. Still revs into the red-line, fastest top speed 134 on the back straight not bad for 86,000+ miles. Added a few pics from the day.

Have you thought about dropping the yokes through the forks.  I have done this (25mm) and this does the same as longer dog bones without the issue of the wheel touching the floor on the centre stand or causing to much lean on the side stand.

The best tyres to go for are Pirelli supercorsas.  Look on eBay go for a 120 front and 160 rear you will not believe the difference they make. I have done 5 tracks days on the same set and they are awesome, so much so I have started to hit the generator cover on fast left handers. I have another day booked at Bedford autodrome on the 25th and can't wait. You will need to make some jack up plates for you foot pegs though.

Fitted spare set of Pirelli supercorsas, oil change, stripped and cleaned the carbs, new plugs, caps and coils all ready for Bedford autodrome track day on the old girl.

All ready and set for the day.

Fantastic day had great time with another fazer 600. Did 120 miles on the track, my tyres took a hammering.

A few on track picks of the day, have booked again for 25th July.

New pick it was getting very low on the fast corners.

I had the same issue with a buzzing only a certain revs and it turned out to be the screws that hold the screen where old and loose. Got some new ones job done.  Could be worth a try.
