General / Bike without an engine
« on: 20 July 2015, 07:58:22 pm »
I know some of you guys may have a push bike, so I'm looking for some advice on my future purchase :) through the cycle to work scheme.

I've narrowed it down to 2 or 3 bikes for my needs....

They are....

Giant revolt 3 or 2
Giant defy 2 or 3
Trek Domane 2

My needs are to some road riding with my son but also to use it on canal tracks etc, so I am leaning more to the giant revolt 3 if I'm honest. But, if any of you guys has any experience, good or bad, please let me know.
Cheers

FZS600 Fazer / HID mod
« on: 18 July 2015, 06:02:08 pm »
Just a couple of pics of my HID mod, still to tidy it up a bit and try it at night, but it's brighter than standard candlelight and gets me noticed more during the day so that's always a bonus :)

General / Financial Advice please
« on: 14 July 2015, 11:05:42 pm »
Hi,
I'm looking for some serious advice on what to do about a situation my father has found himself in.

He's 89 in August and suffers a wee bit of memory loss etc.

He went to his building society to withdraw his savings to get them all transfered into his current account at the bank.

BS gave him two cheques to value of approximately 50k, he took these to the bank immediately after leaving BS.

Financial advisor asked if he could help and proceeded to get my father to read various sheets of info and watch a video on a pc monitor in the bank, got to mention my father can't read unless he uses his easy read that increases the size and puts it onto his tv even then he struggles.

So long and short of it, guy at Bank has now put his 50k into a bond for 3yrs!

I found out about this by accident and duly went to the bank with my father to ask why they done this and was told "we asked your father if this is what he wanted, and went through various options but he said he wasn't interested in getting hold of the money, he just wanted it safe"

I asked why they didn't realise they were dealing with an old guy who can't walk, listen, or read properly? And why didn't they think to say, we should call your son, who they know as, I bank there too!

So now, after asking them to cancel it as we were told it had a 14day cooling off period, are being told we can't and was given wrong information, if he wants to cancel it now, they are charging £453 for the privilege.

So my dad has an bond account, which if he needs money, he'll be charged a hefty fee to take it out, admitted they said it goes down every month till the 3rd July 2018!

Yes, my dad has a current account which he gets his pension into etc and is more well off than I'll ever be, but I guess I'm asking....
Do you think this is right?
Could I get it sorted without the costs?

I know it's certainly not moral, but they are banks etc after all so I don't hold out much hope, but your advice and help would be really grateful.

Thanks,
Colin

FZS600 Fazer / Scottoiler
« on: 01 June 2015, 10:04:23 pm »
Hi, picked up a scottoiler v version,  so my question is how's the best way to fit it to a fzs600?

I've had them before and I'm capable of doing the job, just wondered if any of you guys had any neat tricks for fitting?

I will need to go and get some parts, like the vacuum connector from scottoiler and they're only 10 miles away so not a hassle really.
Thanks.

General / What's this for?
« on: 24 May 2015, 04:06:55 am »

General / Show your bike lift :)
« on: 22 May 2015, 12:21:03 am »
Just as it says, what do you use to lift/work on your bike?
You got any bad experience of using it?
Any tips etc?
What would you do to make it better?
Remember a pic or two of it in action.

I'll start with mine.....
Eazyrizer original green,
Had this for years and it's lifted various bikes I've had honda cb500, honda cbr600, bmw R1200GS and now my fazer
It's also lifted my mates big kawasaki 1400

I've got the wheel braces as well as the engine and footrest mounts making this a really versatile bit of kit.

Good points....
Lifts various bikes with ease,
Can remove both wheels at once! (ideal if your going to get a new set of rubber or working on the brakes etc)
You can get underneath to clean etc
Easily adjusts to various heights, wee foldable seat is brilliant :)

Bad points....
Expensive! Especially if you get all the extra footpeg mounts etc (but worth it)
Hard to set up (but once done, it's sorted)
No storage area for nuts/bolts  tools etc

Making it better?
A tray of some description, clip on at top of post or something maybe?

I'd deffinetly recommend this if your in the market for a bike lift, 5 stars

FZS600 Fazer / vibration
« on: 12 May 2015, 09:54:11 pm »
Getting vibration through handlebars that I've not had before :(
Only thing I've done recently, or when I've noticed the vibration, is changing the rear footpegs from a 2000 model onto my 1998. Admittedly it moves the exhaust back a wee bit but don't think that's the problem but I could be wrong, so any of you guys got any ideas as to what's happened?
98 bike, original exhaust, standard air filter, 24000 miles.
Do feel it coming on even after a short run, 10 miles, to work and I do like to use the rev range and done so before changing pegs.
Cheers.

FZS600 Fazer / handlebar risers
« on: 09 May 2015, 07:44:16 pm »
Has anyone done this in the way I'm thinking.....

I don't want just take off the handlebars, put on a 'spacer' bracket then put handlebars back on.

My thoughts on it is unless you get an exact match of the metal, they look ugly :(

I was thinking along the lines of using the bolts in the yoke, extending them with some sort of extension, thus keeping the shape and original handlebar clamps in situ. I can get stuff machined so that's not the problem, was just wondering your thoughts on it.

General / What's your cheapest tool in your garage?
« on: 06 May 2015, 10:00:11 pm »
This cost me absolutely nothing and it's a godsend at keeping my nuts, bolts, washers and the like together when I'm tinkering away on the bike.

It's just a tray from one of those ready meals and so can replace it easily. :lol

Just wondering what do you have that you use that's handy and didn't cost you anything?

For Sale & Wanted / Oxford luggage for sale
« on: 26 April 2015, 08:20:53 pm »
Hi.
Selling my expanding Oxford lifetime tank bag and separate bumbag.
This is a great bit of kit that I only used a couple of times before changing my bike for one with panniers and top box so this was put up the loft and forgotten about till I came across it lying in a box.
No use to me anymore so thought I'd put it up for sale.
I've also got an option of 3 rain covers, don't know why I've got 3 but anyway, you can have first choice of....all clear, all black or clear top with black sides.
Magnetic base and has windows in all the top sections for a map or satnav.
All zips work and is in near mint condition. There is an integrated backpack straps on main bag and also a couple of other straps that you can see haven't even been used.
It can be used as a tailback if you use the bungee cord hooks, I don't have any bungee cords but they ate easily available direct from Oxford or generic ones from lots of shops.
This also has a detachable small bumbag which uses one of the straps to go round your waist.
The separate bumbag has a space for a visor, this bag has never been used.

Ideal for your touring this summer.

Don't be shy if you have any questions or want more info or pics, just pm me.

Looking for around £60 plus postage for the lot
I'm in Glasgow.

General / decent seat
« on: 20 April 2015, 09:44:25 pm »
Hi, originally posted this in fzs600 section as that's what I have but guess anybody might be able to recommend a decent seat upholstery company in Glasgow(ish) area, as I'd like to be able to go and discuss my needs etc.
Background is that I just done a 280mile trip at the weekend with my boy as pillion.
I was getting a numb bum after about 30ish miles and after talking to my boy who's 13, age, not stone! Said he was sore too, so I think I need to get this sorted if I'm going to use this bike for weekend rides other than my usual 20 miles to work and back.
Thanks in advance.
