National Mileage Register
« on: 12 October 2016, 11:55:01 pm »
I'm looking at possibly buying a bike. I did a HPI check on it and it came up with a potential mileage discrepancy which has thrown a spanner in the works. It said that the bike had 120,000 miles and the mileage shown on the bike is way lower than that. Unfortunately there's no previous MOTs with it to prove the mileage but judging by the condition of the bike there's no way in my opinion it's done 120,000 miles. I was wondering how accurate is the National Mileage Register? Where do they get their mileage from?

Can you not look at the mot history on the .gov website, it will give you all the previous mileages on any mots registered on the system.
If you worried about falling off your bike, you'd never get on.

I had a look on there but the bike is older than 2005 so I don't think they have records on anything pre 05

I didn't realise they did a national mileage register. You learn something everyday.

I wondered why there was an optional box for mileage on the V5. Perhaps someone made a mistake when filling it in on one of the sales?

There is an MOT checker app you can download that shows all previous details. I know it works pre 2005 as I used it to get info on my 96 thundercat

Stick the reg into the MOT checker website. You will get the MOT history then with the mileage each year for the last few years.

looking back at my paper MOT's and one year has lower mileage than the year before :eek I can only assume it was operator error punching it in.
