On my way back from picking up my first ever bike last weekend I got 4 nods from 4 bikes in the space of 5 miles. "I'm well in the biker's club!", thinks me. The next guy who comes towards me I give a nod just to see a motionless head fly past....gutted!! I almost wanted to do a U-turn and ask why he blanked me.
Never realised there was so much to it.
Was it a BMW rider? Only asking I used to ride a Beemer and nodded but have heard from other bikers at work that they can be snobby!

after reading this I realised i had never checked my tyre pressure since having bought my bike and the fella selling it had a brand new tyre put on it! (only had it since july!!) so of I went to nearest petrol station armed with my 50p to put air in.... how difficult was this evalution??? 4 petrol stations later i managed to find a nozzle that i could get into the wheel!!!
maybe i'm just not mechanically minded but is there an art or is this a general problem? Faszer 600 on 02 plate with original rims

Leading on from the thread asking about new lids, i have a question that may seem a bit vain but please humour me....
I have relatively short hair (normally #2 ) when i take my lid off at work I notice with my Shoei I have definate helmet hair. not that I'm too bothered about my appearance but does make it look like I have a Mr T haircut. any advice how I can reduce this? like I say not bothered when out on a ride out & looking round a town or when I am at home just at work & trying to be professional.. oh & if the answer is to grow it longer thats not an option because of the proffesion I'm in.

O M G why did I not find out about this years ago???? effortless, bugs disappear!!! gonna buy loads and see if it works on the cage!! but that will have to wait as I'm out having too much fun on my bike !!!

I have a Arai Quantum (which I like) but prefer Shoeis in general. Have the Arai due to it fitting me the best, again, it is one of the most important things in a helmet. Saw some Bell helmets (Eu spec, made in Italy), looked tasty, especially the carbon ones.
Shoei fits me perfectly. Excellent visor and ventilation system. I would go for an X-Spirit II if my X-Spirit needed replacing.
I had a Quantum E which fitted perfect but got old so I needed a replacement and got the Shoei X-spirit II which fited just as well it is lighter than the Arai by quite a bit but is bit noiser, with the Arai I didn't need ear plugs for short runs but the shoei I do on all runs. I went for a plain black but that was because I wanted a custom paint job on mine. also I must add that I have got small head (XS) and did try at least 10 different helmets on before buying. my problem was not all shops stock xs and to be told that the other model fits like the one they have on display I didn't like!

and as for the feeling dirty about giving a scooter the nod it is not about what you ride just as long as you RIDE
that been said most scooter rides are worse than the car drivers but not as bad as Truckers, kings of the road" more like court jesters
must say on the its not what you ride just as long as you ride - if your on a scooter and you are only wearing shorts t shirt and a helmet then yes your a pi!!ock! (yes this weather will bring out those idiots on bigger bikes too!!) also I cant understand why go to the lengths of wearing all the protective equipment if your not gonna wear gloves! if a scooter nods at me I will nod back but most are riden by 16/17 year olds that dont know about the nod!

Be careful with bus lanes - not all are open to motorbikes, without any rhyme or reason, so be sure to check the blue square sign as there are quite a few cameras set up to catch you out
thanks for all the advice everyone and cheers steeeve cant afford anymore points on my licence! I will let you all know how I get on and if any of you are heading down for the olympics let me know

not sure I will get adventourous as restyling cage body shapes, however as I will be armed n dangerous at certain times during the month the temptation to ride with full body armour and a 9mm sounds tempting but sure I would have the ARU's chasing me very quickly!!

I've been lucky enough to have been selected to work in London for the olympics as part of the Military security team.
not sure where I will be based and we are been taken there by bus. I intend to pick my bike up and then ride it home to Cornwall, or thats the aspiration however I have never riden in London. I have driven cars & mini buses so know that you have to have your wits around you.. are there any tips or words of wisdom that anyone can impart?

After 10 years it you would ache as riding a bike for any distance requires stamina. You have to admit you still enjoyed it though.
hell yeah!!! and i still do..waiting for that perfect weather so that I can ride home to Cornwall on a weekend!!

It doesn't matter where you go you will still have a huge grin.
I remember picking my bike up last July from Croydon then riding it back to Portsmouth! 1st time I had ridden in over 10 years. it took me the best part of 3 hours the 1st hour was a blast after that it became a bit of a drag tbh and when i got home I was frozen and aching. took it up to Basingstoke the next day and was grinning like a Cheshire cat. so my advice would be dont be too adventurous on your 1st ride!!

I do the same as Dilligaff or I pass the phone to one of the kids and tell them that the person at the other end wants them to sing that lovely christmas song they know! funny they dont last long as the other 2 then want to have a go and then end up arguing and snatching the phone from each other! my mate had one of these and he works for the Police in their internet computer division oh i wish he had recorded that call!! lol

I drive past Odiham "home of the UK's Chinook Force" as it says on the sign! see chinooks daily, as I drive home to Cornwall past Salisbury area see lots of other aircraft. swinging the latern time I remember been on the bridge of one her majesty's war canoes at the tender age of 19 when a fairly elderly senior officer said to me "RO when the WOKKA WOKKA arrives give me a shout!" i stood there open mouthed not knowing what to say but must admit when the said helicopter arrived its blades did make that sound!!

i'm fed up with been accused of Panic buying! I fill up twice a week for my Cage & my Bike when I need it , and as the sun has been out that was on red too! I travel over 1000 miles a week to and from work and travel home to Cornwall to my family at weekends. Morrisons queue last night they had to have security directing traffic around the car park and this morning the queue was nearly completly round the car park! as its been stated on here the drivers have to give 7 days notice! and the reason for a strike is Health & safety issues not pay or anything not serious!

thanks for that Andy Clap I will print it off & stick it in my key case! I know what you mean Gingernutz, most of the time it doesn't bother me but sometimes i need to know what time it is when riding to see if the chippy is still going to be open!!

thanks for that. it doesnt look to bad to import it then, I know I only paid £1500 for mine n it's probably worth that I do love my bike n rather have it as to getting another out there! at the moment we still in the stage of yes we want to go, there are a few things we got to sort out over next 12 months or so but its something that we had both thought of independantly
