It could be the end of the Veggie Bacon and other crap we see in the UK if we follow the French on this.

Where will it end though?

No more veggie sausages or "steaks". No more veggie burgers either.
I guess the nut cutlet will have to go too as it could be confused with a lamb cutlet :pokefun

General / Gender discrimination
« on: 26 March 2018, 12:16:40 pm »

The company I work for, in my view, seems to have a disproportionate number of females in top jobs when compared to the rank and file people proportion. According to the link below they also appear to earn less than their male equivalents. Are they equivalent though? Do they have comparable skills (probably) and experience (may not be quite as much)? Why do I think this? Because it always seems to be a case of positive discrimination when jobs are advertised. Less experienced, but female, candidates get the job ahead of their male opponents in the job contest.

Now, with the information being published, I guess the next big thing will be another year or three of no pay rises for men whilst the women get a pay rise just to bring them in line with the mens salaries. :evil

General / Who wants some free tyres?
« on: 25 August 2017, 03:15:46 pm »

I have just received the following email from one of the BIG tyre manufacturers. (I highlighted the bit that probably important)

Every now and then in the UK we get the opportunity to trial some early sets of tyres that are not yet part of the Michelin product range.  Although they are the finished mass production product, not prototypes, the final development stage of the tyres is feedback from the normal tyre buying public, seeing how the tyres are received and perceptions of their performance from ordinary riders free from influence and bias.  This ideally also acts as a teaser for the wider public, alerting potential buyers to a new product and allowing for an independent and non biased review of them.
Your forum is a large, popular and well respected site, and we thought that you would be in a great position to possibly help us with this at some stage.  What we would suggest would be sending a pair of tyres for a forum member to try out.  They could be a popular and respected regular contributor, someone that tends to offer accurate reviews of kit and parts, or even yourself!  They don’t need to be tyre experts, but someone that racks up a lot of miles would probably be best.  What we would expect in return for the free set of tyres would be at least 3 reasonably detailed posts about the tyres, perhaps an early days report on their initial impressions, a second report once they’ve been used in the wet or different conditions, and a follow up or conclusion, with permission for us to use any images and quotes in our advertising.
If you’d be interested in helping with this we’d like to hear from you, and as and when we get any appropriate opportunities we’ll be back in touch.

General / soaking carb jets
« on: 06 August 2017, 04:47:02 pm »

Based on experience, if a jet is completely blocked with varnish, how long will it need soaking in carb cleaner before you can blow the crud out?

Or am I wasting money on the cleaner and better off buying new jets?

FZS600 Fazer / Carb jets
« on: 06 August 2017, 02:19:45 pm »

Ok, so my sons FZS600 has been sat around for far too long and as a result the carb jets are all blocked with lovely green varnish.
Soaking in carb cleaner doesn't seem to be working so I am trying to locate replacement jets but struggling to identify what each one is called. Last time I took a carb apart there were only two jets (idle and main) but fowlers seem to have several listed and the exploded diagrams do not seem to help much.

From their website I think the one with the yellow circle around is #14 (jet main # 115). This one is now clean and clear of varnish.
the purple circle is #7 (jet, pilot #12.5)
the orange one though I am struggling a bit with. I think it is #8 (jet, main 0.6)

This is where the trouble begins. I can find #115 and #12.5 on various sites selling jets but cannot find 0.6. Any suggestions?

General / Foccin Scammers
« on: 31 July 2017, 11:50:57 am »

Twice this year my in-laws have been taken for mugs.

The first time, costing about £10K, they were scammed into getting a thermodynamic water heater on the basis they would save electricity. I calculated it would take about 20 years to recoup the cost in saved electricity. The in-laws are well into their 70's so will never see that!

This time, two weeks ago while we were on holiday, some other bastard came round to clean the gutters. On doing that, he "noticed" some problems with the roof and gave the father-in-law a lift to the bank to get several £k in cash to pay for materials etc.
the next day they started by ripping all the tiles off the roof and took him to the bank again. This time the cashier realised what was going on and called the police. The fraudsters did a runner leaving the roof with no tiles on. feccers

We got back from holiday a week ago but obviously they were too ashamed to admit anything so we didn't find out till the Mrs went round on Friday night. cue lots of running around this weekend to make the place watertight again but too late to save the ceilings in two of the bedrooms. Now we have to find rofers and cladding people to put it all right.

And to top it all, the insurance company don't want to know as the fraudsters were given permission to do work.

FZS600 Fazer / Black Widow or Delkevic
« on: 27 July 2017, 08:32:25 pm »

My downpipes have split at one of the welds so need a new set. I could do with a replacement to the standard can too.

Delkevic and Black Widow  both do full systems for under £300 but which one would you recommend?

This weekend sees me off on my jollies again. This time will be a little bit different though. A couple of fellow foccers will be meeting up in France for a couple of days of feccing around on the lovely Normandy/Loire tarmac.

Should be a good few days with Trevor, Kev and Martin.

Had to nip out at lunchtime and thought I would take teh FZS600 as it is now taxed. As I approached a set of lights , and several cars back,  a brand new Audi TT was at the front and went for it when the lights changed only to have to brake for the next set. What did I do??

I filtered up to the front and left him spinning his wheels scrabbling for grip the next time the lights changed as I left him behind :rollin

My £450 bike beats your £50K TT :rollin
