As a qualified electrician with over 34 years experience , and a Niceic approved contractor , 6mm sheathed flat cable will not carry 60A , the maximum rating from table 4D5 of the requirements for electricians is 47A reference method C clipped direct , it is 34A reference method 100 above a plasterboard ceiling covered by thermal insulation not exceeding 100mm in thickness . Replacing a damaged cable is not notifiable but using the junction box would make it so .
As it is a 8.5kw shower you will get away with the 6mm cable .
If you go down the route of getting  an electrician in and having it notified  , you may need to have an 30mA  RCD  installed and the protective bonding  upgrading  , this will be expensive .
I would join the cable as previously stated , and categorically deny having any electrical work done if you have to make an insurance claim  .

There you go proper advice from a real lecky. I like you when doing stuff like to make sure I am doing it to the book and thats why i know some stuff.
Perhaps his bonding is already to spec--- are we talking 6mm upgraded to 10mm

I would go for the bigger one to make your life easier when dealing with fat cables. Dont think it need to be ip rated though - but wont hurt either imo

So in theory there is only about 2m of cable (6mm) in the void with the insulation.  I've had to make a hole in the ceiling to get to the cables (the whole in in what used to be the airing cupboard and is now just a cupboard so it can't be seen).  Because it's not seen I can leave the new junction box out of the void and just have cables up there.

That sound ok to me. The bit about not having the cable under insulation (I think ) is just best practice and one of those "when practicality allows" grey areas

Dont forget to use the old cable to pull the new one through

So to get this right in my mind you have a "normal " attic space but also a dormer with that space between ceiling and flat roof being 150mm. If this is so I would perhaps cut the cable at the point in the normal attic space and join it their for easy access and inspection and run the new cable as one piece through the 150 gap so there is no junction boxes in this space which I assume is also filled with insulation.

DISCLAIMER --- I am not an electrician. And to the letter of the law I dont even think you are allowed to mess with stuff in a bathroom yourself.

« on: 31 August 2015, 01:04:43 pm »
They are quite sensitive to too much choke I've found and it will only make starting harder sometimes if you persist with it.
At this time of year I only apply the choke briefly and sometimes only half on, just to get the engine going, then maybe hold the throttle slightly open with the choke off to warm up a bit before riding.

...slightly open meaning approx the normal idle speed of the engine when hot ;) .

 :agree

Yep turn off what little choke was used almost straight away and use the throttle as the engine will not be idling at the normal speed but if i try to give too many beans at this stage before the engine is ready it will bog down. Gently dose it awaking the beast

What physics are at play --- why is it that any vibration loosens a nut and not tightens a nut.

Yes I agree with esetest, re the question on shower Kw 6mm cable may not be big enough.
I think the issue with junction boxes and the A rating is more to do with the size of the terminals inside and the available space in the box to bend and position 10mm/6mm cable.

When you say the switch jammed would that mean that perhaps a piece of metal inside has come away and leading to the shorting causing the burnout. I dont see how just being on would cause an issue unless the cable is the wrong size for the shower. Mine is 10mm for a 9Kw shower and also no part of the cable in the attic lays under insulation.

Yes you need to undo the two hex bolts on the left as well as loosening the gear change leaver bolt ( mark the position on the shaft first) then slide off the whole lot.
The 10mm - i think hex bolt at the back of the kick plate from factory is fecking tight of tight town tighty so if yours is loose then it must of been removed in the past and not put back tight enough also it should have from factory a locktight on it. Take it out aply  locktight and do it up to tight - tighty town, tight

Left it in the garage as it was peeing it down this morning :(
But on a brighter note....
I ordered my new seat a few days ago, and was delivered to my work today so I duly got home and put it on.
I'm very pleased with it :)

Did your bike fall over?  :lol
Nope, why you asking that?
Picture loaded correct way up from where I'm looking, maybe your lying on your side?  :lol
Well I must be laying with Darrsi  :biker because its on the piss for me too

I think we all feel that we have been by your side getting our knuckles mashed with you and your posts will certainly help others.

But its a big shame that you forgot to paint it black as that is the colour for a proper fazer

You're meant to use the rear brake when stationary, it's just not advisable to hold the front brake on for long for this very reason.

The thing then is that its foot off brake-- front brake on, then right brake foot down and left foot up to go into 1st.
Whereas me - into 1st - right foot up at biting point and - gone and I havent worn out my bulb  :smokin

There's always the chance of a hotspot on a disc, normally caused by holding the front brake on when stationary, pad residue gets deposited on the disc through heat which will create a raised area for the pad to grab on.

No actual help but I have always thought sitting with the brakes on would do some sort of harm but didnt know what. So long as the incline is not to much I sit with my right foot on the floor and my boots shin section behind the foot rest so I dont roll back

There was a debate here not long ago about the use of Polite vests and other sudeo police markings, and I said then that I wouldnt wear one because of the risk of bad reactions from others, as has been demonstrated here. Mr baron has took it upon himself to chase down the biker  (who was just going about his business) for the sole purpose of slagging him off.
Also
He says "we will catch up with him in a minute" and then has the audacity to say to the pedestrian "where the fuck are you going" when in his haste to catch up almost hits the pedestrian.

My daughter also took her car for MOT yesterday and the mot database system is down and canot be added. The old system has come to the end of its contract and the new one is as always with tec "not fecking working"
She was given a department of transport printed document saying that the car has passed its mot but has not been entered into the database and as such she should carry this document as proof of MOT untill it can be entered into the system proper and a proper mot certificate will be posted out once entered.
