General / Selling Fazer dilemma: advice please
« on: 14 June 2018, 05:21:49 pm »
Hi guys,
Sad times but I've barely used my '02 Fazer 600 in the past year so time to sell. The problem is the Fazer has been stood in a mate's garage since last autumn and now isn't running properly. It's ridable, but doesn't accelerate cleanly (it kinda 'chugs'). I've been told the carbs are probably blocked cos it's been stood so long. I'm no good at mechanical stuff myself, so would have to pay to get it fixed.

So my dilemma is: is it best to try and sell it cheap as it is, or pay possibly £200+ to get it in tip top condition and then sell?

I've no idea what the market is like for old gen 2 Fazers these days. I've looked at prices on eBay but they seem to vary hugely. A local bike dealer has offered me £750 for it. I don't mind letting it go cheap to avoid the faff of having the work done and selling it privately, but £750 seems ridiculously low!

Thoughts??

Just about to get an '02 Fazer 600 and need a Givi rack for it... plus any reasonably priced bits and bobs to tartify it a bit - a nice sounding and looking can, a hugger, a double bubble screen, anything else that looks nice and is cheap... ;)

I'm based in Leicestershire.

For Sale & Wanted / SOLD: cheap gen 1 Fazer 1000, red, £1,700 ono
« on: 02 May 2013, 12:48:14 am »
I’ve decided to go back down to a Fazer 600 as I test rode a mate’s recently and it’s more light and fun for a 5’4” girl like me than the heavy thou. I thought I’d advertise the thou cheap on here for a quick sale as it needs an MOT end of July and needs a few things doing to it (nothing mechanical, mainly cosmetic) and I thought a Foccer might like to do it themselves and sell it on for a profit. Otherwise it’s me paying a dealer to do it before I sell it, and I’d rather avoid the hassle.

Year: 2001 (Y-reg)
Mileage: 30k
Tax: Nov 2013
Former owners: 3
MOT: 25 July 2013

It already has 2 of the best mods you can do to a thou:
* Ivan’s slip on jet kit, fitted by our very own Foccer Mike Greatorex (Falcon 269). Improves low-mid range torque and power delivery, plus I think it’s made the bike less vibey.
* R6 shock fitted, significantly improves the handling as recommended by lots of the guys over in Fazer 1000 corner (see thread here: http://foc-u.co.uk/index.php/topic,151.0.html). Shock has only done about 1k miles. BUT I kept on the standard dog bones which has the effect of lowering the bike. Unless you're a shortarse like me you'll probably want to complete the mod and put the bike back to standard height by getting the specialised dog bones from devilsyam here on the forum, which he tells me are £40 delivered.

The bike is in overall excellent condition for age and has weathered well. The engine is sweet with no rattles, and I’ve never had a problem with the bike in the 2 years I’ve owned it. Apart from the mods mentioned above plus a fender extender the bike is standard.

What it needs:
* New back tyre. It’s square and approaching bald in the middle ;) The local dealer told me it also needs a new front tyre, my Fazer thou-owning mate said it doesn’t and they were just trying to rip me off. I’ve taken a photo if that helps.
* New front mudguard. The front was snapped off while it was parked on the road, presumably by some idiot car driver who did not see fit to leave their details :( The local dealer has quoted me £100 to replace it, but maybe it’s possible do it cheaper yourself.
* The dealer also told me it’ll need new chain and sprockets for its MOT. Again, my mate says it doesn’t and they were just trying to make money out of me. I don’t know who’s right so I can only say what others have said.
* The choke broke literally a few days ago. I put it on and felt something ‘ping’, so I presume the cable has snapped?

There’s a few other cosmetic imperfections which I’ve tried to show in the photos, fairing cracks under both indicators which have been plastic welded but are noticeable if you look, a few chips to the fairing paintwork where it was dropped from standing in a gravelly car park.

I’m based near Loughborough in Leicestershire, or could also arrange collection from my mum’s in Heanor, Derbyshire if that helps. £1,700 ono.

I've posted this pic in General but thought i'd put it here too in case you've missed it (original post was asking how much a new mudguard would cost rather than how to make the damaged one look a bit better).

So here it is, the result of some ijit who can't park and obviously has no conscience either as they didn't leave their details. If anyone has any ideas how to make it look a bit better til a cheap replacement turns up on ebay please let me know.

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Smashed mudguard - where to get a new one?
« on: 15 November 2011, 06:50:34 pm »
Some ******* has hit my bike while it was parked on the road outside my house (and, naturally, driven off without stopping  >: ). The front mudguard is smashed, there doesn't seem to be any other damage tho I've only been able to look at it in the dark.

Now, I have no idea how much a front mudguard costs or how difficult it'll be to get one for such an old model (gen 1 Fazer 1000, red). I've had a quick look on fleabay but there's none in the right colour, and I haven't even been able to find one by googling. Can anyone suggest where I could get a replacement one from and how much they are, either new or second hand? I've got a £400 excess for accidental damage so no chance of claiming it on insurance, so I need to keep the cost as low as poss.

General / Where best to get a seat cut down? (East Mids)
« on: 14 October 2011, 03:40:23 pm »
I need to get my Fazer thou's seat cut down a bit (actually mainly cutting out width at the front, as well as a bit of height) to accomodate my short girlie legs. I am too scared of wrecking the seat to do it myself with the electric meat carver  ;)

Can anyone suggest anywhere in the East Midlands that would do a good job and also not too expensive? I am near Loughborough, so somewhere in Leics/Notts/Derbys would be best. Cheers  :)

Ok so I had a lowering kit fitted to my gen 1 Fazer thou and stupidly lost the original dog bones  :o . Now I'm fed up of it handing like poo and want to fit an R6 shock but I need to put standard dog bones back on. Can't even find any on Ebay. If anyone has anyone they could sell me (or knows where I could get 'em cheap) please let me know. Cheers.
