Snow Hype in the Media
« on: 13 January 2017, 06:21:04 am »
Was watching local tv news prog for the midlands last night-anyone would think we were about to experience Siberian whiteout conditions. Looked outside this am to a light sprinkling  of the white stuff-ok its probably going to be icy on the minor roads today but why do they have to act like foretellers of the Apocalypse?!
Suppose all the schools will be closed & it will be gridlock on the roads!

Yeah, i looked outside earlier, i'm located in Harrow, NW London, and it's clear, no snow at all.
Although they were spot on for a change yesterday when they said it would snow at 5pm.

Same up here on the east coast (Cleethorpes, Lincolnshire) we've been threatened with Snow, flooding, apocalypse etc but when I left my house at 6am, not even a frozen windscreen!! At this rate unless the wind picks up considerably I will be using the bike to get work

And then you get people who can't drive in the sprinkling of snow. Some eejit doing 30 mph on a perfectly clear lane of the dual carriage way. OK the other lane was snowy but come on! Then a bit later I had someone right up my arse on a snowy side street, until I went round the roundabout sideways.  :lol

It's terrible down here in the Forest of Dean. Almost quarter of an inch thick! Luckily us southerners are made of sterner stuff, I will somehow get in to work..... ;)

Lasted all of about 45mins here and now most of it is slush.
Got the same problem though, idiots afraid of a wet road doing 20mph everywhere 😫😣😖

The cancellations are probably more to do with the claim culture in this country.
That's my feeling anyway.

I have though that for years about the reporting hype, reporters are sent out to stand next to a road and say that there are major traffic problems when over their shoulder its moving perfecty well AND how the foc did you get there also.
Another one they do is stand out in the snow for 10 or 15 mins and let the snow build up on their hair and clothes before doing the piece to camera - the amount of snow on them simply does not correspond to what is falling. If that was rain they would use an umbrella when they report.
Another one is to stand in the deepest part of the snow they can find by the side of the road - near a fence where it has blown up to - again look over there shoulder and see a perfectly clear road.
Its all fake News
I don't do rain or threat there of. dry rider only with no shame.

these weather reports do me 'ed in. The Mrs flapping about icey roads and telling me to take the cage coz its windy and its going to ice up. On top of that, the whole East coast evacuated due to an impending storm that's going to bring a tsunami and kill thousands.......none of it foccing happened.

:lol   Yeh..jaywick was the town that they were trying to evacuate,as you say it didnt happen, listened to an expert on the radio who explained the threat was from an unusually high tide possibly "surging", high winds and heavy rain.......he went on to explainthat the forcast was correct , its just that they did'nt happen at the same time   :lol

The reporters then even spun it to say that "The town escaped the worst" when it never happened in the first place. Fake News
