FZS600 Fazer / Squawking noise on and off
« on: 22 March 2019, 02:49:50 pm »
Hi, have an fzs600 with 31k on the clock. Have had it for around 6 years with no major problems. Just recently I have had a squawking noise intermittently when riding. The noise comes in short bursts. Usually just after accelerating. At first I thought was Some sort of wind noise but now am sure it’s mechanical. Any ideas? Brakes all look good. I thought maybe headers, loose plug, head gasket. Sounds like a budgie being strangled. Not like brake squeal at all. Thanks for any help  :) . It is hard to check when riding with lid on etc.

FZS600 Fazer / Non starter
« on: 31 May 2018, 12:57:13 pm »
Hi, A couple of weeks ago I took the bike out the garage as usual and she would not start.  Eventually she roared into life just as the juice was about out.  Since then no probs until this morning came out and turned her over until the battery was deid.  So turned the car round gave a her a jump and she started like a dream.  I stuck a yuasa battery in maybe 3.5 years ago and would not expect this to fail after such a short period.  Although the fact that she started with a  jump makes me think that the problem is not fuel related.  I have done nothing to the fuel system in 4/5 years.  I used to check alternators in cars by seeing whether the headlights were getting brighter when revving.  Might do that tonight.  I don't want to stick a new battery in then knacker it.

Any ideas?

FZS600 Fazer / DID VX chain rivet
« on: 13 March 2018, 07:24:53 pm »
Hi, do I need a special did rivet pin to fit a did vx chain rivet? I will get verniers in it tomorrow but to be honest I don’t think there has been much movement.
I noticed there wasn’t too Much displacement on the pin heads when I nipped them up last week.  I then checked the did pdf sheet on line and it states this special rivet pin must be used. The did tool is very expensive on eBay.

The standard tool that I used appeared a bit damaged after use, see photo.

FZS600 Fazer / Knocking through footrests when coming off the throttle
« on: 20 February 2018, 07:55:20 pm »
Hi All

As of yesterday my fantastic fazer has a knocking sensation coming through the footrests. This is not apparent so much when accelerating but occurs when coming off the throttle to slow down.

My guess is chain link sticking a bit but couldn’t see too much in the gloom tonight.

Any tips appreciated

FZS600 Fazer / help! strange noise
« on: 06 March 2017, 08:15:29 pm »
Hi, riding home tonight on my 02 plate fzs600 and started to hear a strange pinking raspy kind of noise. When I open the throttle hard it sounds like a piece of tape is in the front wheel spokes/spars. Looked for something loose but there is nothing. When I got home and removed my lid I would say the engine is sounding way more clanky than normal. The oil is half way up the sight glass so ok from that point of view. Just might be an exhaust pinhole or manifold leak but also sounds like it maybe from the engine casing. I have had the bike over 3 years and it has not missed a beat. It has 26k on the clock and seems to be still pulling well. Any advice appreciated, thanks 😌

FZS600 Fazer / chain tension
« on: 04 May 2016, 10:48:29 pm »
After refitting my rear wheel my chain seems a  tad tight. I would say somewhat less than one inch play in the chain slack. Their seems to be a different sound hum vibration thing going on at the chain now too. My method was to put the adjusters to their original positions then nip up the rear shaft nut. Before nipping the chain play seems perfect...around an inch. Tightening the main nut on the rear shaft seems to be pulling in slack on the chain. Any tips gratefully appreciated.

FZS600 Fazer / Rear brake caliper - piston will not go back in....
« on: 22 April 2016, 07:30:15 pm »
Hi

Rear braking was ultra poor so bought some pads and took off the caliper. Pads fine but pistons filthy.  Pumped them out a bit to clean with toothbrush and smother in red grease.  Now can't get the stiff side back in.  Haven't tried a G clamp.  Any tips please to get the piston back in?  Am tempted to buy a new caliper..... :'(   Any good sources for new calipers?  Many thanks.

FZS600 Fazer / front brakes rock hard?
« on: 20 March 2016, 05:41:51 pm »
Hi, replaced a dodgy speedo sensor cable today. In doing so cracked open the brake fluid banjo connection on the rhs caliper just for a second releasing pressure from the system. Then proceeded to pump the front brake lever while the lhs caliper was detached. Anyway managed to get the job done and all put together well. Now when I operate the front brake there is literally no travel and the brakes are very effective. I suspect I have just bled the system a little however I would appreciate any info regarding stuff to check or watch out for. The lack of travel in the brake lever feels weird but the brakes work very well although my hand is at full stretch.

FZS600 Fazer / white gunge on oil plug inner surface
« on: 14 March 2016, 10:44:59 pm »
Bike is pulling great but i recently opened the oil plug to find some white gunge that i have not seen before. I am concerned the head gasket is away. Any thoughts, checks or tips on this much appreciated.

There is not much in the way of back pressure ie any puffing out of the oil fill hole.

02 plate Fazer -
Hi, my problem is that my speedo needle is behaving erratically. Sometimes bouncing around when I ease off the throttle, sometimes not registering at all. Right now it's working fine but I know this won't last. Any advice much appreciated.

« on: 26 July 2015, 09:40:55 pm »
Hi

Am fairly new to the forum and am looking to service my bike. I have ordered a Haynes manual which will be here by the end of the week. Is there any such material in the forum or at are there any YouTube links for fz600 work?
