My Fazer went some time ago, (now on a Multistrada but can't help popping back to this forum occasionally), but I remember well your Ivanising session held years ago in my garage where several Foccers including myself benefitted from your expertise in modding their bikes.
You've been a great source of knowledge on here so thanks for all your input and best wishes for your motorhome travels.

On the same firework theme . . . I once attended a friends bonfire/firework party in his field and took responsibility after the fireworks were finished of gathering up all the spent firework rubbish to leave the place tidy. Included in the accumulated trash was the rather large 'box' remains of one of those multi shot type fireworks that fires a large number of individual small rocket type fireworks sequentially. In the dark I failed to notice that the device had not fully 'fired' and a significant number of the individual rockets were still intact. This didn't matter at all until I threw the rubbish on the still burning remains of the bonfire surrounded by a crowd of onlookers. Cruel luck determined that the box landed on its side and began launching rockets horizontally. The crowd were initially startled and then horrified as burning projectiles hurtled towards them from the burning embers. Thankfully no one was hit and I can look back in amusement at the chaotic scene of people diving for cover and frantically running in all directions. I'm sure for many it was the most memorable bonfire they've ever attended

The unfortunate thing is that the most ebay can do to crap buyers is allow negative feedback or close an account, and they don't seem very ready to do that. Even then that's no real deterrent to the occasional buyer as they can just open another account. In fact I bet some people have different ebay accounts for buying and selling so they can bugger about as a buyer without impacting their selling feedback. With hindsight one thing I would do in future, if I chose to sell something significant again, is only allow buyers with decent feedback records. Both buyers who dipped out on me had zero feedback history. Hindsight is a great thing!

Yet another ebay time waster won the auction so in the end sold to second bidder. Just delivered and he has reported he is a very happy man. A lot of bike for the money and if I say so myself a b****y good buy. But hey ho that's ebay for you. After this experience with 2 failed top bidder auctions I'm not sure I would go this route again but one lives and learns. There just seems to be too many inconsiderate/non genuine bidders about. I use ebay myself as a buyer but I would never consider bidding unless I was in the position to genuinely buy. Unfortunately that doesn't seem to be the case with many bidders and as a seller you can easily end up with listing fees and no sale. I take consolation in that it was a bike that served me well and the eventual buyer seemed a decent guy so its gone to a good home.

I have one, arms and base plate. Arms just re-painted. Baseplate has one original rubber missing, replaced by a home made item. All bolts included. I'll do for same £55 delivered.

Having retired I am somewhat sadly selling my faithful thou which has been a daily ride in anticipation of a new bike to enjoy as a pleasure bike. Not quite sure what it's worth so gone the ebay route. Despite the mileage it's been a great bike, is well specified and must still be a good bike for someone who knows how to continue to look after it. My rear bearings failed at 16k.
Bike is well cared for and not even ridden 2-up.
Mechanic said just one of those things - an item that seems to have a very variable life span. So failure of rear not necessarily indicative of any impending issue with front.

Solution: Replace with legal size plate. Lesson learned.
It may seem petty, but it's the law. If it had been a van towing away your bike after stealing it, and someone said...I couldn't quite see the plate as it was so small....
I accept the plate is technically at fault and it's a fair cop - BUT it is perfectly legible, has a proper font, layout and spacing but is just scaled down slightly, not in an attempt to make it less readable, but admittedly to make it look better (full size plate looks pig ugly). The only thing that slightly annoys me is that there were in the same rush hour traffic no doubt several personal plate cars with dodgy letter spacing etc. but it's the bike that gets selected for a pull . . . .

Funnily enough I mentioned to the copper that my bike had been through several MOTs no problem. His response was that most MOT testers are not really interested and would be unlikely to point it out - they focus on mechanical issues.

IMHO they may have stopped you hoping to find something else wrong, if you have a dodgy plate you may also have a dodgy exhaust, tax, insurance etc. etc.
Possibly, they did a routine tax, insurance check etc, but if that was the reason, when everything else checked out, why not just let me off with a warning instead of pushing through with the fixed penalty?

If you can clearly see the plate and read the VRM with ease at 57 feet, then challenge it. Its not in the publics interest to prosecute you if its lawfully legible.
An interesting perspective. But the point is - it may be legible but not lawfully so, as it doesn't conform to a clearly defined technical specification. I suppose electing for a court hearing instead of paying the fixed penalty might result in them opting to not prosecute, but if they do I couldn't see a "it's legible" sort of defence succeeding.
