FZS 1000 EXUP Headers? 5LV / 1C2
« on: 07 April 2019, 01:46:43 pm »
Always thought (and still think they are) that all original headers, 2001 to 2005 models are exactly the same and all years are obviously interchangeable, but at present there is a set on e bay, brand new being sold by Fowlers Yamaha with the part number pre-fix 1C2 (usually 5LV).  I emailed them as they said that it would only fit a 2005 model,  they assured me that Yamaha state it is only for a 2005 model! I believe this could possibly simply be a superseded part number, which sometimes happens as parts change in a very insignificant way.  Any thoughts?

Not that I am thinking of buying them!  :eek

I think the the 2005 bikes had a CAT fitted inside the exhaust system.  I'd assumed it was in the rear half / tailpipe part, but perhaps its actually in the midsection of this part?

Bargain....

Yes the 05 has a cat fitted.   I think you are correct about the cat being in the silencer end on an 05 FZS. If you look at Fowlers on line parts book the 05 silencer is a different part No............ But if you look at the down pipe assembly it is the same number and prefix (5LV) as all other years!  Where the 1C2 for the 05 comes in I have no idea!   :rolleyes

P.S.  Why is it that when I try to quote something my own text ends up in the highlighted area as well.  Love bikes, hate computers! :'(

I think the "restriction" is in the 2005 headers. If I remember correctly Mike (Falcon) said there's a series of small diameter tubes in the end section of the headers where the silencer would slip on. I think the effort to remove them was more trouble than the value of any potential gain. Maybe that's why the numbers are different.

That makes sense, it could be a simple error but I cannot find an on line parts diagram foe an 05 model showing the down pipes with a 1C2 prefix, only 5LV.  :rolleyes

Very well done finding that.  ;)   Strange why Fowlers u.k. website parts book shows it as 5LV for an 05.  Possibly all the 05 bikes were built with the down pipe outlet with the tubes in them for the cat in the silencer for Europe, including u.k. bikes, but because, we do not measure bike emissions, the replacement is specified as the straight through pipe 5LV.   Only my twisted thinking! The main thing is they will all fit the bikes perfectly.
