Does it make a difference if the screw spacers go into position before the rubber pad as it seems to show in drawing?.

I can see that the centre stand rubber rests on a bracket on the OEM silencer link pipe, so hopefully the aftermarket ones do too ?.

Yes aftermarket link pipes come with bracket/bump stop.

Buy a end can with a removable baffle then you can take it out if you want or leave it in.

Also you will need a universal joint 1/4 drive added to the end of the 1/4 drive extension bar.

Click on downloads & select manuals on the left, check pedal height adjustment & black plastic brake light switch with wires going to it at rear of pedal can be rotated up or down to alter when lights come on. Smile

I have so far managed to keep my 21 year old originals (see my signature ) so far by repainting and filling a couple of pin homes in the collector area. But I have already soaked and removed the nuts to be ready for a change. I soaked mine for a few weeks after rides when it was all hot/warm, and used a syringe to target the nuts and get right in there including the back of the nut header plate.
You can get acetone from the chemist or ebay as it is used in fibreglass resin --- things

And most nail varnish removers.

A carb balance maybe required after fitting new downpipes.

Delkevic are fine would prefer than Blackwidow, also use a penetrant spray as will be better than WD40.

I would cure the rust then hand paint or spray (as it's not seen I prefer to hand paint for thicker coverage) with a metal paint i.e hammerite smooth black gloss or satin, no primer required.

Lighter coat around mounting holes if it's gonna cause a problem & mask the rubber stopper.

ah right so looking at darsi's post, must have meant after the fzs600 era , 8 mm studs and nuts ?

After chatting with my mechanic at the time he said that Yamaha realized that the 6mm studs were causing issues so with later bikes they made them 8mm, but i think it's just where they are taking the brunt of the elements combined with the hot/cold scenario that it's still inevitable that people will have problems dismantling them if they're left untouched for a long time.
In hindsight it would make perfect sense to undo the the header nuts once or twice a year to clean and grease them up to avoid any trouble, but obviously that is not normal behaviour to most people. The 8mm studs still seize too as well, but probably don't shear so easily as the 6mm ones.

If Yamaha did change them to 8 mm then they didn't change the studs / nuts or cylinder head part numbers on their parts system for the FZS600.

All years had 6 mm studs & nuts.

Oil level is checked without the spring in, fork held vertically, add oil then slide fork inner tube up & down to distribute oil fully in fork leg don't go by quantity of oil add to near then measure from top of fork tube down inside to get correct level (fork fully compressed).

Local hardware shop is about £3, Chain places probably more like £8 - £10 nowadays.

That sounds about right, but get one cut & if works get another cut as a spare.  Smile

Any decent key cutter should have no problem cutting a new one from your snapped key.

Buy them here instead, great to deal with and they specialise in brakes, both car and bike.
 https://powerhouse.uk/content/motorcycle-brakes/motorcycle-brake-caliper-seal-kits.php
Looking at their site they can do our rear brake rebuild for £45. Sounds good to me -send it in and let them do the whole thing and deal with any seized bits.

Got the brake seal kit from power house on order. And the brakes are fully taken apart and cleaned so they are ready to go back together.

Slippy, if you still have the Wemoto dust seals can you let us know if they're larger/difference between them & the Powerhouse ones when they arrive please.

Have you fully scraped out any corrosion that’s in the groove. Sometimes hard to see but can make the difference. I have known aftermarket dust seals to be a bit hit and miss, sometimes you can get away with reusing the old one. In a bind I’ve had them where they’ve expanded and cut a small section out, then glue back together. Not ideal but can work!

I scraped out all the corrosion, was like white dust. They really seem to just be around 2-3mm to big. The old ones are in the bin. Might try cutting and gluing.

Unfortunately this has cropped up before about rear brake seals from Wemoto .

Some models of bikes have their light beams set straight unlike cars etc & don't pitch to the left or right, not sure if the FZS600 is one of the though or if the beam can be adjusted. Which country are you going to.

It's just for me forks of me Fzs600 that's all

Yeah, but what does this fork seal tool do, removes the seal, pushes the new seal into the lower leg?, a tool that may not be required.

Yes that makes sense...i don't mind loosing all the brake fluid..probably needs to be changed anyway :lol

But the idea was that clamping/stopping the brake fluid from exiting the brake hose line was to make life easier having only air in the caliper to expel rather than the whole system (which by all accounts is a pig) then you can flush out the old fluid while filling with fresh.  Smile

To prove without doubt, apply 12 volts to the back of the blue wire connector with the ignition on. If everything works now take of the light switch and clean it. A touch of "Déjà Vu" here.

Aye, pack that in! a lot  on here have trouble speaking the Queens English let alone that fancy french stuff.  Cheesy

Thanks for advice Foccers...

I don't know of the seals in the rear master cylinder have ever been changed...is it a difficult job....??
It's not too hard, bleeding all the air out afterwards can be a PITA because of the U-bend path the fluid has to take, but you can loosen the banjo at the top of the master cylinder and let the bubbles out that way.

The air bleeding part might be easier if you leave the reservoir cap on, clamp the brake hose or undo the banjo bolt at the caliper & place end of brake hose into a plastic bag sealed with a elastic band ( don't operate the brake pedal) then when you reconnect the brake hose it will only be the air in the caliper to expel when bleeding.
This is for after changing seals in caliper.

Do you have a meter? If so check for 12v on the following on same 6 way 5 pin plug.Switch Ignition on and check for 12v on the Brown/red and the brown/blue by putting the probe into the back of the connector

If you get 12v on both of those then put the probe on the blue and turn the light switch on right handlebar to park that should supply 12v to the blue wire, now check the Blue/red also as it gets its 12v from the Blue/red via the ignition switch

If you get  12v on the Brown/red and Brown/Blue but not on the Blue or Blue/red the problem is in the light switch.

Right..
So with the ignition on the Brown/Red on the 5 pin switch has power, as does the Brown/Blue wire (which is on the 2 pin block??)
The Blue wire (which has small green spots on as well) does not have power with the ignition switch or the light switch in any position.
Blue/Red gets 12v in park position (but no other)So yes get 12v from Brown/Red and Brown/Blue (with the ignition on) , nothing from the Blue in any position and only with the key in park from Blue/Red.
So does that mean there is a fault in the light switch? Can someone confirm that the blue has green spots on? There is no plain blue but all the others have stripes on them. Also the Brown/Blue being on the 2 pin rather than the 5 pin?
I think we are making progress :) Thanks all

I would say that the switch is your problem try spraying some electrical contact cleaner in there first if that cures it strip the switch down to clean properly,as it is intermittent may just be dirty contacts.
