Have bikes really improved. I've been looking at the Gen 1 1000, last of the VFR 750s, the Blackbird, the 2002 Fazer 600, DRZ400 and the late carbed FireBlades. I reckon if these were still available new they'd sell by the bucket load (emission tests abandoned). Compare the new Z1000SX, a brilliant bike, with the Gen. 1 1000 and they aren't that far apart. If anything the Yamaha is superior in a lot of areas.

FZS600 Fazer / Re: Stuttering FZS600 (sorry)
« on: 06 December 2016, 09:04:46 am »
Hello DJ
Got the same problem with my newly acquired 2002 600. If I sit in neutral with the bike warm it revs smoothly but on the road has the standard faults except sometimes it is reluctant at higher revs as well. My TPS is fine, carbs were balanced recently by the previous owner but on inspection I have 9E plugs in (these are for a warmer climate as I understand) so have ordered some 8Es, along with a new air filter. If this doesn't work I'm going to do plug caps, petrol additive  then carb heater hoses. I'll update as I progress on the off chance that you are still having snags.
Cheers

FZS600 Fazer / Re: Fzs 600 pannier rails for Givi
« on: 30 November 2016, 08:46:54 am »
One trip to the suburbs of Manchester (is this the worst place to drive around in Britain ?) and I now own a Fazer 600 specificwing-rack, the Scottish Highlands now beckon, but not just yet.

Got one, I'd remove the advert if I knew how.
Givi Wingrack and fitting kit, or just a fitting kit, for a 2002 Foxeye 600 or a Sw Motech pannier rail set.
. I live in North East England..

FZS600 Fazer / Fzs 600 pannier rails for Givi
« on: 20 November 2016, 09:33:12 am »
Anyone fitted pannier rails to a Fzs600, I've read that the later ones fit with modifications but a lad at work reckons the Fazer thou Gen 1 ones almost fit. Got the chance of a nice 2002 600 but want to do a bit of touring and already have a set of Givi panniers. All info gratefully received.

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Re: Gen 2 Fz1s 12000 mile service schedule
« on: 29 October 2016, 04:20:22 pm »
Ended up with a full refund from the shop (more reasons than just the service) without any problems so cannot complain about the customer service after I decided that I wasn't happy, shop couldn't have been more helpful or professional; moral of the story is discuss the fine details exactly before parting with your cash. The bike hunt continues but probably going to wait until next year, unless a beauty comes along.

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Gen 2 Fz1s 12000 mile service schedule
« on: 18 October 2016, 03:44:00 pm »
Could someone with an original hard copy Yamaha service schedule tell me exactly what is done on the 12000 mile service please, I've seen a download but this doesn't tally with what the bike shop is doing for a full service prior to me buying the bike, it is 8 years old with 10k on the clock. Not getting a good feeling about the shop but I've paid in full, schoolboy error, too trusting.

Would be interested to hear your views of the Crossrunner as it is on my list of possible next bikes...

Thanks

Hello Jonesy
Assuming it's the new model you are after because that's what I had. 50 mpg easy, handle really well, comfortable , good 2 up, amazing lights, fast, sounds great, easy to ride.
Bad points, horrendous screen turbulence, get a really good test ride to make sure you can live with it, a set of Powerbronze screen adjusters and an aftermarket screen are a must, check out the crossrunner forum for loads of discussions as this is a known problem, heavy to push about but light to ride, too dear so be prepared to lose a lot of cash if you buy new. The v4 affected the nerves in my arm a bit. The horn and indicator buttons are the wrong way round.
To sum up, excellent, horrendous screen turbulence and too dear new, hope this helps.

General / FZ1S or Fazer 8
« on: 22 September 2016, 03:30:06 pm »
Gents
Have you had both and which is the best all rounder ? General zipping about , the odd pillion ride, the odd tour for 3 or 4 days, riding like a menace now and again. Just had a brief, but vey expensive, 6 months of new model crossrunner ownership so want my next bike to be the right choice. Key questions are is it fun, comfortable, mpg, range and reliable. I appreciate that most of these are answered elsewhere but someone who has had both bikes could give a good perspective.
All info greatfully received
Cheers

Fazer8 / FZ8 / Hard panniers and topbox
« on: 09 March 2016, 02:36:48 pm »
Gents,
Have you fitted hard panniers to your bike, if so what sort and would you recommend them, interested in fitment along with the official Yamaha topbox rac. If you have the official rack fitted, have you got the official Yam. topbox or will a Givi adaptor plate fit ? Does hard luggage effect your bikes handling a lot ?
Cheers
Carl
