Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Re: Gen 1 Fairing Hardware/Brackets?
« on: 21 March 2024, 06:44:51 pm »
Hi Bigmouth,

Congrats on the new Gen1.
I’m afraid that I can’t help you with regard to what hardware you’ll need to fit your aftermarket fairings. However I can say that, to the best of my knowledge, the gen1 never came from the factory with fairing lowers. Yamaha did an official belly pan as an optional extra, but no official fairing lowers.

HTH. 👍

Thanks very much for the update.
I’m sure that will prove useful to many on here in due course. 👍

Thanks
Are the top mount bushes replaceable on Ohlins?

I sincerely hope so?
Having currently got my other bike on the ramp, swapping out OEM suspension for a HyperPro Streetbox upgrade, I don’t really want the expense of replacing the Fazers Ohlins on top of that. 😟

Top work FZRNutter.
Hope the handling improvement rewards your efforts. 👍
I’ve got to take my Ohlins rear shock out over the next few weeks, to have a look at the top shock mount. I think the bush is knackered.

Stunning. It’s a shame that Yamaha can’t design and make something similar for us today.

Well done Julius for getting it sorted. Fingers crossed for many more trouble free miles.

Good to see you’re still loitering on these pages Mike, sharing your wealth of knowledge as ever. Hope you’re keeping well. 👍

With regard to bearings, this is a long time recommended supplier. I’ve used them several times for my Gen1 without issue.
Cant recommend specific items for the other issues for you, as they’re a bit more personal preference.
I’ve personally used DID chain and JT sprockets and EBC pads (not HH) without issue.

My gen1, along with many others I suspect on this forum, has been “Full Monty” Ivanised, so has a BMC air filter fitted.

Good luck getting it sorted.

Brilliant. Well done and congratulations Julius, on having a go and finishing the project yourself, in less than ideal conditions.

I seem to recall a set on here being sold a while back

You do indeed. I bought the set off of Mike (Falcon). Just need to get around to doing the job now. 😗

Haha, good idea!

My bike has 63 tkm on the clock. I have just bought it and the previous owner who had it for 2 years and didn't ride it much knew the lady who owned it before for 12 years. He told me that her husband did the valve check but that nothing had to be done. Since I took the bike apart anyway, I thought this would be a good time to find out myself and learn something new.

Thanks Julius, good to know. That seems to fit with many owners previous experiences that I’ve read on here.
Mainly why I haven’t thus far done mine, with only 32000 miles just passed. I will get around to it………..eventually! 🤗
You can’t rush these things…………….. I’ve only had it eleven years.

Great news!
Are you tempted to do a “Best of Three” valve check? 😁
Out of interest, what mileage is your bike at? And to your knowledge, have they ever been checked / had new shims before?

You could buy a Hotcams valve shim set and a vernier calliper to accurately measure the shims. Then you “should” have all you need to do it all in one go?
I have a set (which I bought off of here) to use, when I finally build up the motivation to do the job. Good luck. 👍

Great. Thanks for the links Julius.
I can’t imagine how difficult it must be to have to do that outside in a shared yard, leaving the bike outside whilst you wait for new shims.

Good to hear that you’ve nearly finished with the Ivan’s upgrade as well. Look forward to reading your thoughts once it’s finished and you’ve put a few miles on it. 👍

Great effort for having a go at it.

Be interested in having a look at the video if you’ve got a link to it that you could post please? Need to get around to doing mine at some point.

Sorry, I can’t help with how soon you’d need to be changing the shims, in order to avoid any damage, but I’m Sure somebody far more knowledgable, will be along soon to answer your query.

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Re: Electrical gremlins, please help!
« on: 19 April 2023, 04:45:55 pm »
Hi,

Clearly I don’t know what your exact symptoms are, but I recall numerous previous threads over the years suggesting checking & cleaning the various wiring block connectors. IIRC some of these are located under the near side fairing infill panel, others behind the near side side panels, but I could be wrong.

They can apparently corrode and go green over a period of time and thereby fail to operate as they should.

I also recall people mentioning issues with the ignition switch itself? If you do some searches on the forum, I’m sure that you’ll come across the various threads.

Some years back, I had a similar issue with my Gen1. Bike would run fine, then backfire and cut out. It would sometimes restart again and other times refuse to do so. After some investigation, an auto electrician disconnected  the aftermarket immobiliser and it has been fine ever since.

Hope you manage to get it sorted.

Regards

Allan

Looks cracking! As does your Gen1. Credit to you.
Always wanted one of the red / black ones and still keep my eyes out for one.
Not many about it seems, even less nice ones. 👍

If you have a search around on the forum, you will find somewhere, dyno graph comparisons between both versions and a standard Gen1 as well iirc?

This is the graph that I was referring to…….

After doing this mod for several years, I settled on enlarging just one of the three pilot bypass holes (the middle one) and set the mixture screws to 4 turns out.

Julius, as a new user to this forum you may not be familiar with the history of some of the forum users.

Mike (Falcon 269) somewhat underplays his status on this forum by his words above. Search his previous threads / posts and you will find that he has done literally hundreds of Ivan’s conversions for us UK Gen1 owners over the years.

I doubt there is anyone more experienced in the advantages / disadvantages / fitting of these kits on either this forum or the UK.
