Clutch / Neutral Switch?? Bike's Cutting out!
« on: 27 June 2016, 10:46:01 am »
Hi all,

Took bike out this morning after riding it home from it's MOT pass on Friday and it cuts out every time I put it in gear.

Sidestand up or down didn't matter, clutch switch apparently not working as it won't stay running with the clutch in.

Neutral light on when in neutral which makes me think the N switch is ok but as soon as I knock it into gear the bike dies.

Didn't have time to investigate as I had to get to work so thought I'd ask you lot so I can go home tonight and have a look.

Any help will be hugely appreciated

Side stand switch is knackered. Give it a good clean or bypass it.

I had a side stand switch issue recently, but it would start with the side stand up.
Give it a good degreasing as best as you can anyway, and make sure the plunger moves in and out freely.
It's located in a pig of a place though.

I have a new switch I bought still in my top box, but just couldn't get to the old one so ended up shorting the wires out to bypass it instead, and it's been fine ever since.
It's not ideal really but it'll do for now.

Thanks guys,

Had a clean; used pretty much a whole can of GT85 and destroyed a toothbrush but managed to clean the whole chunk ok crap out of it and got the plunger moving again so all good.

I now know to keep an eye on it and make sure it doesn't get clogged up.

Pretty stupid place to put it; directly in line of fire of all the fling from the chain.... and bloody difficult to get to!

It's in a truly horrible place, same as the sump nut i rounded off the other day 'cos you can't get a socket near that either, which is right next to it.  :groan
