Leaving indicators on?
« on: 14 May 2019, 07:35:02 pm »
Maybe it is just me but does anyone else find they leave their indicators on?  Why was the good old self cancelling 70s and 80s idea done away with?  Is there an easy to fit audible indication unit like on a car?  I am conscious of not cancelling them and feel I spend too much time looking down checking the idiot lights!  :o  Or are there bulbs in the idiot lights that can be changed to brighter ones, might help.

If at first you don't succeed, pull your foreskin ower yer heid!

They’ve not done away with them, my missus’s 2018 VFR has them.
I find it just a force of habit that I turn them off on my bikes.

I think you can get relays which beep but I have no experience of them.

I’ve got a habit of cancelling my indicators 4 or 5 times so it’s never been an issue for me.

Had a quick look, there's plenty of audible indicator gadgets on ebay from £7.

I had one of those beeping relays on my old 125, they definitely do the job, but you do feel like a bit of a prat when you're sat at the traffic lights in the middle of town!

Yep definitely had the problem and also can't understand why my 1980s Yamahas had self cancelling indicators but not the Gen1 as to me leaving them flashing is far more dangerous than not having them flashing at all (i.e. a car is not going to assume you are turning left and pull out in front of you if you don't have the indicators on but may if you've forgotten to turn them off and are still indicating a left turn) .

I bought one of the ebay beeping relays from a forum member that had fitted the appropriate connectors so it was plug & play so don't have the problem any more. Sat at traffic lights I'l cancel the indicators if they start beeping then switch them back on when the lights change.

Most recent bikes have them, based on time or distance. Trouble is, if leaving a motorway, if you put them on too early they cancel themselves at the wrong moment.
In the 60s and early 70s we used hand signals. Never forgot to cancel them  :lol

PieEater has hit the nail with the hammer, living in roundabout city as I do, it is the safety aspect  that troubles me.  Like the idea of a direct replacement audible relay, if one exists!  Anyone know if I can get one that does not need the connections altered?

This one looks like the correct connector is on it but just double check. Says it’s for a Yamaha scooter but it may be compatible :)
