Thanks for the part number should save some time..
I agree about spares prices good job the old yams don't break down that often!!

Hi guys
Not been on for a while so 👋

My gen 1 1000 has just started to leak from behind the front sprocket. I'm assuming it's the drive shaft oil seal. How much of a job is it? Haven't looked into it too much yet, thought I would seek the advise of one of you foccers!

I'm thinking it could 🐝be an engine out job to get access. Hope I'm wrong. Will be talking to my friendly mechanic tomorrow or may have a go myself.

Hi been away from the forum for awhile so hello to everyone!

Unfortunately the time has come to sell the old fazer. I went green and bough a kwacker z1000sx back in April 2017. I tried the MT10  but found the throttle too snatchy and the just didn't gel with it during the test ride but my god what an engine bloody awesome. In truth probably too much for me .Tried a zzr1400 and found that was tamer than the Mt!   In the end the z1000sx  was the best ride and value for me.a

Anyway let me get to the point.
I didn't need two big bikes so picked up a low miles xt600e  for my winter/ wet  weather bike. I then put the fazer on Piston heads for  sale. Couple days later got an email from a bloke asking for my best price what the condition was and why was I selling . I replied that the price was as stated and in line with similar bikes but if he was serious I may haggle a bit. I told him all the details on condition etc were in the advert.

Something didn't seem quite right  :(

Next day I got the reply
He accepted the price. Then went  on to say that he was unable to view the bike in person as he worked away a lot as net work engineer what ever that is. However he would contact his associate to send me a cheque for the asking price which would take 2-3 days to clear . After which he would arrange for pick up. He then ask me to send my name and address and mobile number.
I replied that I was only prepared to sell the bike face to face and for him to give me a contact number so we could talk . I haven't had a reply. Bear in mind my phone number is in the advert.

The spelling and grammar would suggest the "buyer" isn't English

Am I being stupid or IS this something anyone else has come across?

Ps the bike is still for sale on Piston heads and this forums for sale section :)

Hope you did'nt do too much damage to yourself and bike. Get back out there asap mate.
Went to watch the road racing in Skerries Ireland this year the commentators last words at the end were "remember guys ride safe on the way home its better to get there 30 minutes late than 30 years too early" .
Having just watched Micheal Dunlop and the rest of the guys ride those roads like gods there was nothing left for us to prove so we made "good progress" on the journey back

Cheers guys
good tip about the front sprocket pretty obvious when you think about it will be ordering one asap. Just been on the bearing site looks good. Don't suppose you know the size of the swing arm bearings so I can order them up before I take the bike apart. Use it daily so the less down time the better.
Been on the yamaha parts online site it has parts lists and diagrams of all models. Very good for getting part numbers instead of having to trust some spotty yoof in your local dealer getting it right. Trouble is you still have to go to your local dealer to order the parts and I've not got a lot of faith in mine. Went in last Bank hol monday for a h/light bulb for the fazer. The shop owner didn't have a clue where or what he was looking for and said to come back during the week when the parts guy was back!! He then waddled back outside to clean his AMG merc! Won't name names but if your from weston super mare area you know who I mean. What happened to Chewwie the parts guy he knew his stuff if you could understand what he was on about!

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / FZS rear swing arm bearings
« on: 02 September 2013, 04:14:28 pm »
Hi guys
It looks like my swing arm bearings are on the way out. I've got 2-3mm sideways play when pulling the chain up and down. Bike has 34k on the clock and I've owned it from new. Any tips on best way of doing it? Haven't got any prices on bearings yet but was going to fit gen yam ones as 34k isn't too bad a mileage is it? If anyone has fitted alternative makes of good quality bearings let me know.
Should I change the linkage bearings as well? There is a bit of up and down play but not too much about 1mm I'd say.
Also I've seen some comments on short wheel bearing life mine are still original and seem ok.Although I use the bike allyear round and don't use pressure hoses. Also I'm only on my 2nd chain and sprockets so not sure about the short chain life comments. Although I do use a scottoiler. And no I don't ride like an old fart! (not all the time anyway)

I'm going to do the work myself so anyone who has done this job let me know how you got on and what special tools I need to get.

Cheers :) :)

Just had a quick look on fleabay. And have to say you probably would by selling off all the extras but not sure you'd get 5k for the bike on its own. They seem to be up for around 4,700 4,800. Haven't looked at other sites like biketrader or pistonheads but would think they would be about the same.
I've used pistonheads before its a free ad site and I sold my KTM950 through them. But be warned the ads last a long time I put the bike on ebay thinking that the pistonheads ad was well gone. It was up for 4k on ebay the buyer viewed the bike and offered 3300 I declined saying I knew it was worth the 4k on the ad. He questioned this saying it was up for £3800 on pistonheads. He was right I had initially advertised it there for £3800 thought the ad had finished and put it on ebay for 4k. In the end we agreed on £3800 which was ok by me as I'd paid £3450 for it 2 years ago!! First time Id made money selling a bike!
Anyway I'd suggest putting it up for 5k or best offer and see what happens you can always say no to stupid offers. |The exhaust must be worth £500 And rack 100ish. I'm sure one of the foccers on site would be interested.
By the way why sell? Sounds like its hardly been run in!! :) :)

« on: 01 July 2012, 06:17:34 pm »
Cheers guys!
Yet again the foccers have come up trumps! Plenty to consider there. Think I may have come over a bit harsh regards the R6 shock. I do think it is a great value for money mod. I think I have been a bit spoilt by my other bike which I have recently sold :'( it was a KTM950sm that had a top spec WP rear shock and is the best handling bike I've ever owned in 23 years of biking. Had to sell one bike as doing house refurb and need all the cash I can get. The KTM had one or two reliabilty issues which meant it had to go as the Fazer has been faultless in 32000miles. Would not hesitate to get another KTM when I can afford it though great fun bikes.

« on: 01 July 2012, 05:45:51 pm »
Hi
What mods have you done to your bike? The speed triple is(was!?) on my wish list. Can't bring myself to part with my gen1 so going to upgrade suspension etc. Got an r6 shock, ivanised carbs ,venhill brake lines(nice quality kit) now need to upgrade forks, but you know that from our emails. Need to renew rear linkage bearings as there is a little bit of play there. Plan is to keep the fazer and next summer get a Triumph Scrambler! Going to rip all the chrome crap off and build a stripped down copy of this www.hammarhead.com it floats my boat anyway. I want something I can just jump on with a pisspot helmet jeans and leather jacket and blat round the lanes on. The fazer will fulfill my need for speed.  :lol

When you say full work over I take it you have to send the forks to ktec to get them done? I would prefer a DIY fix as I use the bike nearly every day. How much does it cost and what is involved? Thanks for reply bud no one else seems to want to talk to me :(

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Best fix for gen1 forks
« on: 24 June 2012, 07:59:16 pm »
Hi all!
I need to improve my front forks. Its now got 30k miles and I'm about to give it a make over. I've seen the piston kit on k-teck website anyone tried them? What make type of springs has anyone used?  I've got an r6 shock fitted from devilsyam which is better than stock but I must admit not as good as I was expecting after reading comments on the forum. No disrespect to Devilsyam top bloke and the shock was mint and worth the money as a budjet replacement.
Any way I really want to find the best way to improve the standard forks. Or is an R1 fork replacement really worth the money or just a way  to "bling" up the gen1 ;)
Also I'm still on original wheel bearings had the bike from new. When you spin the wheels I can't feel any notchiness put am wondering how much longer I should go before replacing them. There is slight play in the suspension linkage which I will do. Will use genuine yam parts unless anyone can suggest a cheaper alternative of the same quality .

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / fazer bearing change
« on: 20 January 2012, 08:14:23 pm »
Greetings
My gen 1 is coming up to 28000miles. I'm about to treat her to a new rear shock thinking about  a nitron road shock at £354. Anyone tried one? Thought about r6 shock but not keen on buying 2nd hand shock. What sort of mileage should i change wheel bearings. They feel ok when wheels out of bike no "notchyness" (is that a word?)  :\  but off to scotland in May from somerset so think I will do them anyway. Also some play in rear linkage bearrings so will do those as well. Are there any other suppliers other than yamaha for linkage bearings?? I've found wheel bearing kits on wemoto but not linkage bearings. May do headrace while I'm at it. Any tips would be helpful. Apart from let someone else do it. I never take the easy option  :'( DIY is best

hi mikdel
I too love the Irish scene haven't been over for the last few years. Went over to Skerries '03 ' 04 and Tandragee '05. The group of mates I went with started to do europe alps trips which were out of my price range so haven't been over since. Want to do Southern 100 but not sure if it will happen this year. What races have you been to?? I'm sure you'll agree once you've seen a real road race track racing seems rather tame. :z . I know hes a bit of a Marmite bloke (love or hate it) but I would love to see Guy Martin win a TT.

A mate of mine recons the Irish racing won't be around much longer on health and safety grounds. I hope he's wrong .I've been to two races where riders have paid the ultimate price one travelling marshal had a seizure on a sighting lap the other was a racer at the Tandragee. It makes you stop and think. But then I try to imagine the buzz they must get riding so close to the edge. We rode the Skerries "track" before race day I took Gillies leap at around 90. The litre bikes are speed trapped at 140+ on the back wheel down that section. We need the speed and the danger be it as the 1% who have the balls and ability to ride supersports bikes to the limit on country lanes or the 99% sat in the hedges watching in awe. Long may it continue ;)
