Chain question

I've just discovered that after being sat for a month my chain has developed 3 seized links 😓 I've worked them lose but it's time for a replacement anyway

So I was just wondering if anyone has noticed the difference between the VX Heavy Duty and the ZVM-X Super heavy duty DID chains? And if the latter is worth the extra £50??

Also is the recommended set up still DID chain, Renthal Rear and generic front sprocket? I'm thinking of getting the JT 'silent' sprocket this time just to see if theres much of a difference

My understanding is that DID ZVM was OE spec for the gen1 thou.
I fitted ZVM and renthal sprockets.  Replaced the front sprocket after about 15,000 miles.

ZVM-X is made of higher spec material, they claim 40% over VX.  In my opinion on a Fazer600 or 1000 VX is plenty save the £50.

JT all the way, their cushioned front works very well.

I'll check what chain I have at the minute then I'll replace it with the same 👍Will stick with a renthal rear (I like the gold) and I'll go with the silent JT front sprocket, hopefully I'll notice the difference.

Well turns out I haven't got a clue what chain is on it? All I can find is DID 50VA8.... which after a google search just seems to refer to a linking rivet... but I had that written on all of the 5 links that I cleaned and read 🤔

I had a search on Fowlers, not knowing your bike year I chose 2007. The chain for that would be DID50VA8-122LL. From an American site it reckoned the DID50VA8 denotes a genuine Yamaha part. It seems your chain is a 530, personally I'd go for the ZVM-X.

Well you guessed correctly Robbo.... it is indeed a 2007 👍 haha
And I did see a few references to it being the genuine Yamaha part so could that mean it might be the original chain 🤔 the bike has only covered 14,000 miles so wouldn't be out of the realms of possibility although more or less every part of this bike is aftermarket but I always found it odd that the last owner put a gold sprocket on but a standard silver chain instead of the gold one 🤷‍♂️

Haha it's also had 5 tyres, 8 oil changes, 2 air filters, 3 sets of discs and 4 or 5 sets of pads since I bought it at 6500 miles 😅 it's a spoilt little bitch

No it's got a riveted link in as far as I can tell

I also brought my C&S set from biket tourque racing via their ebay outlet. It came with a chain brush and tin of lube but I asked if I could have an extra rivit link instead of the tin of lube, just incase O over tightened - or otherwise messed up doing the link.I also treated the bike to some shiny stainless nuts ---mmmmmm

If anyone else with a Gen2 if after some but want function over form then this genuine set is going on ebay at an absolute steal of a price. I'm almost tempted myself... but I'm shallow and like the prettier stuff too much 🤣🤣

Why would you not?  That should be OE spec ZVM chain.  You just need to pop the swing arm off the fit it.

Well for a start that's too much hassle for my liking, so much easier just riveting a link on Haha and secondly because I have a colour scheme going on so I want a gold chain and a black rear sprocket 💅 🤪

Afam rear sprockets come in black. That and a gold chain is a good look. That's why I went for that.
