Suggested Rides - Shropshire / Wales

I'm going to be based near Craven Arms in Shropshire for 2 nights at the end of the month and was hoping for some ideas for routes that would take in good roads and scenery in the Shropshire / Wales vicinity, any and all suggestions welcome.

Hi Pie,
Church Stretton to Asterton (Longmynd) via Burway Road/ Bur Way and the Port Way is single track and very scenic.  Google it to research afore ye go. Takes you past the Midland Gliding club which on a good day makes for interesting viewing along with the nutters who throw themselves off the steep hill nearby on those big flying upside down hammocks.
Not a scratching route by any means, but very worthy of a visit certainly. 
Before you start the run, it's worth calling into Carding mill Valley park.  A dead end and quite touristy with facilities, but is once again seen from atop of Bur Way when you're riding toward Asterton from Church Stretton.
Once you get to Asterton down the steep hill from the Longmynd, make your own route up back home.  Mine usually involves back up north toward Oswestry, Ellesmere and Whitchurch, but that's going away from your base at Craven arms.

I am just down the road 10 miles,, loads of good small A roads around,,one up to Iron Bridge, one through CLun to Knighton, very twisty stuff everywhere. I am away 25th 26th July but any other day ,evenings give me a call for a ride out.SLim

Dekko is 'Scouse' for 'having a look' and not at all edible.
Though there is a café within Carding Mill valley (National Trust) which was quite nice for a bit of scran.

I wasn't expecting to learn to speak foreign on this trip, at least not this side of Wales, hope the old trick of speaking very loudly and slowly with lots of gestures will get us by.

I think it's the A489 from Newtown to the A49 nr. Craven Arms that I like. If I'm thinking the right road, it's a cracker.

Café at Crossgates welcomes bikes. If you want longer, more or less anywhere west of that loop well worth a look; Rhayader, Elan valley etc. A44 out to Aberystwyth is brilliant, fishies and chippies at the seaside

Hi Nick,,i have offered to take a day off work and be a guide,,suggested the route I took with Dazza,,,Dazza are you there ?stand on a box then I can see you

Up to Knighton,Penybont,Crossgates coffee cake,Newtown via the recently cut hedge(hmmm Nick ) ,then onto a44 continue to Aberystwth coffee,meet Noggy ,,chips down at Abeaeron,,back through Tregaron to Llandovery,,more coffee,cakes,Builth A44 back to Leominster,,a bloody amazing couple of hundred miles.

Anyone else want a day off ??????

Down the A49 from the arms turn left at Wofferton and head on the A456 toward Tenbury Wells, keep going on the A456 to Kiddeminster, then A442 to Bridgenorth > A458 toward Morville > B4368 back toward the Arms.......all cracking roads if the weathers good.

Thanks guys, really looking forward to a day out with Slim on the Tuesday (30th June) we've still got the Monday afternoon / evening & Wednesday morning to take in some more riding & scenery, so some of the shorter routes look ideal. Just hoping the weather holds out for us.

Well a day from heaven fell on us today, what a beauty,, our tyres were glued to the hot tarmac, many tea,water ,chip stops along the way.

A great group of four riders weaving their way through the Welsh tree lined valleys and over rolling mountains with wonderous views collecting flies as we thundered on our way.

I met mr Pieeater, a very nice chap and he sure can handle the blue gen1, I think he enjoyed the roads

also along came his mate on a yam 1700 custom,complete with R1 forks and other mods,,hell he had to hang on,,not quite keeping up with us but he gave his tyres hell,,haha,they got hot, no chicken strips on any of them bikes now

You bastids........i woulda been on my day off but agreed to overtime meaning i didnt come off shift til 0700 this morning......i was sat around the house in just my undercrackers......28 degrees outside and 26 inside in the shade ffs......i shoulda be out on the bike for sure but oh well you win some you lose some.......looks like yous had a good time and imo 4 bikes is probably the perfect number for a decent hoot

Argh, god damnit Nick... I love the Lava Red colour scheme on the gen 1 and now it is plastered all over the forums where I have to stare at it - it's eating in to my productivity haha
