This is the bike that the 1987 500cc GP champion, Wayne Gardner rode in the production race of 1982

So if you're a collector, maybe you'd be willing to pay the £22,500 asking price.

They put the comma in the wrong place should have been £2,299.90  It's nice but the mileage doesn't warrant price.

I bet it still sells for that or thereabouts. Some early Z1's are up to £30,000 now :eek

Traders will always try and push the price of rare and collectable bikes.  My favourite phrases on e-bay “future classic” and “can only go up in value”.

Another thing I think many dealers will do.  If they get hold of a rare or iconic bike, they’ll stick it in the showroom to add interest and draw punters in.  They may have no intention of selling it, it might be the boss’s pride and joy, but hey why not stick a stupid price tag on it, one, just to make folks go ooooooh and generate conversation, and two, you never know somebody might make a silly offer.

As for bike prices.  Well never mind bike prices – lets just say asset prices.
Or put another way, try getting a quote for a mortgage right now – I’ll bet it’s hard work.

Asset prices will be going down.
Good time to buy a new bike – doh!

Oh that reminds me, it’s time VNA updated his profile.  How do I change GP Hero to BMW Wank?

I assumed they were referring to the make of bike that he rode not the specific bike, in the same way you would refer to a 916 being the bike that Foggy rode. I would have expected his actual bike to be in a private collection somewhere.

Wayne Gardner and Wayne Clarke rode a CBR1100R and won the Castrol Six Hour Australian Prod race in 82. Whether it's this bike as they claim who knows.

I think you could only expect this kind of money for an NR750 you know that one with the oval 8valve pistons ? really trick those were, they were a fuckin' fortune when they built 'em so I can't imagine what they'd be going for now! but that 1100's way overpriced IMO as nice as it is.

NRs are apparently fetching £100k +. I think there are an awful lot of optimistic chancers out there, who stick an outrageous price tag on anything approaching old, hoping that some rose tinted bespectacled fool with more money than sense will eventually come along and buy the thing. There are £50k RC30s on eBay that have been on there months. When they're asking £2k for 400 superdream you know the world going mad

How about an unregistered RC30  - 80 grand.  Again it's something for the showroom that they ain't really that interested in selling.

Or over 40K for a sandcast CB750 - https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Honda-CB-750-K0-SANDCAST-1969-G-VIN-NUMBER-750/283801601601?hash=item4213e4c641:g:jbcAAOSwAxtdgOwy

Oh, I'd love a Yamaha R7, but not at 32K even if it does have the factory race kit - https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/YAMAHA-R7-YZR-R7-SUPER-SPORTS/264680656465?hash=item3da0324e51:g:IckAAOSwsZlefZyo

To be honest I'd take an R1 over an R7 all day long, just never saw what all the hubbub was with them 🤷‍♂️

Because it's not built for the road as such only 500 were made. It was a homologation bike to allow it to be used in WSBK and endurance races at the time, all bikes had to be based on a road bike with a minimum of 200 units I think and it was a 750.  Which at the time was the limit for 4 cylinder bikes, twins could be 1000 and that was what saved and relaunched Ducati.  The R7 in road trim was 100 odd bhp, Yam produced two race kits, depending on the depth of your pockets 1st was £700 ish 130 odd bhp, 2nd £10000 ish 160 odd bhp if my memory serves me.

A very trick and rare bike, bloody  8) ;) :D

Absolutely.  Yeah it’s rare as foc.  But seriously, forget for a second how rare it is.  They just got the detailing spot on, the upgraded components, combined with the finish and R7 paint job, along with the headlamps, race tank etc – and all beautifully understated.

For me, seriously, it’s maybe the best looking modern sportsbike.  20 years on it looks as good as it did the day it was born.
