I was thinking of removing it completely and blocking off the hole.Would the error message still appear on the rev counter?

Hi and welcome to the forums.

The recommendation will always be to try to get the EXUP valve working rather than ditching it as it is an integral design to the bikes performance characteristics. If you are getting the 7K tachometer code this could be as simple as the cables needing adjustment, or the valve may be seized. The guide Panthor posted would be your first port of call to strip the valve assembly down and check what the issue may be.

To answer your question you can remove the valve and blank the hole off and this will resolve the 7K code, but you will be left with a weaker low end and a flat spot around 5K.

I'm with PieEater on this.
Also check cables are free in sleeves (oil). You can make new ones yourself easily and cheaply, appro £12. Ask me if you need info on cables

there's plenty of us on this site who have sorted the exup, from being totally shot to pieces and a total rebuild,to just a regrease...my experience was replacement and retap the holes..but take your time and even if it's totally shot it's well worth doing :) as the difference at lower end revs is really

noticeable..

The valve is seized and I am worried that it might break trying to remove it.Does any other model,ie the R1, use the same Valve?

If the valve is seized and you are fed up with the 7K code you can temporarily disconnect the cables at the EXUP end as the servo will then be able to operate properly and will not generate the fault code, but you definitely should attempt to get it working again so you can appreciate the bike as it's meant to be.

In answer to your question about alternative valves I did a quick search and found these threads;

I guess temporarily you could blank off the valve housing and leave the assembly in some paraffin or repeatedly apply penetrating fluid to attempt to free it up. Be aware that it is quite easy to bend the valve which can cause it to stick as it rotates, you can straighten it out but this is a bit of trial and error.

If I do remove the valve do I have to fit one of those exup valve eliminator plug in black Boxes advertised on Ebay?

No that's for a GEN2 Fazer where the EXUP is purely to pass noise / emissions testing rather than for performance. Again you really should get the EXUP working rather than eliminate it as the bike is much better with it functioning properly.

In which case I guess they are designed for elimination of the servo - maybe you could link to the page. However if the servo is functioning properly you don't need anything to bypass it, the 7K error is generated if the servo is prevented from operating within its expected range i.e. if the cables are not adjusted properly or if the valve is stuck. If you remove the valve then the servo is doing nothing and it will happily continue to report that it is operating correctly as nothing is interfering with it turning as expected.

WD-40 isn't the best penetrating fluid out there.  You would be better off with a dedicated type like Plusgas or similar. :)

This was mine on the fzs. Needed new pulley wheel, cable bracket and new inner cables.
Re tap hole after to clean threads. There not blind holes so easy.

Nice pics on here.  https://www.tapatalk.com/groups/fazer1000/exup-valve-maintenance-t1524.html#.WOenyoWcHIU

Ive never had the EXUP valve working since I've had my Fazer, about 3 years now. I don't know any different and I love it. Sure its a bit wooly low down but as long as you don't expect huge grunt below 3K its ok. The 7K speedo warning get a bit irritating, but ive learned to live with it. Wheelies are very easy off the throttle, just wind it on and up she comes, but thats because the power comes in steeper due to the having less power at the bottom end. So don't be frightened of just sticking a bolt through the EXUP plate and re fitting the exhaust if you want to ride it while you get the EXUP bits together.

Saying all that, i'm waiting for my new cables to arrive and I will be fitting my bike with the (mostly new) EXUP valve assembly, I just hope I can tell the difference once its done. Hopefully they will arrive before the weekend and I can report back on my thoughts before Monday.

My cables have arrived. Will report back on Monday or before if I can.

Ahhh, a weekend of therapy, just what I need after the week I've had.

Holy thread revival!!

Hey all. Well my lemon of a bike with stuck exup saga continues. Not swapped the headers yet to the ones with working valve yet.

For now I’ve taken the siezed valve that local shop bent and damaged trying to remove it and just broken the valve off as it was then damaged and still stuck solid.

So with it blanked as per some the previous posts I think bike rides fine. Not laggy or fluffy at the bottom Imo still picks up well. Yes it’s not as torquey at the bottom as it was before with valve on closed position. But if you like to rev the bike and hold gears you won’t notice or mind. My bike is stock carbs has ignition advancer and there isn’t the dead spot at 5k others have meantioned.

If you like to Short shift everywhere you will notice the difference in how rapidly you make prpgress buy 2up it’s still fine and smooth even low revs and doesn’t stutter. So for those who get in a pinch with stuck valve and use bike daily it’s viable and not at all bad to ride,

Yes I know with a working valve I will get the best of both worlds but for now it’s Much better than was as I’m bit of a Rev head I found it disappointing before. I have the parts to sort the exup once I have enough time to do it.
